Abstract

Early childhood autonomy is a condition where children are ready to do everything without the help of other people, including being able to be left by their parents for a while, choosing their activities, being able to use the toilet but still being helped or reminded, eating and drinking by themselves. Autonomy can be formed from two factors: 1) Internal factors, including physiological and psychological conditions, and 2) External factors, including the environment, feelings of love and affection, parenting patterns in the family, life experiences and habits. Besides being cared for at home, young children are also cared for in Daycare (TPA) because their parents work. This research aims to describe the factors that influence the development of autonomy in children aged 2-3 years in daycare settings. The type of research used is qualitative, using Miles and Huberman data analysis techniques. The stages of data analysis include data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects are children aged 2-3 years who were entrusted to the TPA. The research results show that the factors that influence the development of independence in children aged 2-3 years at TPA to try it yourself in stages, fulfil feelings of love and affection, encourage children to communicate, and implement a democratic parenting style. Experiences that are influential in developing autonomy are playing and interacting experiences. In TPA, the dominant factors that influence the development of children's independence are habituation accompanied by direction from caregivers and adjusting to the child's character and mood.

Abstract

Purpose of the Study: This study explores the pivotal role of intrinsic motivation in driving the professional development of early childhood education (ECE) and kindergarten teachers, focusing on how it influences their teaching practices, adaptability, and overall job satisfaction. Methodology: A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, involving purposively selected ECE and kindergarten teachers from multiple schools. Participants had at least five years of teaching experience and demonstrated active engagement in professional skill development. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews and participatory observations and then analyzed using thematic analysis to uncover recurring patterns and insights. Main Findings: The study reveals that intrinsic motivation significantly shapes the professional growth of ECE teachers. Motivated teachers are likelier to adopt innovative teaching methods, integrate new technologies into their classrooms, and demonstrate resilience in managing challenges. They display a heightened sense of responsibility for their students’ holistic development and report greater job satisfaction. Moreover, intrinsic motivation fosters creativity and adaptability, enabling teachers to craft engaging learning experiences. This, in turn, positively impacts student outcomes, as intrinsically motivated teachers create dynamic, supportive environments that enhance student engagement and facilitate social-emotional growth. Novelty/Originality of the Study: Underexplored connection between intrinsic motivation and professional development in early childhood education. The study underscores the need for fostering intrinsic motivation in teacher training programs by linking teacher motivation to innovation, resilience, and student engagement. Furthermore, it provides actionable insights into designing interventions and policies prioritizing intrinsic drivers, contributing to sustainable teacher development and improved educational quality.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the epistemological beliefs and reflective practices of Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses a qualitative phenomenological approach with a semi-structured interview data collection method. Research participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of ECE teachers. Having at least three years of teaching experience and have taught at the Playgroup and Kindergarten levels, literate in using information technology, teach actively during the pandemic, active in self-development activities, and willing to be a research participant. There are two participants, IT and RA, who graduate from S1 level, Art Education and ECE. They teach in different schools and have teaching experience of thirteen and five years. The analysis was carried out with IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis), which resulted in the theme of the teaching process during a pandemic, teaching obstacles during a pandemic, factors that supported teaching during a pandemic, factors that hindered teaching during a pandemic, and beliefs in education during a pandemic based on their knowledge. The study results are that ECE teachers feel less confident about teaching during the pandemic because online learning is a new thing. They think that they don't have sufficient knowledge about online learning for early childhood education. They don't have the confidence to make sure that the students will understand, especially in the assessment process, which is believed to be a better face-to-face meeting.
