Abstract

This study aims to identify students' entrepreneurial intentions at universities in Medan City. This research was conducted due to the issue of unemployment caused by the skill competencies of agribusiness graduates, the generally low interest among students in creating job opportunities, and the declining enthusiasm for entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector. This study employed a survey method with a research population consisting of 920 agribusiness students from the Faculty of Agriculture in Medan City, spread across three universities: UMA, UMSU, and USU. The sample for this study consisted of 90 students from the three universities. The results show that students' entrepreneurial intentions, particularly at universities in Medan City, demonstrate a high level of interest; however, there is a need for accelerated learning and hands-on practice in entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurial intention in Indonesia, especially at universities in Medan City, falls into the high category. The higher the personal values and personalities aligned with entrepreneurship among students, the higher their level of entrepreneurial intention. This indicates that the students' entrepreneurial intentions reflect a positive response toward entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Parmarion martensi is a major pest of cabbage crops, causing damage that reduces both quality and market value. The use of botanical pesticides as an alternative control method has not been widely studied. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of extracts from Aegle marmelos (maja fruit), Azadirachta indica (neem leaves), and Carica papaya (papaya leaves) in controlling P. martensi. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 11 treatments and 3 replications. Treatments included a negative control (A0), synthetic pesticide (A1), and plant extracts at concentrations of 20%, 25%, and 30% (A2–A10). The results showed that neem leaf extract at 30% (A7) produced the highest mortality rate, reaching 93.3% at 5 days after application (DAA), with an average feed consumption of 0.39 g/day. Probit analysis indicated an LC₅₀ of 20.3% and an LT₅₀ of 3.6 days, suggesting a strong toxic effect. These findings indicate that neem leaf extract at 30% concentration has potential as a botanical molluscicide to replace chemical pesticides.

Abstract

Lowland rice farming is the main source of income for farmers in rural Indonesia and plays a strategic role in national food security. However, structural challenges such as high production costs, fluctuations in grain prices, and limited access to modern agricultural technology still limit improvements in farmer welfare. This study aims to analyze the level of income and cost efficiency of lowland rice farming in Tanjung Morawa District, Deli Serdang Regency. Using a quantitative descriptive approach through a case study design, primary data were collected from 46 farmers selected purposively, supported by secondary data from related agencies. Analysis techniques include calculating fixed and variable costs, revenues, and net income, complemented by an analysis of the business efficiency ratio using the Revenue/Cost (R/C) indicator. The results of the study indicate that rice farming in this area provides significant economic benefits with adequate cost efficiency, although labor and production input components are dominant burdens. These findings emphasize the importance of optimizing the allocation of production inputs and utilizing efficient agricultural technology as a strategy to increase farmer income. The main contribution of this study is to provide a relevant empirical basis for regional agricultural policy making and encourage the adoption of a data-based approach in evaluating the economic feasibility of sustainable rice farming.
