Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of teaching technique called information transfer technique in teaching listening comprehension on dialogue to Year-7 students of SMP Negeri 2 Mempawah Hilir in Academic Year 2012/2013. It was a pre-experimental study in one group pretest posttest design. The data were collected by using audio file with the written test in form of table, total of the test items were 8 and then analyzed by using ES (Effect Size) formula. The sample was VIIA class that consisted of 36 students. The finding showed that the effect size of treatment was 0.89 (ES > 0.80) and categorized as high with the mean score of the students’ 74.65. This mean score after the teaching (post-test) increased if compared with the mean score before the teaching (pre-test) 61.45. The difference score between pre-test and post-test was 13.20. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki keefektifan dari penggunaan teknik pengajaran yang disebut Information Transfer, dalam pemahaman menyimak dialog terhadap siswa-siswi kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Mempawah Hilir tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Penelitian ini menggunakan pre-eksperimen studi dengan disain satu grup pre-test post-test. Data penelitian didapatkan dengan menggunakan audio file besertakan tes tertulis dalam bentuk tabel, dengan jumlah soal 8 dan kemudian dianalisa dengan menggunakan rumus ES (tingkat efektifitas). Sampel penelitian diambil dari 1 kelas (VIIA) yang terdiri dari 36 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ukuran keefektifan dari perlakuan adalah 0.89 (ES>0.80) dan dikategorikan tinggi dengan nilai rata-rata siswa 74.65. Nilai rata-rata setelah pengajaran (post-test) tersebut menunjukkan perubahan yang meningkat jika dibandingkan dengan nilai rata-rata siswa sebelum pengajaran (pre-test) 61.45. Perbedaan nilai yang ditunjukkan antara nilai pre-test dan post-test adalah 13.20. Kata kunci: Transfer Informasi, Pemahaman Menyimak.

Abstract

AbstractThis research purpose is to investigate the effect size of teaching speaking narrative monologue by using shrinking story strategy at the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 06 Pontianak. The method that is used in this research is pre-experimental method that applies pre-test and post-test to measure the effect size (ES) of the treatment. The instrument of this research are pre-test and post-test. Both pre-test and pre-test measure students’ speaking narrative monologue performance. The pre-test was applied before the treatment was given. Meanwhile the post-test was applied after the treatment given. The different score of pre-test and post-test are respectively 2.10 and 2.87. The result shows that the effect size of teaching speaking narrative monologue by using shrinking story strategy is high because the Effect Size (ES) is > 0.5. The shrinking story strategy is higly effective to teach speaking narrative monologue to the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 06 Pontianak. This research result can be applied to teach speaking narrative monologue concerns to standard competence 4. Basic competence of KTSP point 4.2. Expressing meaning in simple monologue speaking with spoken language accurately in daily context in form of recount, narrative and procedure. Keyword: Pre-Experimental, Speaking, Teaching, Shrinking Story

Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meneliti hubungan antara nilai syntax dengan nilai menulis siswa semester lima program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, program regular B, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan tahun akademik 2013/2014. Untuk mencapai tujuan ini, peneliti menggunakan studi korelasi sebagai metode penelitiannya. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa semester lima program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, regular B, kelas A dan kelas B, yang terdiri dari 50 siswa. Sampel penelitian ini diambil dari kedua kelas A dan kelas B, terdiri dari 50 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan menggunakan teknik dokumentari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada korelasi antara nilai syntax dan nilai menulis siswa. Hal ini berdasarkan penghitungan nilai koefisien korelasi Pearson r sebesar 0.236. Berdasarkan nilai tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa Null hypothesis diterima dan Alternative hypothesis ditolak.   Kata kunci: Korelasi, Nilai Syntax, Nilai Menulis Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate the correlation between the students’ syntax scores and students’ writing scores of the fifth semester students of English education study program, regular B Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Tanjungpura University in academic year 2013/2014. To achieve this goal, the researcher used correlational study as the method of this research. The population of this research was class A and class B of the fifth semester students of English education study program, regular B, that consist of 50 students. The sample of this research was taken from both class A and class B, consist of 50 students. The data of this research were collected by using documentary technique. The finding of this research showed that there is no correlation between students’ syntax scores and students’ writing scores. It is based on the calculation score of Pearson r correlation coefficient that is 0.236. Based on the score, the reseacher concluded that the Null hypothesis was accepted and Alternative hypothesis was rejected.   Keywords: Corelation, Syntax Scores, Writing Scores

