Abstract

This research aims to describe the ability of mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) to reduce styrofoam waste by observing the decrease in styrofoam weight and survival rate over one week. The method used is an experiment with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments (P0, P50, P100, P150) and 4 replications. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research stages include container preparation, larvae, stocking, feeding, and maintenance. The results show that the weight loss of styrofoam occurred at P50 (18.5%), P100 (22.75%), and P150 (36%). Meanwhile, the control group (P0) only experienced a weight loss of 1.5%. This indicates that the greater the number of T. molitor, the greater the weight loss of styrofoam. The highest survival rate for T. molitor was observed at P50, with a decrease in numbers of only 12.5%. At P150, the decrease was 16.8%, and at P100, it was 28.75%. This decrease is suspected to be caused by competition among T. molitor, population density, and a lack of nutrients despite the addition of supplementary feed. Based on the analysis of the results, it can be concluded that T. molitor is capable of reducing styrofoam waste, with the highest survival rate in the P50 group.

Abstract

Pengukuran dilakukan setiap 7 hari sekali selama empat pekan.

Abstract

The Amorphophallus flower is one of the Endangered species, so there needs to be an effort to preserve breeding with a fast time, namely artificial vegetative. In addition, the a need for a growth hormone to accelerate the growth process so that the number is not extinct, namely growth regulators (ZPT). The purpose of this study was to breed A. titanum vegetatively supported with growth regulators (ZPT) to improve quality and growth rates. The method used is a completely randomized design (CRD), which is divided into 4 treatments namely A (coconut water), B (shallots), C (bamboo shoots), and D (control) with a total of 4 replications so that in this study there were 16 plants (polybags). The results showed that the natural growth regulator treatment of shallot extract gave the best results in the parameter of the number of shoots, while coconut water extract gave the best results in the parameters of shoot length and growth time. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the use of natural growth regulators from coconut water, shallots, and bamboo shoots affects the growth rate of Amorphophallus titanum.

Abstract

Waste from male banana peels (Musa paradisiaca Var. Paradisiaca), Ambon banana peels (Musa paradisiaca Var. Sapientum), and kepok banana peels (Musa acuminate L.) can be used as natural water filtration. The content of pectin, galacturonic acid and cellulose in banana peels can absorb heavy metals in water. This research aims to determine the filtration ability of natural waste materials such as kepok banana peels, Ambon banana peels and male banana peels which are most effectively used as water filtration media. This research consists of the sample preparation stage, carbonization stage, activation stage, and trial stage. The method used is an experimental method on a laboratory scale to measure Potential Hydrogen (pH), Total Dissolve Solid (TDS), and the level of clarity in water. The data obtained was tested using the Anova test with a significance level of 5% and the BNT test. Based on the BNT test which shows that male banana peels are not significantly proportional to the TDS of well water. Meanwhile, Ambon banana peel and Kepok banana peel are significantly proportional to TDS, and for Kepok banana peel, Ambon banana peel and male banana peel, it is significantly proportional to the pH of well water, because the significance results are less than 0.05%. From these findings it can be concluded that Kepok banana peels and Ambon banana peels are the most effective water filtration media to use.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of providing a combination of snails and coconut dregs as feed on the growth and protein content of Black soldier Fly (BSF) maggots. The method used is an experiment with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of five treatments and three replications. The treatments consist of: P1 (100% snails), P2 (75% snails: 25% coconut dregs), P3 (50%: 50%), P4 (25%: 75%), and P5 (100% coconut dregs). Maggot maintenance was carried out for 14 days with feeding carried out every 2 days in the morning at 10:00. The research data observed included Weight, Thickness, Length which were analyzed statistically using the ANOVA test and the test was continued with the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test, and the Kruskal wallis test if the data was not normal, temperature and humidity, Feed consumption, Specific growth rate (SGR), Waste reduction index (WRI), and Protein content and water content were analyzed using the automatic kjeldahl test. The results of the study showed that the provision of snail and coconut dregs feed had a very significant effect on the growth of maggots (P <0.05) both in weight and thickness, but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the growth of maggot length. Treatment P1 (100% snail) gave the best results with an average weight of 0.09 g, a length of 13.4 mm, and the highest protein content of 27.49%. Treatment P5 (100% coconut dregs) showed the lowest results in all main parameters. It was concluded that snail feed was more optimal in supporting the growth and protein content of BSF maggots. The high animal protein content and soft texture are the main reasons, which show the potential of snails as a highly nutritious alternative feed for BSF maggot cultivation.
