Abstract

This research was aimed to answer theseproblems;(1) ifthe S.M.A.R.T strategy improves students’ ability to comprehend descriptive texts, and if so, (2) how well the S.M.A.R.T strategy improves students’ ability to comprehend descriptive texts. The data of this research was collected by using measurement technique  in form of multiple choice to measure the students’ achievement. The total of test items were 20 items. The researcher employed KR21 formula to calculate the reliability of try out test, and the result was 0.718 (Substantial). The finding of this research showed that the meanof pretest ( is 65.83, and for the mean of posttset ( is 78.89, it is shown improvement. Then, is 4.936 and the  is 2.030, so the  is higher than (4.936 > 2.030), it mean that Ha is accepted, the S.M.A.R.T strategy improves student’s ability to comprehend descriptive texts. Keywords: S.M.A.R.T Strategy, comprehending, Descriptive Texts.  Abstrak: Penelitian inibertujuan untuk menjawab masalah – masalah tersebut dibawah ini; (1)  apakah strategi S.M.A.R.T meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks deskriptif, dan jika iya, (2) Seberapa baik strategi S.M.A.R.T untuk meningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks deskriptif. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan menggunakan tekhnik hitungan dalam bentuk pilihan ganda untuk mengukur pencapaian siswa.Jumlah test ada 20 soal. Peneliti mencari formula KR21 untuk menghitung reliability test, dan hasilnya adalah 0.718 (substantial). Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan rata – rata pretest ( adalah 65.83, dan untuk rata – rata posttest (  adalah 78.89, menunjukkan peningkatan. Selanjutnya, adalah 4.936 danadalah 2.030, jadi nilai lebih tinggi dari  (4.936 > 2.030), yang berarti bahwa Ha diterima, StrategiS.M.A.R.T meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks deskriptif. Abstract

  Abstract : Vocabulary are needed to expand the students’ capability to understand about new ideas. Lack of vocabulary definitely makes the process of communication difficult. The purpose of this research is to investigate whether or not the use of English pop songs is effective in teaching vocabulary to the eighth grade students of SMPN 16 Pontianak. In this research, writer employs the measurement technique to measure the students’ vocabulary. The calculation of students, score by using t-test is 11.83. And based on t-value, it is higher than t-table 34 df (degree of freedom) that is 2.04 in the level 0.05. The result of the computation of the significant of the treatment is 2.01.It is higher than 0.8 and based on the crtiteria of effectiveness, it is categorized as high or effective research finding. In the other words, the English Pop Songs in an effective media to teach vocabulary. It can increase the students’ vocabulary mastery significantly.   Abstrak : Kosakata dibutuhkan untuk mengembangkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami ide-ide baru. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meneliti apakah benar atau tidak penggunaan dari lagu-lagu pop Bahasa Inggris efektif dalam mengajarkan kosakata Bahasa Inggris kepada siswa kelas delapan SMPN 16 Pontianak. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menerapkan teknik pengukuran untuk mengukur penguasaan kosakata siswa. Penghitungan dari nilai siswa menggunakan t-test adalah 11,83. Dan berdasarkan pada nilai t, lebih tinggi dari pada t-table 34 df (degree of freedom) yaitu 2,04 pada tingkat 0,05. Hasil dari penghitungan pasti pada pengajaran siswa adalah 2,01. Hal tersebut lebih tinggi dari 0,8 dan berdasarkan padar kriteria dari keefektifan, hal tersebut dikategorikan sebagai lebih tinggi atau hasil penelitian tersebut efektif. Dengan kata lain, lagu-lagu pop Bahasa Inggris adalah media yang efektif dalam mengajar kosakata Bahasa Inggris secara berarti.

