Abstract

The Kebalai death dance originates from the island of Rote Ndao. This dance is performed en masse regardless of social status and religion. The process is carried out by forming a circle, holding hands, then followed by a collective foot and hand movements following the rhythm of the poem. The Kebalai death dance aims to give the family left behind patience and fortitude so as not to drag on in prolonged grief. The purpose of this study is to determine the process of forming social solidarity that occurs in Rote society through the values of the Kebalai death dance. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnographic research type. Data collection was carried out through interviews and observations conducted in Rote Ndao. This research found that the Kebalai death dance forms public spatial mechanical solidarity through the values of togetherness, equality, unity, and comfort represented in Kebalai death dance. This research concludes that the spatial formed in the Kebalai death dance is a shared spatial, joint footing, melting together, and collective morale of the entire Rote community to provide comfort to families who experience grief.

Abstract

Mamasa is the district of the province of West Sulawesi which has a custom which it was accepted and implemented by the local society. To oversee the implementation of adat by the local society, fifteen traditional leaders were elected in each region. Some of them were given the title Indo' (Mother) even though they were male. The title Indo' given to traditional leaders is intended so that they become leaders who protect, guard, and ensure peace, tranquility, and the welfare of their society. The pattern of leadership of the traditional leader with the title Indo' describes Mamasa's egalitarian and humanist culture, but this culture later changed into the patriarchal, superior and exclusive culture by  Zendeling Christelijke Gereformeerde Kerk (ZCGK) came to Mamasa as a religious movement. This paper aims to examine the social and cultural impacts arising from deconstruction which makes the values of local wisdom in Mamasa experience changed it. Previously, Mamasa's local wisdom contained egalitarian and humanist values, then with the entry of zending into Mamasa, it shifted into the patriarchal, individualist, and authoritarian culture. In order to be able to conduct research, the method of data collection was carried out by the authors through interviews and document review. One of the results found in the research is that there is a gender bias towards Christian women who are not entrusted with holding ecclesiastical positions in the Toraja Mamasa Church (GTM) either as Pastors, Elders, or as Deacons so that they cannot  participated in ecclesiastical trials at GTM.Mamasa merupakan sebuah kabupaten di propinsi Sulawesi Barat yang memiliki adat di mana adat itu diterima dan dilaksanakan oleh masyarakat setempat. Untuk mengawasi pelaksanaan adat oleh masyarakat adat, dipilihlah 15 orang ketua adat di masing- masing daerah. Sebagian dari mereka diberi gelar Indo’ (Ibu) kendatipun mereka berjenis kelamin laki- laki. Gelar Indo’ yang diberikan kepada ketua adat dimaksudkan agar mereka menjadi pemimpin yang mengayomi, melindungi dan berusaha menjamin kedamaian, ketentraman dan kesejahteraan masyarakatnya. Pola kepemimpinan ketua adat yang bergelar Indo’ ini mendeskripsikan budaya Mamasa yang egaliter dan  humanis, namun budaya itu kemudian berubah menjadi budaya patriakhal, superrior, dan eksklusif oleh kedatangan Zendeling Christelijke Gereformeerde Kerk (ZCGK) ke Mamasa sebagai gerakan keagamaan. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk meneliti dampak sosial dan budaya yang ditimbulkan dari dekonstruksi yang membuat nilai- nilai kearifan budaya di Mamasa mengalami perubahan. Sebelumnya, kearifan lokal Mamasa mengandung nilai yang egaliter dan humanis kemudian dengan masuknya zending ke Mamasa maka berubah menjadi budaya yang patriarki, individualis, dan otoriter. Untuk dapat melakukan penelitian, maka metode pengumpulan data dilakukan oleh penulis melalui wawancara dan telaah dokumen. Salah satu hasil yang ditemukan dalam penelitian adalah adanya bias gender kepada perempuan Kristen yang tidak diberi kepercayaan untuk memegang jabatan gerejawi di Gereja Toraja Mamasa (GTM) baik itu sebagai Pendeta, Penatua, maupun sebagai Diaken sehingga tidak dapat diutus menjadi peserta dalam persidangan gerejawi di GTM.

