Abstract

This study aims to improve students' scientific literacy by applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by smart box media on environmental pollution material. This study uses a pre-experimental method with a one-group pre-test post-test design and purposive sampling. The data analysis techniques applied in this study are hypothesis testing using paired sample t-test, n-gain test, and product moment correlation. The results showed that the implementation of learning was 89.67% which was included in the very good category, paired sample t-test was 0.000. And strengthened by the n-gain test of 0.59 with a moderate category and the correlation between student learning outcomes and scientific literacy showed a significance value of 0.420 in the moderate correlation category. The conclusion of this study is that the PBL model assisted by Smart Box media has an effect on students' scientific literacy which can increase significantly from their initial level, and there is a relationship between student learning outcomes using the PBL model assisted by smart box media and scientific literacy.

Abstract

This study depends on why it's important for an examination of students' scientific identities to demonstrate that a student is scientifically capable of identifying and resolving issues in the form of natural occurrences. The purpose of this research is to determine the rise in scientific identity utilizing the guided inquiry learning model, as well as the closeness of the variable link between scientific identity and the guided inquiry learning model. This study employed a one-group pre-test and post-test design with a quantitative approach and a population or sample through purposive sampling with a sample size of 60 students. This study was conducted Turi Lamongan State Junior High School. A scientific identity questionnaire exam and a cognitive ability test were used to collect data for this investigation. In this study, N-gain was used to see a rise in the science identity questionnaire and cognitive ability tests, followed by a correlation test to establish the degree of closeness between science identity and the guided inquiry learning model. This study's findings are as follows: 1) improving scientific identity through guided inquiry learning 2) Scientific identity and the guided inquiry learning methodology are linked.

Abstract

Tsunami mitigation education often encounters significant challenges, as students struggle to grasp abstract concepts, visualize complex phenomena, and lack direct experiential learning opportunities. This research aims to develop Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media in the form of a pocketbook to address micro-learning issues among Grade VIII junior high school students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate). Participants included 25 Grade VIII female students at MMA Darul Jannah Al-Ma’wa, with data collected via expert validation sheets, pretest-posttest assessments, and student response questionnaires. Validation results categorized the media as "highly feasible" with a score of 83.25%. Effectiveness testing yielded an N-Gain value of 0.56 (moderately effective), while the paired t-test revealed a significance level of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a significant improvement between pretest and posttest scores. In conclusion, AR-based learning media effectively assists students in understanding tsunami mitigation more clearly, facilitating conceptual visualization and enhancing learning outcomes.

Abstract

Peningkatan kualitas guru merupakan elemen krusial dalam mewujudkan pendidikan berkualitas yang sejalan dengan prinsip SDGs-4. Meski demikian, banyak guru menghadapi tantangan dalam menyusun perangkat pembelajaran berbasis Kurikulum Merdeka, terutama dalam mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai keberlanjutan, inklusivitas, dan teknologi pembelajaran. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan dan pendampingan kepada guru di Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Lamongan dalam menyusun perangkat pembelajaran yang relevan dan inovatif. Metode kegiatan mencakup identifikasi kebutuhan guru, pelatihan intensif, pendampingan berkelanjutan, evaluasi, serta publikasi dan penyebarluasan hasil kegiatan. Dampak dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi guru dalam menyusun perangkat pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan Kurikulum Merdeka telah meningkat secara signifikan. Terdapat 90% guru berhasil membuat perangkat pembelajaran yang berkualitas, serta 75% guru mampu meningkatkan keterampilan teknologinya. Kegiatan ini juga menciptakan dampak jangka panjang dengan membentuk komunitas belajar guru sebagai wadah pengembangan profesional berkelanjutan dan penyebaran praktik terbaik kepada guru-guru lain di wilayah sekitar. Manfaat dari kegiatan ini tidak hanya memperkuat kapasitas guru di MAN 1 Lamongan, tetapi juga memberikan kontribusi signifikan terhadap pengembangan pendidikan berbasis SDGs-4 di tingkat lokal dan nasional.

Abstract

Argumentation is a core component of critical thinking, one of the essential 21st-century skills. However, exploring this skill remains a challenge, often due to limitations in the available assessment methods. This study aims to offer a solution by utilizing the think-aloud protocol to explore and better understand the argumentation skills of Pre-Service Science Teachers (PSTs). A total of 30 PSTs from a state university in Indonesia participated in the research. Data collection and analysis through the think-aloud protocol were conducted in several stages: procedural briefing, implementation, coding and video analysis, and data interpretation. The findings revealed that the think-aloud protocol was effective in providing deeper insights into argumentation skills and yielded more detailed and accurate data across five key components: claims, evidence, reasoning, counterarguments, and rebuttals. On average, the PSTs demonstrated beginner-level argumentation skills, with the strongest performance in the claim component and weaker results in supporting aspects. Specifically, 5 participants were categorized as proficient, 9 as advanced, 6 as intermediate, and 10 as beginners. These results highlight the need for more effective learning strategies that provide PSTs with greater opportunities to practice constructing and critiquing arguments.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of learning modules based on Socio-Scientific Issues with Problem-Based Learning (SSI-PBL) approach in improving students' scientific argumentation skills on the topic of earthquake mitigation. The research method used is Research and Development with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) involving 95 grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Maduran, Lamongan. Data collection techniques included scientific argumentation tests (pre-test and post-test), observation of student activities and learning implementation, and student response questionnaires. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively and inferentially using paired t-test, gain score and ANOVA test to measure skill improvement. The results showed a significant improvement in students' argumentation skills, with an average post-test score of 68% compared to 21% in the pre-test, as well as improvements in the indicators of claims (from 28% to 72%), use of data (15% to 65%), and preparation of rebuttal (25% to 58%). The SSI-PBL design facilitated deeper engagement by situating students in authentic, real-world contexts that required critical examination of seismic data, policy debates, and ethical considerations. These findings suggest that the SSI-PBL module is able to bridge the gap between theory and practice in disaster learning and strengthen 21st century skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and public policy literacy. Results underscore the module’s effectiveness in fostering scientific literacy, critical thinking, and policy awareness, essential for disaster-resilient communities.

