Abstract

Endophytic bacteria have the potential as environmentally friendly biocontrol agents in controlling bacterial leaf blight (BLB) in rice caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo). This study aims to isolate, characterize morphology and biochemical tests, and test the antagonistic activity of endophytic bacteria from rice against Xoo. Isolation was carried out from healthy rice root tissue using a surface sterilization method. Morphological characterization included colony shape, color, edge, elevation, and Gram properties, while biochemical characterization included catalase, oxidase, motility, starch hydrolysis, and sugar fermentation tests. The antagonistic test used a dual culture assay method on NA (nutrient agar) media. The isolation results obtained six endophytic bacterial isolates (BETP 01–06) identified as the genus Pseudomonas and Bacillus with varying colony morphological characters. Antimicrobial activity test showed two potential isolates, BETP 03 (Pseudomonas) and BETP 05 (Bacillus), with an average inhibitory diameter of 16.3 mm and 16.5 mm against Xoo, respectively. Biochemical characterization showed that BETP 03 was bacillus, Gram-negative, citrate-negative, motile, gelatin hydrolysis positive, starch hydrolysis positive, and catalase positive; while BETP 05 was bacillus, Gram-positive, citrate-positive, motile, gelatin hydrolysis negative, starch hydrolysis positive, and catalase positive. These results indicate that both isolates have high potential as biological biocontrol agents in controlling bacterial leaf blight disease in rice.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the growth response of Cordyceps militaris in several growing media, determine the best growing media for cultivating Cordyceps militaris and determine the effectiveness of cultivating Cordyceps militaris against fire caterpillar larvae (Setothosea assigna). This research was carried out using a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design method, with 3 growing media treatments, namely N1 = Bran, N2 = Rice and N3 = Corn. The number of repetition was 6. Data analysis uses Anova, where if the results showed a significant and very siognificant effect, it was continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that the growth medium had no significant effect on the density of yellow fungus and white fungus conidia, the viability of yellow fungus and white fungus condidia. The growth media of C. militaris is found in brand media, which is observed from the viability of fungus, both in yellow and white conidia, which can kill Setothosea assigna larvae which are marked in bran, rice and corn media at the age of 11-19 day after application, causing mortality between 93,34-100%,

Abstract

This study aims 1) to find out and analyze how to determine the criteria for certified seeds and 2) to find outand analyze the difference in income levels of certified cocoa seed nursery farms in North Sumatra Province. This research was conducted at seed breeders located in Deli Serdang Regency and Pematang Siantar City. This area was chosen because in these two areas there are certified cocoa seed breeders in the province of North Sumatra. The number of respondents is 5 certified seed breeders who have met several predetermined criteria. The research method used in this study was a survey method, data collection was carried out onJanuary to March 2023.The objectives of this research are answered quantitatively by using the analysis of Total Revenue, Nett Revenue, R/C Ratio and B/C Ratio. The results of the study showed that the cocoa nursery farming carried out provided benefits to all cocoa seed breeders. In the feasibility analysis it is known that the cocoa nursery farming business shows that the cocoa nursery business has received an appropriate assessment of PT. Sahabat Sejati, CV. Prince Agung, CV. Putera perkasa and CV. Dharma Nusantara but the nursery business carried out by CV. Wana Bhakti received an unworthy rating.

Abstract

The aim of this research isto analyze the income of carp farmers(Cyprinus carpio)in Deli Serdang Regency and Simalungun Regency, to analyze the comparative feasibility of goldfish farming(Cyprinus carpio)between Deli Serdang Regency and Simalungun Regency.The sampling technique in this research was carried out using provocative sampling with categories: privately owned land, land area 1.5-2 ha. to 20 farmers each. Financial analysis methods, feasibility analysis, analysis and efficient analysis with analysis of business costs, revenues and profits, break even point (BEP), R/C Ratio, B/C Ratio. The research results show that: Profits in Deliserdang Regency are averageRp.9,024,492 per harvest The marketing efficiency of carp farming in Deliserdang Regency is an average of 9.73%, so marketing is efficient.

