Abstract

STH infection is an infection transmitted by intestinal nematodes through the soil. Flower farmers are one of the most vulnerable jobs infected with STH eggs because this work is directly related to the soil. Most of the work as flower farmers is in the Bandungan area because the area is suitable for flower plantations. The purpose of study to describe Soil Transmitted Helminths infection on flower farmers in Jetis Village, Bandungan Subdistrict, Semarang. This study was descriptive observational (non-experimental) research using cross sectional approach. Samples studied were 23 respondents. Feces examination conducted on 23 samples obtained 1 sample (4,3%) infected STH eggs of hookworm species and 22 samples (95,7%) not infected STH eggs. Only 1 flower farmer (4,3%) from 23 flower farmers in Jetis Village, Bandungan Sub-district was infected by Soil Transmitted Helminths egg.

Abstract

Fresh vegetables can be a source of transmission of worm infections to humans. The behavior of washing fresh vegetables that are not good by housewives and sellers of fresh vegetables in food stalls becomes large in transmitting worm infections if there are worm eggs that are still attached to fresh vegetables. The most common contamination found in fresh vegetables were eggs of the intestinal nematode Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) as well as non-STH and trematodes. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sanitation hygiene and contamination of non-STH worm eggs in fresh vegetables at food stalls in Semarang City. This type of research is an observational study with a cross sectional approach. Based on the results of laboratory tests, from a total of 165 samples examined, eggs of non-STH worms with species of Fasciola sp and Toxocara sp were found in 45 food stalls selling fresh vegetables. Based on bivariate analysis, there was no significant relationship between personal hygiene (p = 0.071) and environmental sanitation (p = 0.334) on contamination of non-STH worm eggs in fresh vegetables in food stalls in Pedurungan District, Semarang.

Abstract

Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) infection is still a health problem in Indonesia. This infection is caused by intestinal nematodes which in its transmission require soil media. Vegetables can be a medium of transmission of STH. STH transmission occurs when the soil is contaminated with STH worm eggs and the worm eggs stick to vegetables. In addition, STH contamination can occur in traditional markets with poor sanitation such as humid rooms, floors with lots of puddles, muddy water, and improper placement of waste. The aim of the study was to describe the contamination of Soil Transmitted Helminths on Scallion (Allium fistulosum L.). This research is a descriptive research, the examination of worm eggs is done by indirect method with sedimentation technique. The research sample was taken from 25 traders. Leeks contaminated with STH as many as 15 (60%) samples from 25 traders. The type of STH found was hookworm rhabditiform larvae. There is STH contamination in leeks sold at the Bangetayu market, Semarang City. To avoid the risk of being infected with STH, people are expected to consume vegetables that have been cooked.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the largest contributor to death in the world. The prevalence of NCDs tends to increase. Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases with the largest proportion in Semarang. High cholesterol levels will accumulate in  the arteries, causing the arteries to stiffen, so the heart tries hard to pump blood through these blood vessels, and can cause blood pressure to rise (hypertension). Some risk factors that can increase blood pressure, such as high salt intake, overweight or obesity, alcohol consumption, lack of physical activity, stress and smoking. Lack of physical activity can increase cholesterol levels in the body which is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (coroner's heart disease dan stroke). Age affects the occurrence of hypertension. With age the risk of developing hypertension is greater. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between cholesterol and blood pressure in adults in Bangetayu, Semarang City. This study uses a cross-sectional approach. Research samples are in the community of  Bangetayu Kota Semarang. Research Tools and Materials include lanceolate, alcohol swab, cholesterol strips, digital sphygmomanometers, POCT cholesterol and capillary blood.  Research data obtained from the results of checking cholesterol levels and blood pressure. The results of this study were processed using SPSS 20 software with data analysis using Chi Square (α=5%) and presented descriptively about the relationship of cholesterol levels with blood pressure in adults. The results of statistical analysis show a p-value > 0.05 which means that there is no significant relationship between variables and vice versa. The results showed that there was no relationship between blood pressure and cholesterol.

