Abstract

Maggots or larvae of the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) are decomposer insects widely cultivated in Indonesia due to their efficient and environmentally friendly ability to degrade organic waste. One of the key components in BSF is chitin, which accounts for approximately 17.93% (w/w) of its total body weight. Chitin can be converted into chitosan through deacetylation and hydrolyzed into glucosamine. Glucosamine has been shown to possess potential in the prevention and management of metabolic syndrome-related diseases such as hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, and obesity. This study explores the potential of glucosamine derived from BSF chitin in reducing the risk of metabolic syndrome. The method used is a literature review of various scientific articles. The findings indicate that glucosamine can activate the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway, which regulates glucose and lipid metabolism. AMPK activation inhibits adipogenesis, fatty acid synthesis, cholesterol production, and adipose tissue formation, positively affecting metabolic syndrome management. Therefore, glucosamine derived from BSF chitin has the potential to serve as a natural bioactive agent for the prevention of metabolic syndrome through AMPK pathway regulation.

Abstract

Background: Liver cirrhosis is a chronic liver disease characterized by fibrosis and replacement of normal liver tissue with abnormal nodules. The main etiologies include hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections, alcohol-related liver disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The prevalence of liver cirrhosis based on autopsy findings is around 2.4% in Western countries, while in the United States it is estimated at 360 per 100,000 population, causing approximately 35,000 deaths annually. Objective: This case report aims to describe the treatment and identify drug-related problems (DRPs) in a patient diagnosed with PNSD CTP B liver cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis B, dyspepsia syndrome, hypoalbuminemia, and impaired liver function. Method: This study employed a case report design with primary data obtained from patient interviews and retrospective documentation review. Data were analyzed using the SOAP method to identify DRPs. Results: The analysis revealed minor drug interactions, including spironolactone–furosemide, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)–morphine sulfate tablet (MST), and cefixime–furosemide. Conclusion: Patients with complex comorbidities are at increased risk of DRPs. Continuous pharmacotherapy monitoring is essential to minimize toxicity and adverse effects.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the level of independence learning, chemical learning outcomes and the correlation between independence learning and chemical learning outcomes during the Covid-19 period in class XI MIPA SMAN 6 Mataram in 2020/2021. This type of research is called correlational research. The population used was all students from class XI MIPA SMAN 6 Mataram in 2020/2021, which consisted of 4 classes totaling 126 students and the sample used was 56 students using the Slovin formula. The sampling technique is proportional random sampling. Data in the form of the level of independence learning were collected using a questionnaire distribution technique, while the learning outcomes data were collected using a documentation technique from the value of chemistry test result. The data analysis technique used is non-parametric statistics using contingency correlation coefficient test. The results showed that the level of independence learning and chemical learning outcomes were categorized as moderate. The results also show a contingency correlation coefficient (C) which is 0.612 and compared to a rtable of 0.266 which shows there is a positive and significant relationship between independence learning and chemical learning outcomes during the Covid-19 period in class XI MIPA SMAN 6 Mataram Years 2020/2021

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease with increasing prevalence, particularly in rural areas with limited access to health information and services. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of residents in Empat Balai Village, Kuok Subdistrict, Kampar Regency, Riau, regarding DM, its risk factors, and prevention efforts through an educational and participatory community-based approach. The method involved direct counseling, group discussions, and pre-test and post-test assessments to evaluate participants' understanding. The results indicated a significant improvement in knowledge, with the average score increasing from 6.7 (pre-test) to 8.98 (post-test). The education program successfully dispelled common myths, raised awareness of healthy lifestyles, and fostered positive perceptions of both medical and non-medical treatment options. The enthusiastic response from the community demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach in promoting health and preventing non-communicable diseases. This activity highlights the importance of collaboration between students, healthcare workers, and local authorities in public health education and the need for sustained outreach programs.