Abstract

Abstrak: Permasalahansiswadalammenulisadalahmerekatidaktahubagaimanacaramenemukan ide danmengembangkan ide tersebutuntuktulisanmerekadanbagaimanamenggunakanpendapatmerekaterhadapsebuah ide tersebut. Untukmembantusiswadalammemecahkanpermasalahantersebut, penulismenggunakanteknikpenekananbimbingandalamtahappra-menulisdenganmemberikanmerekapertanyaan-pertanyaanterkaitdenganteks model yang telahdisiapkanuntukmembantusiswamenemukan ide untuktulisanmereka.Untukmembantumerekamenggunakanpendapatmerekasendiri di dalamtulisnmereka, penulismemilihteksberbentuk hortatory exposition.Penelitianinidilakukandenganmetode pre-experimental desainsatukelompok pretest-posttest yang bertujuanuntukmengetahuiapakahpenekananbimbingan  yang menggunakanpertanyaan 5WH dapatmeningkatkankemampuansiswakelassebelas di SMA Negeri 6 tahunakademik 2012/2013 dalammenulisteksberbentuk hortatory exposition. Kelas yang dipiliholehpenulisadalahkelas IPA A yang terdiridari 27 siswa.Teknikpengumpulan data yang digunakanadalahpengukurandanalat yang digunakanuntukmengumpulkan data adalahtestertulis.Penelitianinimenunjukkanbahwapenekananbimbingandenganmenggunakan 5WH dalamtahappra-menulisefektifdalammeningkatkankemampuansiswadalammenulisteksberbentuk hortatory exposition.Hasildarianalisis data menunjukkanpeningkatan yang signifikansebesar 21.85 dengannilai rata-rata pretest yaitu 55.19 yang tergolongdalamkriterianilai rata-rata dannilai rata-rata posttest yaitu 77.05 yang tergolongdalamkriterianilaibaik. Efekpengukurandariperlakuanmenunjukkanbahwapenekananbimbingandenganmenggunakanpertanyaan 5WH dalamtahappra-menulissangatefektifdalammeningkatkankemampuansiswadalammenulisteksberbentuk hortatory exposition.   Kata Kunci: PenekananBimbinganPadaTahapPra-Menulis, TeksBerbentuk Hortatory Exposition Abstract: Most of students’ problems in writing are that they do not know how to generate and develop the idea for their writing and how to express their opinion of an idea. To help the students to overcome their problems, the writer used emphasizing guidance technique in prewriting stage by giving the students 5WH questions provided by the writer to help the students to generate the idea for their writing. To help them to use their own opinion of an idea in their writing, the writer chose hortatory exposition text.This research was conducted in a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design and purposed to investigate whether the emphasis of guidance by using 5WH questions can improve students’ skill in writing hortatory exposition text to eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 6 Pontianak in academic year 2012/2013. The class which was taken by the writer was science class A which consists of 27 students. The technique of data collecting was measurement and the tool of data collecting was written test.It was found that emphasizing guidance by using 5WH in prewriting stage is effective in improving students’ skill in writing hortatory exposition text. The result of data analysis showed significant improvement of 21.85 with mean score of pretest 55.19 which is qualified as average and mean score of posttest 77.05 which is qualified as good. The effect size of the treatment (1.91) is more than 0.8 and categorized as high. The effect size of treatment shows that emphasizing guidance by using 5WH questions in prewriting stage is highly effective in improving students’ skill in writing hortatory exposition text.   Keywords: Emphasizing Guidance in Pre-Writing stage, Hortatory Exposition Text

Abstract

Introduction. Sepsis is defined as organ dysfunction caused by dysregulation of the host’s response to infection. The majority of sepsis are experienced by elderly patients with high mortality rates. In the condition of sepsis, there are various body mechanisms that cause a decrease in albumin and hemoglobin. This study is to determine the predictive value of albumin and hemoglobin levels on 28-day mortality of elderly sepsis patients.

Abstract

Reducing the incidence of stunting is one of the goals of the 2025 Global Nutrition Targets. The prevalence of stunting in children in Indonesia is still high over the last decade. Lack of knowledge on nutritional intake, maternal nutritional status factors, breastfeeding practices, complementary feeding practices, and exposure to infections as well as other factors including education, food system, health care, and sanitation are important determinants of child stunting in Indonesia. This community service activity is carried out with the aim of providing counseling about stunting to mothers and measuring the nutritional status of toddlers as an effort to prevent stunting. The activity was coordinated by students who are members of the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University (FK Unsri) and Muhammadiyah University (FK UM), involving FK Unsri lecturers, in collaboration with staff at the Puskesmas Taman Bacaan Palembang. At the end of the activity, participants became more aware of the importance of measuring children's nutritional status and stunting prevention measures. There were 6 toddlers who were indicated to be malnourished and reported for management by the Puskesmas team so that they did not progress to stunting.