Abstract

Agrowisata adalah upaya untuk mengoptimalkan pemanfaatan sumber daya alam di suatu wilayah yang memiliki potensi di sektor pertanian, dengan tujuan menjadikannya sebagai destinasi pariwisata. Desa Dolat Rayat adalah salah satu desa yang berpotensi sebagai temat agrowisata kebun strawberry. Namun demikian, potensi sumberdaya alam yang berbasis lingkungan, pertanian, kebergaman hayati dan kebudayaan belum dikembangkan secara optimal. Oleh karena itu, tujuan pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyarakat adalah dengan mengembangkan agrowisata berbasis bio-sosiopreneur dengan menerapkan mix farming system, pembuatan biosaka dan pupuk organic cair serta perbaikan pengemasan produk. Hasil dari kegiatan tersebut menunjukkan bahwa 50% petani responden menggunakan dan menerapkan pupuk organic cair dari pada biosaka. Serta, peningkatan jumlah kepuasan pengnjung terhadap ketersediaan barang aksesoris.  Sehingga diperlukan pengarahan dan pendampingan secara intensif untuk keberlanjutannya

Abstract

Coffee is one of the leading commodities in the plantation subsector in North Sumatra which has good market opportunities both domestically and abroad. Especially in the Lake Toba area, apart from the PBKo pest, it turns out that attacks by the coffee leaf sucking pest Helopeltis sp. are also felt to be very important by farmers, because the presence of Helopeltis sp. This causes the coffee leaf shoots to develop brown spots, curl and eventually dry out and die (die back). The aim of the research was to study the symptoms of attacks and the intensity of Helopeltis sp. attacks on Arabica coffee plants in the Lake Toba area, North Tapanuli Regency. This research was carried out on people's coffee plantations in North Tapanuli Regency at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level, from February to June 2023. On the Sigarar Utang variety Arabica coffee plantation with monoculture and polyculture planting patterns. The sample plants were determined to be 10% of the total plants at each observation location. Sampling of plant samples is determined using a zig zag line. The parameters observed were the intensity of attacks and the percentage of pest attacks. The results obtained by Helopeltis sp. sucking shoot pests have been known to attack coffee plants in North Tapanuli Regency with symptoms of attack. At the start of the attack, leaf spots are visible, brown, curly and eventually dry out, die back, then grow rosettes, namely shoots, new ones that are shortened tightly and do not develop. The intensity of attacks by Helopeltis sp. on smallholder coffee plantations in North Tapanuli Regency is quite varied, from light to heavy attacks with the intensity of shoot attacks ranging from 15.67% to 57.80%. Monoculture coffee plantations with protective plants, but no pruning, are locations with Helopeltis sp. attack levels in the heavy category with shoot attack intensity reaching 56.66%. The intercropping coffee plant cultivation system (polyculture) had a significant influence on the low intensity of Helopeltis sp. attacks, where tcount (8.921) > ttable (2.306).

Abstract

IInsect pathologists' attention to the potential of entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) as inducers of plant resistance has increased in recent years. Several types of EPF that have received attention as biocontrol agents for insect pest populations include Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae and Trichoderma sp. because they are able to infect and kill insects directly, has a wide host range, and has been used to control various types of insect pests. Apart from being able to infect and kill insect pests, EPF can also live endophytically in plant tissue and increase plant resistance to pest attacks. The presence of EPF as endophytes is able to induce plant resistance by stimulating an increase phytohormones production. In this article, we reviewed the role of fungi as entomopathogens, the characteristics of entomopathogenic fungi, and their role as inducers of plant resistance. The review was carried out by collecting information  from original articles and related reports which reviewed the results of research on the role of entomopathogenic fungi as plant resistance inducers by including the keywords entomopathogenic endophytic fungi, resistance induction, characterization, systemic resistance and herbivorous insects. This systematic review concludes that EPF as an inducer of plant resistance is a very promising control alternative in the development of plant protection management against insect pests.