Abstract

This research discusses the meaning of sialo dance. Sialo dance is one of the traditions of the Bastem Luwu community in South Sulawesi which is performed at the death ceremony (rambu solo). Understanding the values and meanings contained in sialo dances is often neglected and lack of concern, including the millennial generation not understanding and not knowing the values and meanings of sialo dances contained therein. The focus of this research explores the meanings contained in the sialo dance at the rambu solo ceremony from the perspective of the sociology of local culture. this writing is useful to increase knowledge about the culture of Luwu South Sulawesi.The author uses qualitative method research realist ethnographic approach to describe the meanings of interaction and cultural values of sialo dance. The author's local cultural sociology study uses the perspective of Herbert Mead's thinking, Herbert Blumer, Clifford Geertz with the perspective of symbolic interactionism studies. The research location is Lalong Village, Luwu Regency, Walenrang District, South Sulawesi. This writing is focused on exploring the meanings and values of the sialo dance which is the local culture of the Bastem community at the rambu solo ceremony. The results of this study indicate the meaning of the sialo dance, which is meaningful to tell the life history of the deceased person who was celebrated. In addition, this dance also has a meaning to welcome government guests who come to share grief with the deceased family.

Abstract

Pastoral assistance and counseling services are provided for those who are in a weak situation and condition, both physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually, as is done for palliative cancer patients. The aim is for cancer palliative patients to be able to face and overcome the pain they are experiencing with inner calm. However, reality shows that patient families also need pastoral care and counseling services, because patient families also experience a weak situation when a member of their family experiences cancer. One of the impacts experienced by the patient's family is that they experience deep sadness. If pastoral care and counseling services are not immediately provided, the patient's family will experience deterioration both psychologically, sociologically and even spiritually. Even though on the one hand, the patient's family is the caregiver for cancer patients, on the other hand, the patient's family also needs support and support from other parties so that the cancer patient and the patient's family together can face this condition. So pastoral care and counseling services are not only an important need for cancer palliative patients but also an important need for the patient's family. This article aims to explain the importance of pastoral care and counseling services for palliative cancer patients and their families. The author will use Jocob Daan Engel's Indonesian theory of mentoring and counseling and Howard Clinebell's theory of pastoral counseling and community counseling. The descriptive qualitative method was used by the author to explain the social psychological conditions of cancer palliative patients and the pastoral care and counseling that is really needed by cancer palliative patients and the patient's families at Church X. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interviews and documentation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the social construction process as an effort to internalize the value of tolerance in Nyadran through the addition of the word Perdamaian which is then often referred to as Nyadran Perdamaian. This research is a qualitative study using a case study approach in Krecek Hamlet and Glethuk Hamlet. Research data were obtained through the process of in-depth interviews and literature studies. This research results in an understanding that the social construction of Nyadran Perdamaian gives rise to the internalization of the value of tolerance. The value of tolerance in Nyadran Perdamaian is lived through the creation of social reality with the dialectical triad process of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. The appreciation of the value of tolerance by the people of Krecek and Gletuk Hamlets is also pursued through the institutionalization of tradition by changing the name to Nyadran Perdamaian. From the findings of this study, it can be understood that good values in tradition can be maximized through the creation of social reality by individuals or humans. The creation of social reality in Nyadran Perdamaian can also be a prototype for other regions to live the noble values in the tradition. This research also contributes to enriching the study of social construction and provides an understanding that values in tradition can be constructed by individuals so that they can be internalized optimally.

