Abstract

The acidity (pH) is an important factor in bacterial growth, this affects the high and low density of the bacteria produced. The minimum and maximum pH values for bacterial growth are generally 4-9, but the optimal pH ranges from 6.5-7.5. This research aims to determine the effect of pH on the growth of hexavalent chromium or Cr(VI) tolerant bacterial isolates from mangrove sediments in Muara Tukad Mati. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Fisheries, Faculty of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Udayana University in March 2021. The method used in the research was the experimental method by giving four different pH treatments, namely pH 3, 5, 7, and 9. The stages of the study included preparation of the research sample, creation of growth media, preparation of inoculum, and measurement of growth of bacterial isolates, then analyzed descriptively in the form of pictures and graphics. It is known that the five bacterial isolates can grow well in a pH range of 5-7. Bacterial isolate A reached the optimal value at pH 7, while bacterial isolate B, C, D, and E reached the optimal value in the pH range 5-7. Based on the range of pH values in the growth media, the five bacterial isolates were included as acidophilic microbes that were able to live at pH 5 and mesophilic microbes that were able to live at pH 5.5-8.0.

Abstract

Lake Toba, one of the largest lakes in Indonesia, is located in the province of North Sumatera, which has a significant tourism sector. Increased human activity can place the aquatic ecosystem of Lake Toba under great ecological pressure. Total Suspended Solids (TSS) are an important water quality indicator. Various human activities are carried out on Lake Toba, including fish farming in floating net cages (KJA), tourism, and water transportation. This activity produces organic and inorganic substances that have the potential to reduce water quality. Based on the research results, the concentration of total suspended solids (TSS) at five sampling locations exceeded class II water quality standards. The TSS concentration has different variations from the other 4 water sampling points because the 4 water sampling points are not passed by shipping lanes. The large TSS values at the 5 water sampling points can be caused by domestic waste generated from port activities, water transportation, tourism activities, hotels, and offices.

Abstract

Coral transplantation is one of the efforts to rehabilitate a damaged coral reefs. The successful growth of transplantation is influenced by water quality. This study aims to determine the relation between water quality parameters and the growth rates of Acropora sp. transplantation in Geger Beach. This research was conducted for 3 months during February until Aprils 2022, carried out in every 2 weeks at difference point. The observations was measuring length, width, high, and the increased of total corals fragment. The results showed the averages of length growth rate is 1.39 mm/2 weeks on each points. While the high growth rate on point 1 and 2 had a 0.14 mm/2 weeks different high, and each point had a values of 0.61 mm/2 weeks and 0.76 mm/2 weeks. On the width growth rate, each of point had a values of 2.06 mm/2 weeks and 1.50 mm/2 weeks, with 0.56 mm/2 weeks difference. The average of increased total corals fragment has the same growth, with 2 fragment at each point. The quality of waters in Geger Beach supported the growth of coral transplantation with temperatures ranging from 29.50-29.60 °C, brightness of 100%, depth of 0.97-1.1 m, currents of 0.16-0.18 m/s, salinity of 33.33-33.16‰, pH of 7.80-7.87, and DO of 6.27-6.29 mg/l. The results of Pearson’s test showed that waters parameters have correlations and significant relationship with the growth rates of Acropora sp., with all the values of signification is more than 0.05.

Abstract

This article is about the analisis of the Pasatan Temple trekking in order to propose it as a tourist trekking. In fact, Politeknik Negeri Bali wishes to develop a program package for international students to discover the village of Pohsanten, Jembrana in Bali, Indonesia. This activity should provide an opportunity for international tourists to discover the west of Bali, which is poorly promoted in tourism. Indeed, there is an exceptional natural heritage (fauna, flora, waterfalls, mountains) but also an authentic cultural heritage through the discovery of the Pasatan temple. The research method mainly used to analyse this trekking is the qualitative method. Indeed, with more than 5 participants, an interview was carried out inquiring the 9 tourism attraction aspects. The aspects of a tourism attraction are based on the aspects on duration, timing, variety of tourist attraction, the strength of the attraction theme, product delivery (guide & component), food & beverage, transportation, organizing program package, and price. Hence, the research method will not only be qualitative but also quantitative to measure the satisfaction index. The results shows that participants are satisfied with the Pasatan temple trekking and that is possible to market this activity as a tourist attraction and offer it in the program package for international students. It is expected that the results of the study could assist the Pohsanten village in developing rural tourism and be used as a reference for tourist professionnals.

Abstract

Macro debris refers to waste materials ranging in size from 2.5 cm to 1 m, commonly found both on the water's surface and on the seabed. The accumulation of such large debris in coastal and marine environments can lead to various consequences, including disturbances to ecosystem stability and threats to the survival of organisms. Additionally, it diminishes the aesthetic quality of the environment. Among the ecosystems most susceptible to becoming repositories for this waste is the mangrove ecosystem. This study aims to quantify the amount, types, and abundance of macro debris scattered in the Tukad Mati Estuary Mangrove Area, Badung Regency, Bali. The research methodology involved several steps, starting with the selection of research stations. Transects measuring 5 x 5 meters were established. Within these designated areas, samples of macro debris were collected and categorized according to their composition, including materials such as plastic, fabric, glass, metal, and rubber. The results revealed that the total mass of macro debris collected in the Tukad Mati Estuary area amounted to 42,630 grams. The types of macro debris found in the Tukad Mati Estuary mangrove ecosystem consist of plastic, fabric, glass, metal, and rubber. Based on their quantity, the composition of macro debris is dominated by plastic at 87.02%, followed by fabric at 4.24%, rubber at 4.17%, glass at 2.67%, and metal being the least at 1.89%. Based on their weight, the composition of macro debris is highest for plastic at 32.33%, followed by rubber at 27.29%, fabric at 20.23%, glass at 14.36%, and metal being the lowest at 5.78%.