Abstract

Masyarakat Kecamatan Silalahi dalam beberapa tahun ini dilaporkan semakin kompleks, antara lain menurunnya degradasi lahan, perubahan iklim, serta keterbatasan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam pengelolaan tanaman produktif telah berdampak pada menurunnya hasil pertanian dan kelestarian ekonomi masyarakat. Selain itu, masih rendahnya pemanfaatan lahan secara optimal dan minimnya edukasi terkait teknik penanaman serta perawatan tanaman pohon yang berkelanjutan menjadi faktor penghambat dalam pengembangan potensi daerah ini. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi praktis dan aplikatif kepada masyarakat Kecamatan Silalahi mengenai pentingnya penanaman dan perawatan tanaman pohon produktif secara tepat guna. Kegiatan PKM telah dilakukan di Kecamatan Silahisabungan, yang bertempat di komplek Tugu Makam Raja Silahisabungan, Desa Silalahi III, Kabuptaen Dairi. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang fokus pada Edukasi Penanaman dan Perawatan Tanaman Pohon Produktif di Kecamatan Silalahi, Kabupaten Dairi, telah dilaksanakan dengan baik dan memberikan dampak positif bagi sasaran masyarakat. Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan petani dalam hal budidaya tanaman pohon produktif secara tepat guna, ramah lingkungan, dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Ketersediaan pakan berkualitas menjadi tantangan utama bagi peternak sapi di Dusun I Bukit Gantung, Desa Sumber Mulyo, terutama pada musim kemarau ketika hijauan terbatas dan harga pakan komersial meningkat. Ketergantungan pada rumput dan jerami tanpa pengolahan menyebabkan rendahnya nilai nutrisi serta pertumbuhan ternak yang tidak optimal. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini bertujuan memberikan edukasi dan pelatihan kepada peternak mengenai pembuatan pakan fermentasi sebagai solusi aplikatif, murah, dan berkelanjutan. Metode pelaksanaan mencakup sosialisasi konsep fermentasi, demonstrasi teknis, dan hands-on training mulai dari pemilihan bahan, pencacahan, pencampuran dengan EM4, pengaturan kadar air, hingga pengemasan anaerob dan proses inkubasi. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test untuk mengukur peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan peserta. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan antara 40% hingga 54% pada aspek pemahaman konsep dasar, teknik pengolahan, serta kemampuan menganalisis kesalahan fermentasi. Pelatihan ini terbukti efektif dalam membangun kapasitas peternak untuk memproduksi pakan fermentasi secara mandiri, memanfaatkan limbah pertanian, dan mengurangi ketergantungan pada pakan komersial. Penerapan teknologi fermentasi diharapkan mampu meningkatkan produktivitas ternak serta mendukung praktik peternakan yang lebih efisien dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan literasi digital petani sawit di Dusun I Bukit Gantung, Desa Sumber Mulyo, melalui sosialisasi pemanfaatan Internet of Things (IoT) berbasis machine learning untuk smart agriculture dalam deteksi dini penyakit tanaman sawit. Pelatihan dirancang dalam empat tahapan, yaitu persiapan perangkat, penyampaian materi konseptual, praktik instalasi IoT, penerapan machine learning, serta pendampingan lapangan. Evaluasi dilakukan menggunakan pre-test dan post-test untuk mengukur perubahan kompetensi peserta terhadap konsep IoT, machine learning, instalasi sensor, dan interpretasi hasil deteksi. Berdasarkan analisis, evaluasi hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan sebesar 47%, dengan kenaikan tertinggi pada keterampilan instalasi sensor dan membaca hasil aplikasi (+54%). Penerapan teknologi ini membantu petani melakukan deteksi penyakit lebih cepat dan akurat sehingga penggunaan pestisida dapat ditekan melalui penyemprotan selektif. Selain menghasilkan peningkatan kompetensi teknis, kegiatan ini meningkatkan keberterimaan teknologi di kalangan petani, terbukti dari 14 dari 15 kelompok yang secara konsisten menggunakan perangkat IoT pascapelatihan. Secara sosial, program ini mendorong perubahan perilaku kolektif menuju praktik budidaya yang lebih aman, efisien, dan berbasis data. Implementasi ini menunjukkan bahwa integrasi IoT–machine learning mampu memperkuat keberlanjutan pertanian sawit sekaligus meningkatkan kualitas pengelolaan kebun masyarakat, serta memberikan dasar penting bagi pengembangan sistem monitoring kesehatan tanaman yang lebih komprehensif dan adaptif pada skala komunitas.