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of teaching writing recount text by using Routine Grammatical Features Eliciting Homework and verbal imagery. It is a pre-experimental method with one group pretest post-test design. The sample is the tenth grade students numbering 30 students. The tool of data collecting in this research is pre-test given before a treatment and written post-test given after the treatment in the form of writing recount text. The data were analyzed by effect size formula. The result of data analysis showed that the effect size of teaching writing recount text by using Routine Grammatical Features Eliciting Homework and verbal imagery is high. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki keefektifan mengajar menulis teks recount dengan menggunakan Routine Grammatical Features Eliciting Homework dan verbal imagery. Metode yang digunakan adalah pre-experimental dengan dengan rancangan penelitian satu grup pre-test dan post-test. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas X C yang berjumlah 30 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan memberikan test menulis seagai pre-test sebelum diberikan perlakuan dan post-test setelah diberikan perlakuan dalam bentuk menulis teks recount. Data dianalisa dengan menggunakan rumus tingkat efektifitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mengajar menulis teks recount dengan menggunakan Routine Grammatical Features Eliciting Homework dan verbal imagery tingkat efektifitasnya adalah tinggi. Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti dan mendeskripsikan bagaimana siswa SMP menggunakan ketersediaan internet dalam menciptakan peluang untuk belajar bahasa Inggris dengan mandiri. Dalam upaya membuat penelitian ini benar-benar dapat dipercaya, peneliti menggunakan metode studi kasus dan menerapkan observasi langsung dan wawancara kepada 5 siswa SMP yaitu sebagai pengguna internet di area Sungai Raya Dalam, Kabupaten Kubu Raya, yang kemudian didukung dengan screen capture sebagai bukti konkret dari kegiatan siswa. Data menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang menggunakan internet untuk belajar adalah dalam jumlah yang sangat sedikit. Menariknya, para siswa tersebut memiliki pandangan yang positif terhadap internet dan menggunakannya sesuai kebutuhan belajar. Temuan data dari hasil wawancara menunjukkan bahwa para siswa telah menerapkan pembelejaran yang mandiri dalam 3 aspek penting: pengarahan diri, motivasi dan usaha dalam belajar bahasa inggris. Para siswa akhirnya dapat menciptakan kemandirian bejalar dan melakukan cara yang positif serta sesuai dengan mereka sebagai siswa SMP dalam melatih keterampilan utama dalam bahasa Inggris: mendengar, berbicara, membaca dan menulis serta pemerolehan kosakata. Keywords: Internet, belajar mandiri, pengguna internet.   Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate and describe how the students of Junior High School utilize the available internet to make the opportunity in independent English learning. In an attempt to make this research credible, the researcher used case study method and applied the direct observation and interview to 5 students of Junior High Schools namely internet users in area of Sungai Raya Dalam, Kubu Raya, which were then supported with screen captures as the concrete evidence of students’ activities. The data revealed that students who used the internet for learning was slightly in number. Interestingly, the students held the positive view towards the internet and used it properly for learning. The finding data of interview showed that the students applied their independent learning in three significant aspects: self-direction, motivation and efforts in learning English. Ultimately, the students have made independent learning and done the positive and appropriate ways for them as the Junior High School students in practicing the major skills of English learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing as well as vocabulary acquiring. Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to identify students’ difficulties in writing hortatory exposition text at high intermediate level in Gajahmada English course. The method used is a descriptive study. The sample of the study is 10 students at high intermediate level of Gajahmada English course. The tool of data collecting was a written test that the students wrote hortatory exposition text. The finding showed the average of students’ score is “60.2” which is categorize “Difficult”. In grammar, students difficulties in arranging the tense and the compound-complex sentences. In mechanic, students difficulties in spelling, punctuation and word choice. In vocabulary, students difficulties in using of personal noun, abstract noun, general noun, action verb, verb, adverb and adjectives. In content, students able wrote the text, but their difficulties on the relevant details among thesis, arguments and recommendation. Keywords: Identification, students’ difficulties, hortatory exposition Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi kesulitan siswa menulis teks hortatory exposition pada level high intermediate di bimbingan belajar Gajahmada. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif. Peserta penelitian adalah siswa bimbingan belajar Gajahmada level high intermediate, terdapat 10 peserta sebagai sampel. Alat mengumpulkan data yaitu sebuah tes tertulis, yakni siswa menulis teks hortatori exposisi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata nilai 60,2 dikategorikan “sulit”. Struktur bahasa, siswa kesulitan menyusun struktur kalimat dan penggunaan kalimat majemuk setara – bertingkat. Mekanisme penulisan, siswa kesulitan dalam ejaan, tanda baca, dan pilihan kata. Kosakata, siswa kesulitan menggunaan kata ganti orang, kata ganti abstrak, kata benda umum, kata kerja, kata keterangan, kata sifat. Untuk isi, siswa dapat menulis teks, tapi kesulitan pada relevansi antara ide pokok, pendapat, dan rekomendasi.   Kata kunci: Identifikasi, kesulitan siswa, hortatori exposisi

