Abstract

Pollution is one of the important issues faced by marine resources including zooxanthellae, which is known to be very sensitive to environmental changes. Some pollutants have been reported to have adverse effects on zooxanthellae, however, their sensitivity in regards to changes on cell size of these algae has not been widely explored. This study examined the effects of pollutants on the sensitivity of zooxanthellae through changes in size. Zooxanthellae were isolated from corals Porites lutea, Acropora aspera, and Montipora digitata collected from Panjang Island, Jepara, Indonesia. These algae were exposed to pollutants i.e. heavy metals (Cu, Cd, Pb) and nutrients (ammonium and phosphate) at concentrations of 5,10,15 ppb and 5,10,15 μM, respectively. Zooxanthellae size were measured five hours after pollutants exposure. The results showed that all treatments reduced the size of zooxanthellae. Algae isolated from P. lutea are the least affected by pollutants and the highest percentage cell size reduction was found in phosphate treatment. However, reduction on the size of algae were not statistically significant. These results indicate that in relation to reduction in the size, zooxanthellae are not sensitive to pollutants. Keywords: Zooxanthellae, pollutants, sensitivity, size reduction

Abstract

Teluk Benoa merupakan tempat bermuaranya beberapa sungai dan terdapat berbagai kegiatan seperti kegiatan industri, perdagangan, dan pariwisata yang berpotensi menyebabkan terjadinya pencemaran di kawasan tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi parameter fisika dan kimia perairan Teluk Benoa. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan sebanyak 2 kali pada 5 titik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat beberapa parameter yang melebihi baku mutu yaitu kekeruhan, TSS, fospat, dan nitrat.

Abstract

Desa wisata Sanda memiliki potensi keladi/talas yang sangat banyak, hampir di setiap kebun penduduk tumbuh tanaman ini baik secara liar maupun telah dibudidayakan. Awalnya tanaman ini dianggap sebagai gulma yang mengganggu tanaman lain, sehingga sering dirabas untuk pakan ternak (babi) dengan terbentuknya kelompok wanita tani (kwt) keladi mulai dibudidayakan menjadi keripik dengan menggunakan alat yang sangatsederhana. Hasilnya ukuran atau ketebalan kripik tidak sama, rasanya belum bervariasi hanya rasa original saja. Untuk memberdayakan masyarakat dalam pengolahan keladi menjadi keripik diberikan pelatihan. Pelatihan yang baik bukan hanya perlu dirancang dengan baik, namun juga perlu dievaluasi efektivitasnya untuk memastikan tercapainya tujuan. Jadi tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi pelatihan yang diberikan apakah disukai oleh peserta dan bisa meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kemampuan peserta. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut disebarkan angket kepada peserta sebanyak 20 orang, dari data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis dengan model kirpatrck dan menggunakan analisis statistik beda dua rata-rata berpasangan (paired sample t test) dari analisis tersebut diperoleh hasil bahwa peserta sangat tertarik terhadap program pelatihan sangat baik sekali dan pelatihan yang dilakukan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kemampuan peserta dalam membuat keripik keladi dengan rasa yanglebih bervariasi. Kata Kunci: evaluasi, pelatihan, keladi, kreatif Sanda tourism village has the potential for taro/taro which is very much, almost every garden in the population grows these plants both wild and cultivated. Initially this plant was considered as a weed that disturbs other plants, so it is often seized for animal feed (pigs) with the formation of farmer women (kwt) taro began to be cultivated into chips using very simple tools. The result is the size or thickness of chips not the same, the taste has not varied only original taste. To empower the community in processing taro into chips, they were given training. Good training not only needs to be well designed, but also needs to be evaluated for effectiveness to ensure the achievement of objectives. So the purpose of this activity is to evaluate the training provided whether it is liked by the participants and can improve the knowledge and abilities of the participants. To achieve this goal a questionnaire was distributed to as many as 20 participants, from the data collected were analyzed with the kirpatrck model and using a statistical analysis of the difference in the two paired averages (paired sample t test) from the analysis it was found that the participants were very interested in the training program very well once and the training carried out can increase the knowledge and ability of participants in making taro chips with a more varied taste. Abstract

