Abstract

This study aims to determine the condition of the regional language and culture in North Sumatra with the inclusion of foreign cultures which are now very easy to access. In addition, this research also aims to see the condition of the shift in regional languages among the people in North Sumatra. Furthermore, it will be seen about the role of the community in overcoming these problems. This research was conducted in the province of North Sumatra using a quantitative-qualitative descriptive method. And this data collection technique was carried out by means of observation, questionnaires, and also interviews which were equipped with documentation and also research instruments consisting of recording and recording. The results of the study will show the conditions of language shift that exist in the province of North Sumatra. The use of language starts from the family environment and also in educational settings such as schools and also in the community environment amid the onslaught of foreign cultures that entered North Sumatra. From this research it is hoped that it can be an option to overcome the influx of foreign cultures and also their influence on regional languages in North Sumatra.

Abstract

Language is a communication tool that has a function to create experiences in terms of sounds and symbols in constructing words. And in every region there are languages spoken by the community. Especially in the province of North Sumatra, Indonesia. This language has its own characteristics which of course are influenced by the culture and environment in the area as well as the local wisdom that surrounds it. This study aims to examine the metafunctions as well as the social context in regional languages in North Sumatra province. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with interview and observation techniques. The results of the research show that there is a metafunction in the regional language of North Sumatra which influences this side of the language. In addition, the social context has an important role in shaping the meaning and function of language. Social context includes cultural, social, and situational contexts. In the cultural context, the regional language of North Sumatra is used as a presentation of beliefs, values and ideology in society. In a social context, the regional language of North Sumatra is used to maintain the relationship between speaker and listener. In a situational context, the regional language of North Sumatra is used to convey messages or information effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the communication strategies carried out by the government both at the central and regional levels and related agencies in order to preserve culture, traditions and also the local wisdom in North Sumatra. And this research is to look at the obstacles experienced in implementing communication strategies in order to preserve the unique Malay culture and also the regional culture in North Sumatra . The research subjects are related agencies and also the community who have a role in preserving culture in North Sumatra as well as traditional and cultural institutions and organizations that have this connection . Data collection techniques from this study used observation methods and in-depth interviews with informants or research respondents and used literature or documents that support the research. Data processing used is a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of the descriptive analysis of the research show that the communication strategy used is quite effective or is it just repetition as before both in conveying messages, using methods, and also the role of the media. Then the obstacles that occur and don't run as they should, so that programs in preservation can be hampered and also other things that can make the strategy not run smoothly . Preservation methods such as the Redundancy and Persuasive methods in the form of approaches and establishing cooperative relationships with related parties can facilitate the communication process.

Abstract

This research was conducted to produce a teaching chart on art and culture which contains local content as the implementation of K13 for all schools in North Sumatra. This research was also conducted to reveal the side of cultural validation as well as the practicalization and effectiveness of arts and cultural education curricula that have local content such as Malay and Batak culture. The arts and culture education curriculum is one of the concerns of local government agencies to create validation in the cultural sector. There are several achievements in terms of learning validation which are in the valid and also practical categories. This of course shows the ability of users' interest, especially school children, in the teaching and learning process in the art and cultural education category. This research was conducted to improve the skills and attitudes of students regarding learning in the arts and culture category and to improve their abilities in the local cultural sector.
