Abstract

In the era of industrial revolution 4.0, digital technology is constantly improving in many areas of industry, particularly in business. It forces every business, whether large corporations or small businesses, to make various adjustments in order to keep up with the advancement of digital technology. They should be aware of how far their improvement and readiness have advanced in the digital era. This paper measures the digital readiness of SMEs and categorizes them into the level of digital readiness. The research examined the level of digital readiness among businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in West Java. A survey of 113 SMEs in West Java was conducted to assess their digital readiness. This research used a descriptive survey research approach. The research method itself is carried out by using a cross sectional survey method. Five variables used in this research include people, process, strategy, technology, and integration. Findings indicated that SMEs in Indonesia show a low level of readiness in relation to Industry 4.0. The majority of the respondents are aware about the phenomenon of digitalization, but they are currently not ready to adapt or use various innovations in their businesses. People, process, strategy, technology, and integration are the five variables analyzed, and the variable showing the best readiness to face digitization is people. SMEs business owners are still taking initial steps to identify the most appropriate strategy to approach industrial revolution 4.0. SMEs must take advantage of existing opportunities, especially with the availability of various information and data to develop business and make decisions. In general, the majority of businesses in Indonesia are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are aware of the development of digitalization but are hesitant to implement it and require extensive assistance from various parties to understand and implement digitalization in their business.

Abstract

The extraction method plays a crucial role in obtaining high-quality DNA samples, which is indispensable for various molecular biology techniques and analyses, enabling a deeper comprehension of genetic information and biological processes. The objectives of the study were: a) to optimize the chloroplast DNA extraction protocol by comparing modified CTAB methods and GeneAid for both leaf and wood samples of Shorea leprosula, a major commercial timber species, and b) to identify a suitable cpDNA region that exhibits variability and universality across taxa. Total DNA was analyzed by gel electrophoresis followed by Sanger sequencing to determine the amplification success. The results revealed that trnL intron, trnL-trnF, and trnG yielded readable sequences of the expected length (maximum 586 bp, 480 bp, and 908 bp, respectively), while the rps 16 intron failed to assemble a contig. The petL-psbE region provided long readability for reverse sequences (769 bp) but not for the forward sequence (195 bp). Higher successful DNA extraction was achieved from the leaves compared to the woods. The lower sequencing quality may be attributed to suboptimal primer design, the structural features of the regions resulting from extensive repetitive sequences, and the suboptimal condition of the extraction method in eliminating wood chemical compounds.

Abstract

Corporate governance is a key element in ensuring transparency, accountability, and operational integrity in a company. In the manufacturing sector, the implementation of effective corporate governance is essential to improve the company's financial performance. However, there is still a knowledge gap regarding how corporate governance affects the financial performance of companies in this sector. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature review approach to explore the relationship between corporate governance and financial performance in manufacturing companies. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of good corporate governance can prevent mismanagement, increase transparency and accountability, and integrate values, ethics, and risk management into the company's strategy. In addition, the results of the study also indicate that companies that implement effective governance can increase the trust of investors and other stakeholders, which in turn supports long-term business growth and sustainability. However, many companies still face challenges in implementing strong governance, indicating the need for greater efforts in education and training and the development of better internal control systems. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of companies to strengthen their governance in order to achieve optimal financial performance and long-term sustainability. It provides important contributions both in enriching the academic literature and in providing practical guidance for manufacturing companies to strengthen governance and improve their financial performance. This implication emphasizes the importance of good corporate governance to achieve long-term business sustainability and create value for all stakeholders.

Abstract

This research produced key findings related to the causes, handling, and preventive efforts of non-performing loans. The analysis revealed that the main causative factors are the debtors' inability to manage their finances and economic fluctuations. This inability is often caused by miscalculations or a sudden drop in income, such as a decline in business sales or job loss. Conversely, economic turmoil such as inflation, high interest rates, or recession also exacerbates the situation, making it difficult for debtors to meet payment obligations. Dealing with non-performing loans requires a layered approach that is customized, depending on the specific conditions of the debtor and creditor. One effective method is loan restructuring, which involves modifying the terms and conditions of the loan to make it more affordable for the debtor. In addition, asset seizure and liquidation is also a last resort to reduce losses for creditors. Enforcement of credit risk management through stricter evaluation of creditworthiness and utilization of advanced technology is also important to minimize the risk of future non-performing loans. For the prevention of non-performing loans, continuous financial education and good communication with debtors are essential first steps. Financial education programs can help individuals and businesses understand better financial management, while proactive communication between lenders and borrowers provides early warning of potential financial problems. In addition, the implementation of stricter credit policies and closer monitoring of creditor performance are also important steps in the prevention of non-performing loans before the problem becomes unmanageable. Overall, the handling and prevention of non-performing loans requires good coordination and a comprehensive approach from various relevant parties. Lenders need to develop more sophisticated procedures and tools for risk evaluation and management, while borrowers need to be adequately educated on financial management. With these collective efforts, the risk of non-performing loans can be minimized and financial stability at the micro and macro levels can be better ensured.
