Abstract

Bullying case was one of the problems conducted in school that became an international concern. Bullying occurrence in school was not limited to regular school but also in boarding school, particularly in islamic boarding school; thus, this phenomenon had a higher chance to occur in boarding school due to seniority. It was also found that the bullies were previously had the experiences as the victims. According to this phenomenon, a qualitative study was held to formulate the substantial theory about the psychological dynamics of the victim becoming bullies, particularly in islamic boarding school context. This study conducted the systematic grounded theory. The data was collected through in-depth interviews and observations toward nine main participants, and some supported participants and analyzed with constant comparative technique. The finding of this study was The Dynamic of Bullying: The Victims Become Bullies, which contained six phases: 1) Become the victims, 2) Aggrieved phase, 3) Frustration phase, 4) Maladaptive coping phase, 5) Trial phase, 6) Become the bullies. This dynamic explained the psychological dynamics in the victims who become bullies. Some interesting findings found in the fourth phase, the maladaptive coping phase, in which the victims decide whether to be adaptive or maladaptive to bullying activity. The alternate in the adaptation phase indicated that the shifting role of victims to bullies could be prevented. Psychological support programs, both preventive and curative way, could be beneficial to prevent the possibility of the victim becoming bullies. The preventive program could prevent the victims from becoming bullies, and the curative program could help the victim heal the trauma of bullying.

Abstract

The growth of the hotel business is increasing, along with the development of tourism. This condition encourages hoteliers to compete to advance their business with a variety of service innovation processes. Therefore, it is essential to know and identify the innovative behavior of hospitality employees. This study aims to develop innovative employee behavior measurement tools. We used a quantitative study involving 143 sales marketing employees in hospitality as respondents. The sample selection uses a random sampling technique. The development of innovative behavioral questionnaires was revealed through three dimensions, namely the idea generation dimension, idea championing, and idea implementation. Data analysis used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with the help of Amos 22 software. The results of the study revealed that the innovative behavior measurement model met the goodness of fit criteria. These findings indicate that innovative behavior can be measured by the dimensions of idea generation, idea championing, and idea implementation. The results of this study also have implications for several hospitality practitioners to evaluate the innovative behavior of hospitality employees. Keywords: innovative behavior, scale adaptation, validity, Confirmatory Factor Analysis

Abstract

The development and growth of the hotel business in Indonesia are increasingly rapid, along with the development of the tourism industry. One of the competencies that are needed in facing business competition is innovative competency. Although there have been many studies discussing the importance of mastering innovative competencies, there are still limited instruments for measuring the innovative competencies of hospitality employees. The purpose of this study is to develop an innovative competency measurement instrument for hospitality employees. The development of an innovation competency instrument for hotel marketing employees consists of three indicators, namely individual, interpersonal, and social network conditions. Data collection involved 143 hospitality marketing employees. Data analysis to test the validity of this innovative competency questionnaire uses the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The study results revealed that the questionnaire was valid with the following criteria: RMSEA 0.094 (moderate), RMR = 0.037 (fit), Comparative Fit Index (CFI) = 0.901 (fit), Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI) = 0.891 (moderate), and NFI = 0.837 (moderate). These results indicate that an indication of a good fit or an innovative competency construct model in this study is declared fit so that it can be used to identify the innovative competencies of Sales Marketing employees in hospitality. Keywords: innovative; interpersonal; social network; instrument validity.

Abstract

The current study aims to explain how psychological capital influences employee voice in the Indonesian context. The conservation resources framework can provide an explanation of how personal resources, namely psychological capital (psycap) have an impact on work behavior (employee voice). This study involved 182 participants from various companies. Questionnaires were circulated via an instant messaging application, several social media platforms, and paper-based. Based on a simple regression analysis, it is proven that psychological capital is significantly related to employee voice. Employees can choose to speak up when they are motivated by a pro-social motive that brings to constructive changes to themselves and the organizations. Psycap interacting simultaneously produces different manifestations, which can make individuals obtain new resources. By acquiring these additional resources, individuals are ready to meet the demands of work and achieve their work goals, by providing a voice.

Abstract

One of human resources exerting an influence on the process of quality development in higher education institutions is lecturer. Lecturers play a role in realizing the purpose of national education (enhancing intellectual capacity of the life of nation, and developing quality of good and civilized Indonesian people). They can give contribution to higher education institutions if they make effective efforts and act in an appropriate manner (not only in terms of the quantity of efforts, but also the direction of the efforts), maintain good attitudes, attempt or intend to work, are supported by the institution for the sake of their success of performance. For that reason, it is important for lecturers to recognize their responsibility and performance, as well as to measure their efforts according to indicator of success. One way to improve organizational performance is by identifying the extent of lecturers’ work engagement. Several studies have examined such components of work engagement as self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience. The present research is intended to consider several psychological constructs related to self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience which influence work engagement by using mediator variable of perceived organizational support on lecturers of public higher education institutions in Surakarta. Samples include 393 lecturers of Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the application of Lisrel 8.70 program. The analysis results indicate that 1) the model is considered fit,2)   there is a significant influence of self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience on lecturers’ work engagement, and 3) perceived organization support presents as good mediator to connect the aforementioned variables.

Abstract

Safety performance is a performance concept which focuses on employee’s behavior in the context of work safety. Safety performance has been frequently studied in multiple industrial contexts. However, only a few of them aimed for middle scale industries. Previous studies on safety performance were usually conducted more on large scale industries, in which the outcome refers more on the safety performance focusing on work injury, work accident or unsafe behaviors. There are only limited numbers of studies on work behaviors, especially on middle scale industries. This research aimed to identify the opportunities and challenges on the application of safety performance in relations to the work behaviors in the middle scale industries through a library study. Literature search were conducted by online means from four databases: ProQuest e-journal, ScienceDirect e-journals, Sage e-journals, and emerald insight e-journals. The keywords used in the search were (“safety performance” or “safety behavior”), (“medium industries” or “small and medium enterprise” or “SME”), (“safety in medium industries” or “safety in SME”), and (“safety performance in medium industries” or ”safety performance in SME”). There were 33 journals found which were later mapped based on the inclusion or exclusion criteria. Results showed that the flexibility of middle scale industries, collectivistic culture and the role of leaders are the potential supporting factors in the application of safety performance in middle scale industries. On the other hand, factors such as human resources, economy, technology, the organization of middle scale industry and the government regulations are the potential inhibiting factors in the application of safety performance in middle scale industries. Keywords: safety performance, middle scale industry, work safety

Abstract

Life satisfaction plays important role in employees’ work performance and is related to the internal factors of religiosity, perceived organizational support, and meaningful work. This research aims to investigate the influence of religiosity and perceived organizational support on life satisfaction through meaningful work as a mediator for 263 respondents from 118 organizations in Indonesia. This research found that a significant number of participants (71.86%) were satisfied with their life. The findings show that religiosity and perceived organizational support enhance their life satisfaction such that meaningful work is a partial mediator for these relationships. Organization leaders should maintain employees’ life satisfaction through religious activities and provide them with organizational support.