Benoa Bay is one of the water areas with a fairly complex activity, ranging from benoa port activities, watersports tours, as well as activities from residential areas. The activity is thought to contribute to the pollution of marine debris on the bay of Benoa. The purpose of this study is to determine the type and abundance of microplastic contained in the waters of Benoa Bay, Bali. This study was conducted from March to May 2018. Microplastic sampling in water using 200 µm plankton net which was withdrawn for 10 minutes. Method microplastic sampling in sediments using a shovel. The results showed that there are 3 types of microplastic found in water and sediment of Benoa Bay waters are fragment, film, and fiber. The highest microplastic type in the waters comes from the type of fragment with an abundance of 0.26 particles / m³ found at station 3. The highest total microplastic abundance in the waters is present at station 3 with an abundance of 0.58 particles / m³. The highest microplastic type in the sediment comes from the type of fragment with an abundance of 57 particles / kg found at station 1. The highest total microplastic in the sediment abundance is present at station 1 with an abundance of 114 particles / kg.

Abstract

This study aimed to know the difference of total bacterial number on the sediment of rehabilitation and natural mangrove ecosystem in the Desa Perancak, Jembrana, Bali. Sediment sampling was carried out in November 2019. The sediment sampling was carried out at two different sites, 3 station from the rehabilitation mangrove zone and 3 station from natural mengrove zone. Total bacterial number in the sediment was enumerated using Total Plate Count Method, pH was measured using pH meter, and dissolved solid was measured using TDS meter. The result showed that there was no bog difference in the bacterial amount between rehabilitation and natural mangrove ecosystem. The total dissolved solid in the rehabilitation mangrove was higher than that in the natural mangrove. The pH of sediment in the rehabilitation mangrove was lower than that in the natural mangrove. This result indicate that there is difference in the species community in both mangrove ecosystems.

Abstract

Pantai Karang merupakan pantai yang cukup padat dikunjungi wisatawan. Untuk menjaga kelestarian pantai ini penting untuk dilakukan monitoring, salah satunya yaitu dengan menjaga kondisi perairan ini agar tetap stabil. Di pantai ini selain menjadi tempat rekreasi juga terdapat lokasi pemberhentian boat yang diduga menjadi sumber pencemaran logam berat. Kandungan logam berat di suatu perairan dapat diketahui dari beberapa komponen diantaranya air, biota dan sedimen. Logam berat pada sedimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan di air, hal ini dikarenakan logam berat dalam jangka waktu tertentu akan mengalami pengendapan. Logam berat di suatu perairan juga dipengaruhi oleh parameter kualitas air diantaranya pH dan salinitas. Semakin tinggi pH dan salinitas maka perairan tersebut akan bersifat basa sehingga hal tersebut dapat berpengaruh terhadap kelarutan logam berat pada sedimen. Hasil uji logam berat Pb pada sedimen di perairan Pantai Karang berkisar antara 1,360 mg/kg hingga 7,148 mg/kg. Hasil pengukuran salinitas pada perairan Pantai Karang berkisar antara 30,3-31,6 ppt, sedangkan hasil pengukuran pH menunjukkan pH di perairan ini berkisar antara 8,0-8,2.

Abstract

Semawang beach and Samuh beach are located in the area of Sanur and ITDC Nusa Dua, Bali. This study aims to find out abundance, diversity, domination, natural growth of starfish, and to know the physical and chemical conditions of waters. The method used was descriptive quantitative method. The highest total abundance in sub station 1 was 0,0045 ind/m2 (Semawang beach), diversity index ranged from 0,86 to 1,06 and the dominance index ranged from 0,45 to 0,5. The highest total abundance in sub station 1 was 0,118 ind/m2 (Samuh beach), diversity index ranged from 1,32 to 1,92 and dominance index ranged from 0,21-0,4. The long range of arms (R), radius of disc (r), and weight (W) of the starfish found on Semawang beach and the Samuh beach was R: 5,9-13,6 cm, r: 0,9-7,8 cm, W: 15,6-1896,6 gr, and R: 3,6-11,6 cm, r: 0,5-7,9 cm, W: 6,3-1835,9 gr. The equation of arms length relation and weight and the relation of radius of disc and weight with the highest R2 value at Semawang Beach is found in the Pentaster obtusatus species W = 0,1738L2,8214 and 70% W = 11,9780L1,7876. The equation of arms length relation and weight and the relation of radius of disc and weight with the highest R2 value at Samuh beach is found in species Linckia guildingi W = 2,9166L0,6170 and W = 9,2138L0,5169. The measurement result water quality parameters in Semawang beach waters ranges from 29-30°C (temperature), 5,5-5,7mg/L (DO), 30,5-31,5 ppt (salinity), and 8,2-8,5 (pH), while in Samuh beach waters of ranges 28-28,5°C (temperature), 5,5 mg/L (DO), 30-30,8 ppt (salinity), and 7,7 (pH).