Abstract

Lapo tuak merupakan bagian penting dalam fasilitasi dan sosialisasi dalam masyarakat Batak Toba di Sumatera Utara. Anggota masyarakat bertemu, berkumpul, bercengkarama dan seringkali membahas berbagai masalah dan pencarian solusinya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari di lingkungannya. Penelitian kualitatif ini berupaya mendalami potensi dan fasilitasi Lapo tuak sebagai wahana pemberdayaan dan pembimbingan kehidupan sosial kemasyarakatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interaksi sosial di lapo tuak melibatkan berbagai aspek seperti tempat pertemuan sosial, pengembangan potensi diri, keterbukaan, keramahan, pola komunikasi, pertunjukan budaya, norma sosial, serta pemeliharaan hubungan keluarga. Pendampingan masyarakat di lapo tuak membantu pengembangan potensi diri, pencarian makna hidup, kerja sama, kolaborasi, dan pengembangan keterampilan kepemimpinan, yang mencerminkan nilai-nilai budaya dan solidaritas komunitas masyarakat Batak Toba.Lapo tuak plays a significant role in facilitating social interactions within the Batak Toba community in North Sumatra. Members come together at Lapo tuak to socialize, engage in discussions, and seek solutions to everyday challenges. This qualitative research aims to investigate the potential of Lapo tuak as a tool for empowerment and social guidance within the community. The study's findings reveal that social interactions at Lapo tuak encompass various aspects, including acting as meeting places, fostering self-development, promoting openness and friendliness, shaping communication patterns, showcasing cultural performances, upholding social norms, and strengthening family ties. Community involvement at Lapo tuak contributes to the development of individuals' potential, the quest for life's purpose, cooperation, collaboration, and the enhancement of leadership skills. These outcomes reflect the cultural values and solidarity within the Batak Toba community.

Abstract

Ethnomethodology is the study of what humans use in solving everyday problems and Ethnomethodology is also the study of everyday human social activities. This article wants to explain the ethnomethodological approach in the process of accompanying and providing pastoral counseling in the church. The author uses the ethnomethodological approach as a method in pastoral assistance and counseling, to find the root of the problem that must be researched in the struggles that exist in the church or that are faced by individuals in the church. . Literature review is the method used in this paper to obtain data and collect the information needed in this paper. This article begins with an explanation of ethnomethodology to explain what ethnomethodology is, then an explanation of community assistance and counseling so that readers can know how to understand assistance and counseling in society and after that the author explains how ethnomethodology is used in pastoral assistance and counseling.Etnometodologi adalah studi yang dipakai oleh manusia dalam penyelesaian masalah sehari-hari dan Etnometodologi juga adalah studi pada kegiatan sosial manusia sehari-hari. tulisan ini mau menjelaskan pendekatan etnometodologi dalam proses mendampingi dan memberikan konseling pastoral dalam gereja, penulis menggunakan pendekatan etnometodologi sebagai metode dalam pendampingan dan konseling pastoral, untuk menemukan akar masalah yang harus diteliti dalam pergumulan yang ada dalam gereja atau yang dihadapi oleh individu yang ada dalam gereja. Kajian pustaka merupakan metode yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini untuk mendapatkan data dan mengumpulkan maklumat yang diperlukan dalam tulisan ini. Tulisan ini dimulai dengan penjelasan etnometodologi untuk menjelaskan apa itu etnometodologi, kemudian penjelasan tentang pendampingan dan konseling masyarakat supaya pembaca boleh mengetahui bagaimana memahami pendampingan dan konseling dalam masyarakat dan setelah itu penulis menjelaskan bagaimana etnometodologi digunakan dalam pendampingan dan konseling pastoral.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan kontribusi dalam rekonstruksi dan reaktualisasi Tudang Sipulung sebagai basis perdamaian, dengan memfokuskan perhatian pada pemaknaan Gereja Toraja Jemaat Seriti. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif dengan jenis deskriptif. Dari hasil penelitian, Gereja Toraja Jemaat Seriti memaknai tradisi Tudang Sipulung sebagai basis perdamaian. Karena tradisi Tudang Sipulung dapat menjadi ruang negosiasi dan mediasi yang berlangsung berdasarkan prinsip-prinsip demokratis, dengan mengedepankan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal seperti Sipakatau (saling menghormati atau menghargai), Sipakainge’ (saling menasehati atau mengingatkan) dan Sipakalebbi (saling memuliakan). Tudang Sipulung berasal dari bahasa Bugis, Tudang berarti duduk dan Sipulung berarti bersama atau berkumpul. Tudang Sipulung memuat makna kerendahan hati untuk mau duduk bersama dalam memecahkan suatu persoalan secara bersama-sama sehingga terbangun keselarasan dan kebersamaan yang penuh cinta kasih dan damai sejahtera. This research aims to contribute to the reconstruction and re-actualization of Tudang Sipulung as a basis for peace, by focusing attention on the meaning of the Seriti Congregation Toraja Church. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive type. From the results of the research, the Toraja Church Seriti Congregation interprets the Tudang Sipulung tradition as a basis for peace. Because the Tudang Sipulung tradition can be a space for negotiation and mediation that takes place based on democratic principles, by prioritizing local wisdom values such as Sipakatau (mutual respect or respect), Sipakainge' (advise or remind each other) and Sipakalebbi (glorify each other). Tudang Sipulung comes from the Bugis language, Tudang means sitting and Sipulung means together or gathering. Tudang Sipulung contains the meaning of humility to want to sit together to solve a problem together so that harmony and togetherness full of love and peace can be built.