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this research is to describe the dominant external factors influencing students’ English learning achievements and to investigate how is the correlation of external factors toward students’ English learning achievements of eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Sungai Kakap in academic year 2013/2014. The researcher applied descriptive quantitative study using a correlation study in conducting this research. The data in this research were collected by using questionnaire with Likert-scale and the document of the students’ English learning achievements in the first semester in the academic year 2013/2014. The result of research finding shows that the dominant external factors are teacher factor and classroom interaction factor. The percentage of teacher factor is 80.3% and classroom interaction is 74.3%. The computation also found that the correlation between external factors and English learning achievement was categorized as high to very high (2.56). It means that the alternative hypothesis “There is a significant influence of external factors toward students’ English learning achievement” is accepted. Keywords: External factors, students English learning achievements Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan faktor eksternal dominan yang mempengaruhi hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris dan untuk mengetahui bagaiman korelasi antara faktor eksternal terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas XI SMAN 1 Sungai Kakap di tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Peneliti menerapkan penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode korelasi. Data-data dalam penelitian ini diambil menggunakan kuesioner dan dokumentasi rapor siswa kelas XI semester 1 tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor eksternal yang dominan adalah faktor guru dan faktor interaksi kelas. Persentase faktor guru sebesar 80.3% dan persentase faktor interaksi kelas sebesar 74.3%. Hasil peneitian juga menunjukkan korelasi antara faktor eksternal dan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris dikategorikan dalam korelasi yang sangat tinggi yaitu mencapai angka 2,56. Itu berarti alternatif hipotesis, yakni “Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari faktor eksternal terhadap hasil belajar siswa dalam mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris” dapat diterima. Abstrak: Permasalahansiswadalammenulisadalahmerekatidaktahubagaimanacaramenemukan ide danmengembangkan ide tersebutuntuktulisanmerekadanbagaimanamenggunakanpendapatmerekaterhadapsebuah ide tersebut. Kelas yang dipiliholehpenulisadalahkelas IPA A yang terdiridari 27 siswa.Teknikpengumpulan data yang digunakanadalahpengukurandanalat yang digunakanuntukmengumpulkan data adalahtestertulis.Penelitianinimenunjukkanbahwapenekananbimbingandenganmenggunakan 5WH dalamtahappra-menulisefektifdalammeningkatkankemampuansiswadalammenulisteksberbentuk hortatory exposition.Hasildarianalisis data menunjukkanpeningkatan yang signifikansebesar 21.85 dengannilai rata-rata pretest yaitu 55.19 yang tergolongdalamkriterianilai rata-rata dannilai rata-rata posttest yaitu 77.05 yang tergolongdalamkriterianilaibaik. Efekpengukurandariperlakuanmenunjukkanbahwapenekananbimbingandenganmenggunakanpertanyaan 5WH dalamtahappra-menulissangatefektifdalammeningkatkankemampuansiswadalammenulisteksberbentuk hortatory exposition.   Kata Kunci: PenekananBimbinganPadaTahapPra-Menulis, TeksBerbentuk Hortatory Exposition Abstract: Most of students’ problems in writing are that they do not know how to generate and develop the idea for their writing and how to express their opinion of an idea. To help the students to overcome their problems, the writer used emphasizing guidance technique in prewriting stage by giving the students 5WH questions provided by the writer to help the students to generate the idea for their writing. To help them to use their own opinion of an idea in their writing, the writer chose hortatory exposition text.This research was conducted in a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design and purposed to investigate whether the emphasis of guidance by using 5WH questions can improve students’ skill in writing hortatory exposition text to eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 6 Pontianak in academic year 2012/2013. The class which was taken by the writer was science class A which consists of 27 students. The technique of data collecting was measurement and the tool of data collecting was written test.It was found that emphasizing guidance by using 5WH in prewriting stage is effective in improving students’ skill in writing hortatory exposition text. The result of data analysis showed significant improvement of 21.85 with mean score of pretest 55.19 which is qualified as average and mean score of posttest 77.05 which is qualified as good. The effect size of the treatment (1.91) is more than 0.8 and categorized as high. The effect size of treatment shows that emphasizing guidance by using 5WH questions in prewriting stage is highly effective in improving students’ skill in writing hortatory exposition text.   Keywords: Emphasizing Guidance in Pre-Writing stage, Hortatory Exposition Text

