Abstract

Nocturnal insects are a type of insect that is active at night and plays a role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem and has an ecologically and economically occurring role. This study was conducted to determine the diversity, evenness, and dominance of nocturnal insects based on the color of the light trap lamp at the Vegetable Crop Research Center of Tongkoh Village, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. This study used the light trap method by making a transect 100 m long and on the transect, 5 observation stations were installed. There are 27 insect families consisting of 35 types of nocturnal insects with a total of 240 individuals. The most common type of insect found is Empoasca fabae. The diversity index (H') is included in the moderate category with a value of 2.10 on the green lamp trap, 1.38 on the blue lamp trap, 2.23 on the yellow lamp trap, 2.76 on the white lamp trap, and 2.26 on the red lamp trap, this shows that the insect diversity at the study site is in a stable condition. The dominance index (C) is categorized as low with a value of 0.184 on green light traps, 0.347 on blue lamp traps, 0.222 on yellow light traps, 0.092 on white light traps, and 0.150 on red light traps. This situation occurs because there is no type of nocturnal insect that is too dominant so that the diversity of insects is classified as being in a stable state.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the errors made by students in pronouncing diphthong “eɪ, oʊ, aɪ”. This study used a quantitative approach. To obtain valid data, the researchers administered a test that was carried out to 30 students as the sample taken from IX IPA 1 of SMA Negeri 4 Langsa. Based on the research, the data showed that one student made errors 6 times and got score 50, three students made errors 5 times and got score 58. Seven students made errors 4 times and got score 67, four students made errors 3 times and got score 75. Eight students made errors 2 times and got score 83. Six students made errors 1 time and got score 92. There was only one student who made no errors and got score 100. The cause of errors in pronouncing English diphthongs was revealed to be affected by interference of the mother tongue which is popular as the basic principle of contrastive analysis. The coming pre-service teachers were able to devise appropriate lesson plan in diphthong pronunciation teaching. In addition, it is also hoped that they can construct the suitable material for various levels and needs of learners.

Abstract

Indonesia recognizes several legal systems i.e., state law, customary law, Islamic law, and international law. Islamic sharia in Aceh is part of legal pluralism in Indonesia. This study aims to discuss the application of Islamic sharia from the perspective of legal pluralism. This normative legal study employed a legal pluralism theory analysis. Legal pluralism is a theory that views law not only as positive or written law made by the state but also as a recognition of the legal reality that exists in a pluralistic society. The study collected data by means of a literature review. Findings revealed that Islamic sharia in Aceh as part of the recognition of the concept of legal pluralism has been implemented well in the context of state law, custom, and Islamic law. The state has provided juridical legitimacy through laws in the context of legal substance and judicial institutions or sharia courts. Likewise, revitalization has also occurred in traditional institutions in terms of customary law and customary justice. The argument emphasized in this study is that Islamic sharia in the context of legal pluralism has succeeded in manifesting legal harmonization between the state, custom, and Islamic law

Abstract

This study was grounded in the observation that students often encounter challenges when attempting to initiate the introductory paragraph of a descriptive text due to insufficient command of vocabulary. Hence, this experimental research employed the VCOP strategy as a viable approach with the purpose was to enhance students' vocabulary, thereby influencing their writing skills. The research was conducted at SMK Negeri 5 Langsa, with X3 assigned as the experimental class and X5 as the control class. Each class comprised 32 students. The instruments employed in this study were pre-test and post-test. The findings indicated that the implementation of the VCOP was successful in enhancing students' writing proficiency. The statistical finding showed that the post-test score of the Experimental Group (EG) was greater than those of the Control Group (CG). The discrepancy between 69.38 and 57.19 was calculated to be 12.19. This disparity suggested that the administered treatment had a positive impact on pupils' learning outcomes. Furthermore, the t-test value of -3.8 obtained in this study exceeded the predetermined threshold, indicating a significant difference between the two groups. Consequently, the alternative hypothesis was accepted whereas the null hypothesis was rejected. The findings suggest that the academic performance of the experimental group was superior to that of the control group. Hence, VCOP is believed as an alternative strategy to be applied in writing classroom.

Abstract

Linguistic issues such as interference and integration frequently arise in multilingual environment, which frequently result in barriers to second language production. This study examines at how language interaction between Acehnese and Indonesian has affected the Indonesian language in Langsa, with a particular emphasis on consonant variations and interference. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of phonological interference on Acehnese speakers when speaking the Indonesian language, with a specific focus on observing variations in consonant sounds using auditory means.  The study conducted a detailed examination of common variances in Indonesian pronunciation among Acehnese speakers.  This qualitative research was carried out in Langsa, Aceh Province, involving  40 individuals who are native speakers of Acehnese. The participants consisted of 20 males and 20 females, encompassing a range of ages.  The collected data was evaluated using the PRAAT software.  The findings revealed that there was interference in pronunciation, particularly in the form of devoicing, which is the absence of vowel resonance. This was observed in the words "[ap. di]" and "[ʤa.wap]."  This interference leads to a significant level of devoicing, reaching 90% and 100% respectively.  Furthermore, the study revealed phonological interference in words such as "[thə.linga]", "[tə.thap]", and "[a.hat]", with speakers demonstrating devoicing rates of 40%, 40%, and 100% respectively.  The findings showed the complex nature of phonological interference in the pronunciation of the Indonesian language by Acehnese speakers.  These findings served as a foundation for the development of more effective strategies for acquiring a second language, particularly in diglossic environments like Indonesia.
