Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the socio-scientific issue approach with the investigative group learning model on the critical thinking skills on environmental change. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research population is the students of class X IPA SMAN 1 Batu Sopang, Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, in the academic year 2020/2021. The samples were class X IPA 1 (experimental group) and X IPA 2 (control group) . The test instrument used is a written test. The average pre-test and post-test of the experimental class increased by 15.86, while the average value of the pre-test and post-test of the control class increased by 8.62. the two classes have a difference of 7.24. The N-Gain test result for the experimental class is 0.33, including the medium category and the control class is 0.20, including the low category. The results of the independent samples t-test are sig. 0.08 < 0.05 and t count 2.740 > 1.99, meaning that H0 is rejected. Based on the study results, the socio-scientific approach to issues with the investigative group learning model proved to be more effective in improving students' critical thinking skills than conventional learning models

Abstract

Both teachers and students require teaching materials to assist learning. This is necessary for students to understand the course and will greatly aid understanding, Problem-solving skills are very important for students, but students feel inadequate in problem-solving skills, so there is a need for teaching materials that contain Problem-Based Learning. This study aims to analyze the need for teaching materials, especially student worksheets based on Problem-Based Learning to improve student problem-solving. This research is qualitative and quantitative. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII SMP Negeri 14 Yogyakarta. Research data were collected using a questionnaire containing 16 questions, interviews, and observations. The methods for data analysis Techniques for analyzing data include using qualitative methods to examine how curriculum, student characteristics, and learning resources are used and presenting the results in forms that may be used for descriptive statistics, such as graphs and standard tables. The results showed that: Based on interviews, questionnaires, and observations on teaching materials, student characteristics, and the curriculum used. It can be said that, on average, 79.8% of students need additional electronic-based teaching materials on the topic of additives and addictive substances, and the unavailability of teaching materials in the form of electronic worksheets based on problem-based learning.

Abstract

This study aims to 1) determine the feasibility of smart apps creator-based learning media used in learning activities, and 2) determine the effectiveness of Smart Apps Creator-based learning media to improve Critical Thinking and Problem Solving skills in Global Warming Materials for Class X Students of SMAN 4 Berau. This research is a Research and Development (R&D) study which refers to the ADDIE model. This research was conducted on 30 students in limited trials and field trials using class X1 and X3 students each of 32 students. The results of the study are that the learning media developed meet the eligibility based on expert judgment and effective learning media in improving critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities. The results of the Manova test show a sig value of 0.000 <0.05, namely Ha is accepted so that there are differences in critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities between students who use Smart Apps Creator learning media and PowerPoint learning media. The N-gain test of learning media on critical thinking skills gets a score of 68.82 which means it is quite effective and for problem solving skills it gets a score of 91.64 which means it is effective.

Abstract

To solve problems accurately and focused, students must have problem solving skills. The purpose of this study was to evaluate class X students of SMA N 4 Yogyakarta in the even semester of the academic year. This study uses a descriptive quantitative research method. As a sample used simple random sampling. According to Polya, there are four indicators of problem-solving ability: Understanding the problem, preparing, implementing plans, and re-checking are steps that must be taken. On the topic of environmental change, the test instrument revealed that students' problem-solving abilities were in the high range. But if we look at each indicator separately, we can see that all four of them belong to a group. This is because students do not double-check their written answers and continue to doubt these answers. The non-test instrument study, on the other hand, the non-test instrument study found that students' problem solving abilities were very good. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the students' overall problem solving abilities are of a high standard. Because research findings cannot be used with all materials, problem solving skills must be tested with different materials.

Abstract

This study explores how PBL integrated into blended learning affects the enhancement of critical thinking and problem-solving skills among senior high school students. It employs a quasi-experimental design involving a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group. Participants consist of students from class X-5 assigned to the experimental group and students from class X-8 assigned to the control group. Data were collected using a validated description test to measure critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Analysis involved MANOVA, N-Gain calculation, and the Pearson correlation test. Findings indicate that implementing PBL in blended learning effectively improves critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The experimental group's average post-test score for critical thinking was 85.83, compared to 75.42 in the control group, and for problem-solving, it was 85.56, compared to 71.67 in the control group.

Abstract

This research aims to produce interactive learning media that is feasible, practical and effective to use on endocrine system material to increase learning motivation for class XI high school students. This research uses the method Research and Development (R&D) with the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) development model. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Minggir on class XI MIPA students consisting of 2 classes, namely the control class and the experimental class with a total of 36 students each. The data collection instruments used were material expert and media expert validation sheets, biology teacher assessment sheets, student response sheets and non-test instruments in the form of questionnaires. Analysis of learning motivation data was calculated using the independent sample t˗test with a significance level of 0.05. The average learning motivation obtained in the experimental class was 89.98 with an N-gain value of 0.75 in the high category, while the average learning motivation in the control class was 59.72 with an N-gain value of 0.55, in the medium category. Based on the results of the Independent Sample t-test, the results obtained were 0.000 < 0.05 and it was stated that media use interactive learning proven effective in increasing student learning motivation.

Abstract

The integration of local potential into biology education is essential for enhancing student engagement, creativity, and environmental awareness. However, its implementation remains suboptimal in various regions, including Lampung Province. This study aims to identify and analyze the diversity of bird species in Way Kambas National Park (WKNP) as a potential biology learning resource. Using a descriptive exploratory approach with the point count method, observations were conducted at three locations within WKNP, identifying 33 bird species from 21 families, with a total of 727 individuals. The diversity index values indicate moderate species richness, highlighting the park’s ecological significance. Compared to previous studies, which primarily focused on megafauna, this research emphasizes avian biodiversity as a novel approach to contextual learning. The findings demonstrate that incorporating local avifauna into the curriculum enhances students' understanding of ecosystem dynamics, biodiversity conservation, and species adaptation. This study provides practical implications for biology education by promoting field-based learning, fostering conservation awareness, and encouraging schools to integrate local biodiversity into teaching materials. Strengthening collaboration between educators, conservationists, and local communities is crucial for maximizing the educational benefits of regional biodiversity.