Abstract

The people of Palu experienced natural disasters on September 28, 2018. The event caused suffering in the form of trauma. Society attributes the struggle to the existence of God, as in theodicy. Nevertheless, suffering in human life has spiritual meanings. The purpose of this research was to analyze the relevance of theodicy and spiritual well-being for survivors of natural disaster trauma in Palu. This research used a qualitative method with a phenomenological type. Researchers collected data using interview techniques with five participants who were Palu residents who had experienced natural disasters on 28 September 2018, then analyzed the data through an interpretative phenomenological analysis. Researchers found three categories as themes: natural disasters events, relationships with God, and relationships with others. Researchers showed that all participants realized that natural disasters are devastating phenomena and, in fact, cause trauma. Despite the suffering, they recognized God's goodness, which restores and manifests in empathy and solidarity. Relationships with the divine and others influenced their spiritual well-being.

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 yang terjadi beberapa waktu yang lalu tentu menimbulkan dampak pada banyak aspek. Bahkan sampai saat ini, dampak dari Pandemi Covid-19 masih dapat ditemukan dan dirasakan. Dalam kegiatan bergereja dan berjemaat tentu ada dampak-dampak yang juga ditimbulkan oleh Pandemi Covid-19 tersebut, dan itu menyangkut juga pada bagaimana anggota jemaat beribadah. Berdasarkan hal tersebut maka tulisan ini bermaksud untuk mengetahui dampak Pandemi Covid-19 terhadap antusiasme anggota jemaat dalam ibadah Minggu di gereja pasca pandemi. Mengapa hal ini menjadi penting? Oleh karena dalam ibadah-ibadah di gereja, antusiasme anggota jemaat berperan besar dalam terlaksana dan optimalnya tujuan beribadah yang riil dan otentik. Untuk mencapai tujuan atau maksud penulisan ini maka metode yang dipakai adalah pengumpulan data secara kualitatif dengan melakukan observasi dan beberapa wawancara terkait dengan hal itu. Data itu kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teori perubahan sosial untuk kemudian melihat seperti apa dampak Pandemi Covid-19 terhadap antusiasme anggota jemaat dalam ibadah Minggu di gereja pasca pandemi. Dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa antusiasme beribadah anggota jemaat dalam beribadah di gereja pasca pandemi Covid-19 meningkat kembali yang mana hal ini dapat dilihat sebagai perubahan sosial dengan pola seperti bandul (kembali ke posisi awalnya setelah berayun).