Abstract

Blood donation is the process of taking a portion of blood from a healthy person then giving it to the person who needs blood. Hemoglobin level examination is one of the donor selection checks to find out whether someone is successful or not to donate blood. A person can donate blood if the hemoglobin level shows a result of 12.5 g / dL – 17 g / dL. A person's hemoglobin level can be influenced by age, because as we get older many organ functions that do not work optimally so that they experience a decrease in Hb levels. The purpose of this study was to measure hemoglobin levels in prospective donors aged more than 46 years at UDD PMI Jepara Regency. This type of research uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional descriptive study research model taken from the SIMDONDAR database. The population in this study is all potential donors at UDD PMI Jepara Regency in December 2023-January 2024. The data obtained were analyzed univariately. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the majority of prospective donors showed normal hemoglobin levels as many as 480 prospective donors (94.86%), and more prospective donors who had blood type O (+) as many as 187 prospective donors (36.96%), most prospective donors were male as many as 342 prospective donors (67.59%), and the majority of prospective donors were declared to have passed the donor selection as many as 480 prospective donors (94.86%). The impact of the research results obtained by UDD PMI Jepara Regency is that officers are aware of the importance of socializing to the community how important it is to maintain hemoglobin levels before donating blood and recruiting donors from various ages of prospective donors in the Jepara Regency area.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is still one of the infectious diseases with the highest mortality rate in the world. WHO stated that Indonesia is the third country in the world with the most TB cases. Semarang is the third province in Indonesia with the highest TB cases. Although the mortality rate is high, in reality TB can be treated and prevented. Anti-TB drugs as TB treatment agents can cause side effects, one of which is a decrease in the number of platelets. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the number of platelets in TB patients before starting treatment and after one month of treatment with Anti-TB drugs. The study population was new tuberculosis patients. The study sample was taken according to the established criteria and obtained as many as 24 people, who were examined twice, namely before treatment and after 1 month of treatment. The results of this study stated that the average number of platelets before starting TB treatment was 340.875 cells/μL and after one month of treatment with Anti-TB drugs was 281.958 cells/μL. The Wilcoxon test showed a P value = 0.009. There was a significant difference in the number of platelets before starting TB treatment and after one month of treatment with Anti-TB drugs. TB treatment can affect blood conditions, including platelets. Thus, patients and their families are expected to better  understand the importance of carrying out routine checks and not stopping treatment without medical consultation.

Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is a widespread zoonotic disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii (T.gondii). Blood and blood products are possible routes of transmission of T. gondii, especially in patients who have undergone multiple transfusions. The aim of this study is to determine the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in female donors using blood serum which is analyzed serologically to detect ImmunoglobulinG (IgG) using the Enzyme-Linked Fluorescent Assay (ELFA) method, as well as the relationship between risk factors for toxoplasmosis, such as keeping cats, receiving blood transfusions, eating undercooked meat and eating raw vegetables. This research is an analytic observational study using a cross-sectional study design. The sample taken is female donor candidates who are willing to participate during the study period, from March to September 2023, and have met the inclusion criteria to become research subjects by explaining the purpose and procedure of the study and the consent letter signed by each research subject before blood samples were taken and filling out the research questionnaire. 177 blood serum samples of female donors were collected from blood donor candidates using consecutive sampling method and a questionnaire to obtain risk factor data that influence the incidence of toxoplasmosis. The results showed that the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in the blood of female donor at Indonesian Red Cross Blood Donor Unit (UDD PMI) Semarang Regency, Central Java Province was 26.6%. In this study the risk factors that influence the incidence of toxoplasmosis are consuming raw vegetables with 5.835 times more risk than women who do not consume raw vegetables, while other factors such as keeping cats, receiving blood transfusions, and eating undercooked meat, have no significant effect. The seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in female donors at UDD PMI of Semarang Regency is quite high due to the habit of eating raw vegetables or fresh vegetables with a very high transmission potential.