Abstract

Recent declines in Indonesian students' scientific literacy, exacerbated by the post-pandemic learning loss and inadequate teaching materials, necessitate innovative instructional solutions. While contextual learning improves student engagement, the integration of the WE-ARe (Warm-up, Exploring, Argumentation, Resume) approach specifically into flood disaster mitigation modules remains underexplored in current literature. Therefore, this study aims to develop and evaluate the feasibility, instructional implementation, and effectiveness of a WE-ARe-based teaching module on students' scientific literacy. This Research and Development (R&D) study adopted the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The researchers selected 26 eighth-grade students at MTs Maslakul Huda as the research sample using a purposive sampling technique. Furthermore, the researchers collected data through expert validation questionnaires, instructional observation sheets, and scientific literacy tests. The results demonstrated high product feasibility, with validation scores from material (83.33%), media (75.00%), and language experts (85.71%) indicating strong validity. During the intervention, the instructional implementation achieved an excellent category average of 92.00%. Finally, the paired sample t-test revealed a significant improvement in students' scientific literacy (p = 0.001 < 0.05). In conclusion, the WE-ARe-based flood mitigation module provides a valid, highly implementable, and effective pedagogical tool to elevate students' scientific literacy, offering a scalable framework for disaster-resilient science education.

Abstract

Media pembelajaran tentang mitigasi bencana sangatlah terbatas dikembangkan oleh guru. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji kevalidan media pembelajaran pada desain ular tangga materi mitigasi bencana banjir di sekolah menengah pertama pada pembelajara IPA. Penelitian ini menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE dengan menggunakan dua kelas yaitu kelas uji coba pertama dan kelas uji kedua (implementasi akhir), Pada kelas pertama (uji coba) digunakan untuk mengetahui respon dari siswa dan mendapatkan perbaikan dalam penggunaan media, sedangkan kelas kedua untuk mengetahui implementasi akhir dari media pembelajaran yang dikembangkan dan mengetahui literasi siswa setelah menggunakan media. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 25 siswa pada kelas uji coba pertama dan 58 siswa pada kelas implementasi akhir. Kuesioner validasi dan tes literasi digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data, yang kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji statistik dan perangkat lunak SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media ular tangga yang dikembangkan sangat valid (90 %) dari empat validator ahli, instrumen soal literasi valid (r-hitung > r tabel), dan hasil uji sampel berpasangan menunjukkan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap literasi bencana banjir siswa (sig. 2 tailed 0.05). Desain media ular tangga dapat diaplikasikan dan dimanfaatkan dengan baik pada berbagai subjek mitigasi bencana banjir. Perlu kajian lebih lanjut untuk mengetahui hubungan antara literasi mitigasi bencana siswa dengan semangat belajar mitigasi bencana, untuk mengetahui minat siswa dalam mengenali potensi bencana di lingkungan sekitarnya.

Abstract

Sinkronisasi antara asesmen dengan kurikulum adalah aspek yang substansi dalam proses belajar mengajar. Telah dilakukan suatu pendampingan penerapan asesmen dalam implementasi suatu kurikulum. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan efektivitas dari pendampingan tersebut yang didasarkan atas capaian pemahaman, keterampilan, dan respon guru. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan secara blended (syncronous dan asyncronous) yang dibagi menjadi empat tahap, yaitu persiapan, pemaparan materi, pelatihan dan pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Efektivitas dari pendampingan tergambar dari peningkatan meningkatkan pemahaman guru IPA, yang ditandai dengan kenaikan signifikan skor rata-rata dari 43,00 menjadi 76,00 (p < 0,001). Selain itu, Peserta juga berhasil merancang dan menerapkan instrumen asesmen pada implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka. Respon peserta terhadap kegiatan juga sangat positif, dengan tingkat kepuasan mencapai di atas 90% pada hampir seluruh aspek. Dengan demikian, kegiatan pendampingan dapat dikatakan efektif, dan memberikan dampak positif bagi komunitas guru mitra melalui lembar kerja yang dapat digunakan sebagai panduan guru dalam merancang dan menerapkan asesmen.

Abstract

Tsunami disaster mitigation is a crucial aspect of enhancing community preparedness, particularly among junior high school students in tsunami-prone areas. However, students' disaster literacy remains low due to the lack of engaging and interactive learning media. This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of Scrapbook-based learning media in improving students’ tsunami disaster literacy. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach, this study follows the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) and employs a mixed-method approach combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The research involved four expert validators (material, media, language, and disaster mitigation practitioners) and 65 students from Al-Amin Junior High School, with an initial trial conducted on 15 students. The validation results indicate that the developed Scrapbook media is valid, with an average assessment score of 84%. The paired sample t-test revealed a significant improvement in students' disaster literacy, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.005. These findings demonstrate that Scrapbook media effectively enhances students' understanding of tsunami disaster mitigation. The implications of this study highlight the importance of integrating interactive and visually engaging learning media into disaster education curricula to foster student engagement and strengthen their preparedness for future disasters.
