Abstract

Air merupakan sumber daya vital yang berperan penting dalam kehidupan masyarakat dan dijamin pengelolaannya oleh negara. Namun, masih rendahnya pemahaman masyarakat terhadap hukum sumber daya air serta pentingnya konservasi lingkungan menjadi tantangan tersendiri. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan pada 04 Februari 2023 di Dusun Tanjung Bunga, Desa Garunggang, Kecamatan Kuala, Kabupaten Langkat dengan tujuan meningkatkan literasi hukum dan mendorong partisipasi masyarakat dalam konservasi sumber daya air. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan edukatif-partisipatif melalui penyuluhan hukum dan penanaman 1.000 pohon. Evaluasi dilakukan terhadap 300 responden menggunakan pre-test dan post-test. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan rata-rata skor dari 61,4 menjadi 81,7 atau naik sebesar 20,3 poin (33,05%). Kategori pemahaman rendah menurun dari 44% menjadi 8%, sementara kategori baik dan sangat baik meningkat menjadi 72%. Selain peningkatan pengetahuan, kegiatan ini juga menghasilkan aksi nyata konservasi melalui penanaman pohon sebagai bentuk implementasi preventif penegakan hukum lingkungan. Kegiatan ini membuktikan bahwa edukasi hukum yang dipadukan dengan aksi konservasi mampu menumbuhkan kesadaran kolektif dan komitmen masyarakat dalam menjaga keberlanjutan sumber daya air.

Abstract

Abstrak: Peningkatan jumlah penduduk menyebabkan akumulasi sampah organik yang berpotensi menimbulkan permasalahan lingkungan apabila tidak dikelola dengan baik. Sejalan dengan penerapan ekonomi sirkular, sektor pertanian memiliki peluang untuk mengintegrasikan pengelolaan limbah dengan peningkatan ketahanan pangan dan pendapatan masyarakat. Mitra Kegiatan pengabdian yakni Ibu-ibu PKK Desa Pantai Labu Baru., Kecamatan Pantai Labu, Kabupaten Deli Serdang .[As1.1][SS1.2] Programrogram bertujuan mengoptimalkan penggunaan sumber daya melalui pelatihan pengelolaan limbah rumah tangga berbasis maggot, pemanfaatan pupuk kasgot, pakan ternak serta budidaya sayuran pekarangan. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penyuluhan, pelatihan, dan pendampingan terhadap mitra yakni Ibu anggota PKK Desa Pantau Labu Barumasyarakat[As2.1][SS2.2] yang berjumlah 35 orang.. Indikator dari keberhasilan program ini yakni peserta dapat menerapkan pengelolaan sampah organik dengan bantuan maggot, selanjutnya peserta memanfaatkan pekarangan rumah dengan membudidayakan berbagai jenis sayuran dan budidaya ternak dari hasil kasgot dan pakan ternak dari limbah dari maggot. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan secara keseluruhan, hasil perbandingan pre-test dan post-test menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata peningkatan pemahaman dan sikap peserta pada seluruh indikator mencapai sekitar 63%, yang mengindikasikan efektivitas kegiatan dalam meningkatkan kapasitas peserta terkait pengelolaan limbah, budidaya maggot, dan pemanfaatan pekarangan.Abstract: The increase in population has led to the accumulation of organic waste, which may cause environmental problems if not properly managed. In line with the implementation of the circular economy concept, the agricultural sector offers opportunities to integrate waste management with improvements in household food security and community income. The community service partner in this program was the PKK group of Pantai Labu Baru Village, Pantai Labu Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency. The program aimed to optimize resource utilization through training on maggot-based household waste management, the use of frass (kasgot) as organic fertilizer, animal feed production, and home-yard vegetable cultivation. The methods employed included socialization, training, and community mentoring. The results indicate that the comparison of pre-test and post-test scores shows an average improvement of approximately 63% in participants’ knowledge and attitudes across all indicators, demonstrating the effectiveness of the program in enhancing participants’ capacity in waste management, maggot cultivation, and productive yard utilization.

Abstract

Coffee is one of the leading commodities in the plantation subsector in North Sumatra which has good market opportunities both domestically and abroad. Especially in the Lake Toba area, apart from the PBKo pest, it turns out that attacks by the coffee leaf sucking pest Helopeltis sp. are also felt to be very important by farmers, because the presence of Helopeltis sp. This causes the coffee leaf shoots to develop brown spots, curl and eventually dry out and die (die back). The aim of the research was to study the symptoms of attacks and the intensity of Helopeltis sp. attacks on Arabica coffee plants in the Lake Toba area, North Tapanuli Regency. This research was carried out on people's coffee plantations in North Tapanuli Regency at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, from February to June 2023. On the Sigarar Utang variety Arabica coffee plantation with monoculture and polyculture planting patterns. The sample plants were determined to be 10% of the total plants at each observation location. Sampling of plant samples is determined using a zig zag line. The parameters observed were the intensity of attacks and the percentage of pest attacks. The results obtained by Helopeltis sp. sucking shoot pests have been known to attack coffee plants in North Tapanuli Regency with symptoms of attack. At the start of the attack, leaf spots are visible, brown, curly and eventually dry out, die back, then grow rosettes, namely shoots, new ones that are shortened tightly and do not develop. The intensity of attacks by Helopeltis sp. on smallholder coffee plantations in North Tapanuli Regency is quite varied, from light to heavy attacks with the intensity of shoot attacks ranging from 15.67% to 57.80%. Monoculture coffee plantations with protective plants, but no pruning, are locations with Helopeltis sp. attack levels in the heavy category with shoot attack intensity reaching 56.66%. The intercropping coffee plant cultivation system (polyculture) had a significant influence on the low intensity of Helopeltis sp. attacks, where tcount (8.921) > ttable (2.306).

Abstract

Soil health is a crucial factor in the sustainability of Arabica coffee production, particularly in addressing the challenges of land degradation caused by conventional agricultural practices. One practical approach to naturally enhance soil fertility is implementing a regenerative farming system, which focuses on increasing the diversity of soil microbes to support a healthy and productive ecosystem. This study aims to analyze and compare the diversity of soil microbes in Arabica coffee fields managed under regenerative farming systems versus those under conventional farming systems. It will identify the dominant types of microbes in each system and examine how their presence influences soil fertility. Additionally, the study will assess the impact of regenerative farming on the balance of the soil microbial ecosystem and the health of coffee plants. The methodology employed is comparative, involving soil sampling through random sampling techniques. Microbial diversity will be analyzed using culture methods, with soil microbial observation parameters including bacteria, fungi, phosphorus-solubilizing bacteria, nitrogen-fixing bacteria, respiration rates, and the carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio. Laboratory data will be analyzed using comparative statistical tests, specifically the t-test. The study aimed to identify microbial distribution patterns using PCA-Bi Plot analysis. The results indicated that the total number of bacteria, fungi, total microbes, and soil respiration rates were significantly higher in the regenerative farming system than in the conventional system. The dominant soil microbes in the regenerative farming system included nitrogen (N) fixing bacteria and decomposer fungi. A strong positive correlation (r = 0.938, p < 0.01) was observed between total microbes and soil respiration. The regenerative farming system not only increases the number of soil microbes but also enhances the biological activity of the soil. These findings underscore the potential of regenerative agriculture as a viable alternative for improving soil quality in Coffea arabica cultivation, aligning ecological benefits with agricultural productivity.