Abstract

AbstractThis research was done to investigate how oral presentation technique improves students’ speaking ability. This classroom action research was conducted in 2 cycles of which each consists of four stages of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subject of this research was Year-11 students of SMAN 6 Pontianak in Academic Year 2018/2019. There were 33 students of MIPA 4 who participated in this research. The data were gathered from the students’ performance test, observation checklist, and field notes. Based on the data, the students showed improvement in their speaking ability. It was shown by the students’ enthusiasm to pay attention and follow every activity during the teaching and learning process. The implementation of this technique encouraged the students to speak and share their ideas in front of people. The data collected from the students’ performance test also revealed the improvement from cycle to cycle. In conclusion, the implementation of oral presentation technique improved students’ speaking ability.Keywords: Improving, Speaking Ability, Oral Presentation

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of the use of contextual analysis in teaching vocabulary to the tenth grade students of MAN 2 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. This research was conducted as a pre experimental research with the one group pretest-posttest. The sample of this research were class X MIA 1 as the experimental class. The data were collected through pretest and posttest by using multiple choice consisting of twenty items and were analyzed by using Effect Size (ES) formula. The finding shows that the effect of treatment is 1.3 (>1.00) or categorized as strong effect. It indicates that the use of contextual analysis is effective in teaching vocabulary. Keywords: Contextual Analysis, vocabulary Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan penggunaan analisis konteks dalam pengajaran kosa kata terhadap siswa kelas X MAN 2 Pontianak tahun ajaran 203/2014. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode pre eksperimen dengan desain pretest dan posttest. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari kelas X MIA 1 sebagai kelas eksperimen. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui pretest dan posttest dengan menggunakan tes pilihan ganda yang berjumlah dua puluh soal dan data tersebut dianalisa dengan menggunakan rumus ES (Tingkat Efektifitas). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa efek dari penggunaan contextual analysis adalah 1.3 (>1.00) atau dikategorikan memiliki efek yang kuat.