Abstract

The prospect of developing freshwater fish farming development in Indonesia has been promising. One of the freshwater fish commodities that has a high economic value and market demand is tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). This research aims to determine the optimal sex ratio for tilapia broodstock to produce the best quantity and quality of tilapia larvae. The research was conducted in December 2019 to February 2020 at Unit Pelaksana Teknis (UPT) Pasar Benih Ikan dan Balai Benih Ikan Denpasar. The method use is an experimental with complete random design with 3 treatments and 3 replicates. The sex ratio for this research was a ratio between males and females of 1:2, 1:3, 1:4. Observed parameters were fish larvae quantity, absolute weight and length tilapian larvae, survival rate tilapia larvae and water quality. The results of this research showed that sex ratio of tilapia has a significant effect (P < 0,05) on the quantity of tilapia larvae, with the highest quantity was obtained from the treatment B (sex ratio of 1:3) about 1305±393 individu, but the quality of the tilapia larvae e.g. absolute weight, length and survival rate were not significantly influenced by sex ratio of tilapia broodstock (P > 0,05). Water quality parameter including temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO) and potential of hydrogen (pH) were still at a range that supports tilapia life during the research period. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari 2018 di Pulau Pasir Putih Desa Sumberkima, Kabupaten Buleleng, Provinsi Bali. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengamati dan menganalisis kondisi terumbu karang berdasarkan persentase tutupan dan nilai indeks keanekaragaman. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode survei dengan menggunakan transek garis menyinggung (LIT). Lokasi pengamatan terdiri dari 2 stasiun. Pengamatan di masingmasing stasiun dilakukan pada kedalaman 3 meter dan 7 meter. Tipe terumbu karang yang ada di Pulau Pasir Putih Desa Sumberkima, Kabupaten Buleleng, Provinsi Bali. Bentuk pertumbuhan terumbu karang yang dijumpai pada daerah penelitian adalah Acropora Branching (ACB), Acropora Encrusting (ACE), Acropora Submassive (ACS), Acropora Digitate (ACD), Acropora Tabulate (ACT), Coral Branching (CB), Coral Massive (CM), Coral Encrusting (CME), Coral Submassive (CS), Coral Foliose (CF), Coral Meliopora (CME), Coral Heliopora (CHL) dan Coral Mushroom (CMR). Kondisi terumbu karang di Pulau Pasir Putih tergolong dalam kategori sedang hingga baik. Persentase tutupan karang pada staiun 1 di kedalaman 3 m sebesar 72.84% (baik), dan di kedalaman 7 m sebesar 26.29% (sedang). Pada staiun 2 di kedalaman 3 meter memiliki nilai persentase tutupan karang sebesar 47.52% dan di kedalaman 7 meter sebesar 53.39% yang sama-sama dikategorikan tutupan karang sedang

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the condition of reef fish communities and fish behavior at coral genus Acropora. Data retrieval was done in 3 observation points. The observations was done by stationary visual sensus method. The observations were made as 3 times during 3 months. The result of data collected on 3 observation points obtained 35 species. Diversity category in 3 locations tend to be moderated, the value was range of 2.20 to 2.75 related to the value of dominance indexs, was range of 0.07 to 0.14. The value of similarity indexs (E) was range of 0.89 to 0,99 indicated a stable reef fish community. Based on observations of the behavior of fish in the community at each fish station had solitary and schooling behavior. Fish swimming habits generally swim above, below, or beside the reef. But also observed several types of fish that have a habit of swimming in crevices of coral which was the fish family of Pomacentridae. As for feeding habits, fish which were observed had an eating activities swimming toward their food. The results of measurements of current speed range from 0.37 to 1.20 m/s, the visibility was reached to the bottom of the water, turbidity 1.30-1.40 NTU, temperature 29.33-29.67°C, Depth 4.2-13.7 m, and the range of salinity values were 30.00-31.67‰. This value was still in accordance with the standard quality of sea water for marine biota. This was in accordance with the quality standard value of Bali Governor Regulation No.16 Year 2016.
