Abstract

Mangrove forests have immense potential for carbon sequestration as they can absorb carbon emissions 3-5 times more effectively than terrestrial tropical forests. This study aimed to determine the organic carbon storage value of the mangrove forest in Teluk Gilimanuk during September-November 2023. The research utilized a transect quadrat method with dimensions of 10 m x 10 m established in identified vegetation zones. Data on tree carbon storage were analyzed using allometric methods, while sediment samples were analyzed in the laboratory using gravimetric methods. Based on the research findings, six main vegetation zones were identified: Sonneratia, Ceriops, Bruguiera, Avicennia, Rhizophora, and Lumnitzera. The highest carbon storage value for the Teluk Gilimanuk mangrove above ground as found in the Ceriops vegetation zone at 66.03±17.66 tons/ha, whereas the lowest above ground storage was observed in the Bruguiera zone at 18.60±11.88 tons/ha. Regarding below ground carbon storage, the highest value was recorded in the Rhizophora vegetation zone at 44.00±32.57 tons/ha, while the lowest was in the Lumnitzera zone at 13.73±2.41 tons/ha. The Sonneratia vegetation zone exhibited the highest organic sediment carbon storage at 237.51±46.31 tons/ha, whereas the lowest was found in the Avicennia zone at 55,3678.28± tons/ha. The total carbon storage in the Teluk Gilimanuk mangrove forest was calculated at 193.91 tons/ha.

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem of Benoa Bay is an estuarine area that plays a significant role in providing food sources for various types of biota, both aquatic and terrestrial. In addition, mangrove ecosystems are also greatly influenced by human activities such as development in mangrove areas and environmental pollution, which indirectly affect the presence of biota in those mangrove ecosystems. The purpose of this research is to understand the fish community structure and water conditions in the mangrove ecosystem of Benoa Bay. This research was conducted in October – November 2023 at 4 stations with 2 repetitions at each station. Fish sampling using gill nets with a mesh size of 2 inches.  The fish catch results in the Teluk Benoa mangrove ecosystem consist of 8 families and 10 species. Station II has the highest fish abundance among the other stations, with 8 species, while the lowest fish abundance is found at Station III, with 5 species. The fish species most commonly found in Benoa Bay is Leiognathus equulus or Cotek Fish, with a total of 188 individuals. Meanwhile, the fish species with the least number are Tripoddichthys blochii and Lobotes surinamensis, with only 1 individual each.

Abstract

This research aims to assess the room redevelopment project at Villa Kayu Raja, focusing on enhancing room quality and increasing occupancy rates and design an applicable model for redevelopment projects in similar hospitality setting. The study employs a Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) based approach (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing) supported by theories in Project Success Criteria and Room Occupancy. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, the data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews with eight key informants from the Heads of Department (HOD), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving six operational department heads, and comprehensive document studies. The room redevelopment project at Villa Kayu Raja was implemented using the PMBOK process cycle and driven by both internal inputs from the MOD checklist and external guest feedback. The redevelopment significantly improved room quality and the overall guest experience. Key enhancements included modernized furnishings, upgraded bathroom facilities, improved lighting, and the incorporation of aesthetic design elements, all of which contributed to more positive guest perceptions. Operational benefits were also observed, including increased maintenance efficiency, more streamlined housekeeping processes, and a reduction in guest complaints. Occupancy data analysis indicated a notable post project increase of 93.92%, particularly among Free Independent Travellers (FITs), highlighting a strong correlation between room upgrades and market appeal. Furthermore, guest reviews across major Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) reflected higher ratings and frequent mentions of comfort, cleanliness, and interior design as standout features following the redevelopment. These findings support the application of an operational management cycle model in similar redevelopment initiatives. This study contributes and provide practical insights and valuable applied knowledge to the field of hospitality industry, particularly on how strategic room redevelopment projects enhance room quality and increase occupancy rates in similar villa properties.