Abstract

Kenaikan berat badan yang tidak sesuai selama kehamilan bisa menjadi petunjuk mengenai kurangnya gizi ibu hamil dan juga berdampak pada ibu maupun janin. Status gizi pada masa prahamil, saat hamil dan masa menyusui tersebut menjadi faktor yang memengaruhi keberhasilan ibu menyusui ASI eksklusif selama 6 bulan. Keberhasilan menyusui tersebut juga dipengaruhi oleh kegiatan Inisiasi Menyusu Dini (IMD). Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini berlokasi di Puskesmas Taman Bacaan. Melalui kegiatan ini diharapkan masyarakat khususnya para ibu hamil bisa mendapatkan pengetahuan mengenai status gizi ibu hamil, pentingnya ASI Eksklusif dan IMD. Kegiatan awal adalah pemberian pre-test untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan, dilanjutkan dengan penyuluhan tentang topik-topik tersebut. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini sangat dibutuhkan untuk memperbaiki tingkat pengetahuan ibu hamil, terutama pada ibu yang memiliki risiko malnutrisi. Peserta mengikuti kegiatan dengan baik dan berdiskusi aktif. Penyuluhan ini merupakan salah satu langkah pendahuluan bagi para ibu hamil yang nantinya bisa dilanjutkan dengan pemantauan peningkatan status gizi dan selama hamil dan pascapersalinan.

Abstract

 Introduction: Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor originating from primary squamous epithelial cells and it is one of the several types of cancers that affects more to women. Methods: This research uses descriptive analytic with case- control. The sample was 52 patients who divided into 26 patients with cervical cancer and 26 patients with non - cervical cancer were outpatient and inpatient at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang during the period September 2016 -November 2016. This study uses primary data in the form of interviews. Data was analyzed by univariate and presented in a frequency distribution table. Furthermore, using bivariate analysis to determine the relationship and OR. Result: From 8 risk factors studied, there is sygnificancy correlation between pathological vaginal discharge (p= 0,0005 OR= ∞), parity (p= 0,0005 OR= 22,7), age (p= 0,0005 OR= 19,2), oral contraception usage for a long time (p= 0,0005, OR= 12,4), age of the first intercourse (p= 0,006, OR= 6,1 ), and the husband’s occupation (p= 0,05 OR= 3,6) with the incidence of cervical cancer. While, there are two risk factors that don’t have a sygnificancy correlation between smoking (p= 1,0) and changing sexual partners (p= 1,0) with the incidence of cervical cancer. Conclusion: The results of this research identified  risk factors that significantly related to cervical cancer incidence was the age, the age of first sexual intercourse, parity, long-term oral contraceptive use, a history of vaginal discharge, and the husband's occupation.

Abstract

Educational methodologies have continually evolved to accommodate the diverse needs of learners. One such evolution has seen the rise of game-based learning, aiming to make education more interactive and engaging. This research focused on determining the efficacy of the Jeopardy game in enhancing the understanding of the simple present tense among seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Sungai Ambawang during the Academic Year 2022/2023. Using a pre-experimental research design, this study delved into the potential advantages of game-based learning over traditional teaching methods. A sample size of 25 students from class VII A was meticulously chosen to ensure the results' consistency and accuracy. To measure the students' grasp of the simple present tense both before and after the Jeopardy game intervention, a multiple-choice test, consisting of 20 items, was administered. Each item in the test offered four options (a, b, c, and d) for students to choose from. Statistical analysis of the gathered data resulted in compelling outcomes. The null hypothesis (H0), which posited that the Jeopardy game would have no significant impact on the students' understanding of the simple present tense, was soundly rejected. In contrast, the alternative hypothesis (Ha), suggesting the game's effectiveness, was accepted. This conclusion was bolstered by a notable t-value of 9.62, surpassing the critical t-table value of 2.064 at 24 degrees of freedom with a 5% significance level. Furthermore, the study highlighted a strong effect size of 1.9, indicating the game's substantial impact on learning.

Abstract

This study investigated how the "Brainstorming of Recognizes Stages in a Group" method encouraged students’ motivation to speak English, focusing on both intrinsic and extrinsic aspects. Conducted through Classroom Action Research (CAR) in two cycles at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak, the study involved 35 eleventh-grade students. Data were gathered using field notes, questionnaires, and observation sheets. The average motivation score improved from 2.8 (unmotivated) in the first cycle to 3.23 (moderate motivation) in the second cycle, indicating a 44.39% increase. Students who were initially passive and afraid of making mistakes became more active, confident, and engaged in expressing their ideas. The method also promoted respect and collaboration among students in group discussions. These findings indicate that the Brainstorming of Recognizes Stages in a Group effectively enhances students’ motivation to speak English
