Abstract

Hindus community in Bali views time as an important matter. The presence of time or Kala is associated with the myth of Magic. The relationship can be seen in the myth of Sasih Ka-enem which is believed to be the phase of epidemic. Often the myth of Sasih Ka-enem is also associated with the discourse of Ida Ratu Gede Mas Macaling as the magi figure of propagator and disaster in Bali. Interestingly, the image of Ida Ratu Gede Mas Macaling Dalem Nusa  Penida just seems to be a living myth and "offerings" for balian,  pengiring, and mysticism. Recently, many people perceive him as an object of worship, and more various interesting versions of Magi discourse about him growing in society. Because of those reasons, it is important to study the phenomenon into this scientific writing to identify the value and meaning of Magi discourse.

Abstract

The prominent characteristic of the pre-modern and modern philosophical discourse in the archipelago is generalized to that of the spiritualism with the saivistic discourse; including a Balinese modern philosophical text entitled Aji Sangkya. However, the title of the text shows diachronic relationship with the Samkhya Dharsana the so-called Indian (Hindu) materialism with its jargon ‘evolution’. The tension between the discourse of spiritualism and materialism in the text is the main concern of the article based on its stylistic representations. The contextual stylistics and the deconstruction approach provide great opportunities to the Aji Sangkya to be interpreted as well as contextualized. Having elaborated the data, it is found that the text implies the process of materialization of the spirit (purusha or atman) into the circle of material (pradhana), until finally becoming material itself. Nonetheless, this materialization cannot merely be understood as the process with the ultimate goal of materialism, but implicitly of humanization since the human (manusa) comes as the ultimate accumulation of all the philosophical categories. The term related to the materialization must be taken as the process of humanization or making the spirit humanized; the humanism take the middle position between the spiritualism and the materialism in Aji Sangkya, the so-called Balinese Hindu modern text of philosophy.

Abstract

The object of this research is the text of Geguritan Sucita having total versesof 1,877. The problem observed is that the structure, esthetic rule applied andsource of text transformation into GS as religion literature. The main objective ofthis research is to answer the three problems concerned. In addition, it has theobjective to preserve and develop geguritan literature. The benefit can be as oneof sources of knowledge in literary science, especially concerning geguritanliterature; as the consideration in making policy related to religion and Balineseculture; and also as reading material, especially for readers of geguritan literature. The theory applied in reviewing the three problems is structural, semiotic, intertext, rasa (mode) and literature reception. The data source obtained byconducting literature study, observation and interview. The data is the analyzedfrom literature and religion point of view. The research novelties are as follows :GS is gita puja of Ida Ketut Jlantik (1905-1961) which is offered to GodAlmighty. As worshipped song, GS is sekar. The materials are quoted fromclassical works of prior Hindu which is then arranged in accordance with idealismof writers kawi-wiku by considering rule of k?vya.GS is established using Balinese language Kepara enriched withvocabularies of Old Javanese so it has Hindu esthetic. Formal structure of GS isestablished according to geguritan : padalingsa matrix. The text consists of 1,877rhythm, 11 rhyme and 57 melodies. Sinom rhythm as the idol one to lead otherrhythm in order to s?nta rasa. Verses of GS can be grouped into two parts: 4rhythm manggala and) 1,873 narrative rhythm. Totally, formal structure of GSfulfills alamkara principle. the text has melody and euphony religious melody.Narrative structure GS is established following norm of tattwa purarbh?wa‘reborn cycle’, in addition it is the leader of rhythm as well as function as epilog. In term of contemplative reading level bhakti yoga, manggala is finally known asthe center text of GS.GS narration is developed according to aguron-guron rule‘having the teacher from spiritual and nyastra tradition. From matrix aguronguron,it is proposed two plots in paradox one: k?ma and tirtayatra. Plot sourceof k?ma is narrated by the existence of Sang Sucita. On the other hand, plot sourceof tirtayatra is narrated by the existence of Sang Subudi. K?ma (desire) and dilemma. Its message, if someone wish to succeed in reaching life objective, thetwo obstacles must firstly be defeated through learning process of mulat sarira byyoga : bhakti-karma-jnana- and yoga. After completion of narrating plot source oftirtayatra, it is also narrated k?ma which is developed into ahangkara. For thisreason, it is presented bad figure I Pataka to spread disaster which is in contrastwith the common rule of geguritan literature. GS narration can be understood asreading model according to narrative structure rule of k?vya. In every part ofstructure called sandhi is expressed rasa. There are nine rasa that can be enjoyedin GS. The nine rasa is inter-related and function collectively to strength the mainrasa of GS, namely s?nta rasa.Discourse of GS is established structurally like a diamond necklace: acarasusila-tatwa-yoga by narrating religious concept of syncretism idea of Siwa-Buddha. The philosophic thought is the three big schools of Hindu: dwaitawisisth?dwaita-adwaita. The source text is having a discourse of declarativeimperativeobjective. The hypogram is much read in term of searching and then tobee expanded. It can finally be said that GS is a literature of Hindu that fulfills therequisite of mah?k?vya in the domain of Sekar Alit bali.

Abstract

Kaba Gombang Patuana (abbreviated to KGP) is a Minang literary genre whichis orally presented in the form of songs. Therefore, it is known as an intonational prose. As a piece of oral literary work, KGP needs a medium of presentation. The mediumneeded is in the form of a performance known as Pertunjukan Kak Oai (PKO), whichexists at Kenagarian Air Haji, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra. Kaba GambangPatuanan tells about the socio cultural life of the community of Pesisir Selatan Regencyusing the local variety of Minangkabau language. The availability of the texts of KGP,the performance of PKO, and the collective community possessing such a literary workshows that the phenomenon of what is written and spoken about oral literary work isdifferent from the phenomenon of what is written and spoken about written literary work.Oral literary work cannot be approached from literary discipline only, but linguisticapproach and anthropological approach are also needed. The morphology of KGP is made up of stem of the story ‘batang curito’, branchof the story ‘dahan curito’ , and twig of the story ‘rantiang curito’. The batang curito(the stem of the story) is the text of GPP as a whole. The ‘Dahan Curito’ (the branch ofthe story) serves as the episodes of the story and the Ranting Curito serves as the parts ofthe episode. The functions performed by KGP are: (1) as a medium for conveying what isexpected from a king; (2) as a medium for conveying Minang tradition; (3) as a mediumfor conveying oceanic knowledge; (4) as a medium for conveying nation-lovingenthusiasm ‘chauvinism’ ; (5) as a medium for conveying henotheism towards ancestors.

Abstract

The Balinese can not be separated from their ancestral beliefs. The ancestral or idiological beliefs in Balinese society are conveyed through myths. One of the most well-known myths in Bali is the Ratu Gede myth. The myth of Ratu Gede is very trusted and believed in constructing worship rituals. The worship ritual that is routinely performed is the Nangluk Marana ritual. Nangluk Marana is a ritual handed down by the myth of Ratu Gede Nusa Penida. The myth of Ratu Gede is not limited to the figure of Ratu Gede Nusa Penida, but in Bali it also found a similar myth called the myth of Ratu Gede Tengahing Sagara. The name sagara which means the sea has shown its identity as the ruler of the ocean. The myth of Ratu Gede Tengahing Sagara as the ruler of the ocean is not only being told on the coast, but also spread out to the highlands. The idiological influence of Ratu Gede Tengahing Sagara's myth to the highlands cannot be separated from the intertwining of stories handed down from generation to generation. The intertwining that can be seen in the form of Ratu Gede Tengahing Sagara's sacred route is always related to water civilization.
