Abstract

Background: Students in healthcare are expected to face high clinical and academic stressors that may influence their psychological well-being and academic achievement. Resilience plays a significant role in helping students navigate these challenges while maintaining their well-being. The research examines the relationship between psychological well-being, resilience, and academic achievement among Universitas Brawijaya healthcare students in a blended learning environment. Methods: A cross-sectional research design was employed, and 302 students participated through purposive sampling. Data were collected through the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30) and Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale, with GPA as an indicator of academic performance. This study was reported in accordance with the STROBE guidelines. Results: A strong positive relationship between resilience and psychological well-being (r = 0.615, p < 0.01), highlighting the focus on resilience as an effective protective factor. There was, nonetheless, no significant correlation between resilience and GPA (r = -0.006, p = 0.913).. Conclusion: Among the psychological well-being factors, environmental mastery, autonomy, and purpose in life contributed significantly to academic resilience. These findings suggest that cultivating psychological well-being, particularly ecological mastery and self-acceptance, can enable resilience in online learning environments.

Abstract

Background: Timely management in the emergency department (ED) is critical for patient safety and quality of care. Prolonged Length of Stay (LOS) in the ED, often linked to delays in patient processing, can lead to poor outcomes, particularly in high-risk populations. This study aims to explore the time-related factors influencing LOS using the Time Range Guidance Model. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted, analysing 377 patient records from June to August 2025. Data were extracted from electronic medical records (EMR), focusing on time intervals for initial assessment, review/consultation, and transfer phases. Multivariate regression was used to identify the factors influencing LOS. Results: The review/consultation time (β = 0.3, p < 0.001) and transfer waiting time (β = 0.356, p < 0.001) were significant predictors of LOS. The model explained 22.6% of the variability in LOS (Adjusted R² = 0.226). Initial assessment time did not significantly correlate with LOS (r = 0.045, p = 0.321). Conclusion: Delays in the review/consultation and transfer phases have a greater impact on ED LOS than the initial assessment. These findings suggest that optimizing these phases can improve ED efficiency and patient outcomes, particularly in resource-constrained settings such as Indonesia.

Abstract

Adolescents undergo a phase of complex developmental transitions, where this has an impact on increasing vulnerability to emotional and behavioral problems. However, the high prevalence of mental health problems in adolescents is not accompanied by high behavior seeking help regarding adolescent mental health literacy. Orphanages are considered as places that are able to assist and guide the development of adolescents physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, spiritually and culturally. Activities to strengthen emotional mental health provide scientific input in psychiatric nursing courses to strengthen mental nursing interventions in adolescents so that they have optimal psychosocial health development. This activity aims to improve the function of peer groups living in orphanages in influencing adolescent mental health. The form of activities carried out is in the form of socializing the roles and functions of peer groups regarding mental health, stress management and adolescent conflict management. It can be concluded from the results of this activity that the role of mental health leaders who are in orphanages plays an important role in strengthening emotional mental health in peer groups.

Abstract

Abstract

Fungal diseases pose a substantial risk to the health and productivity of rubber plants (Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex A. Juss.) Mull. Arg., the primary source of natural rubber. The diverse fungal pathogens responsible for these diseases lead to significant economic losses in rubber plantations, threatening the global rubber supply. This review provides a comprehensive examination of major fungal diseases affecting rubber plants, focusing on their identification, scientific analysis, and management strategies. Conventional methods for pathogen identification, while valuable, often lack the efficiency and precision required for effective disease control. Recent advancements in molecular diagnostics, genomics, and biotechnology have greatly improved the accuracy and speed of pathogen detection, enabling more targeted and sustainable management practices. Integrated pest management, mainly through the use of disease-tolerant clones, is emerging as a viable alternative to chemical fungicides. Although chemical fungicides remain the most widely used solution due to their accessibility and effectiveness, their environmental impact and potential for resistance necessitate a shift toward sustainable practices. While biofungicides offer a more environmentally friendly option and are already in use, they are currently limited to small-scale plantations and have yet to be adopted for large-scale production. Efforts to develop resistant clones through molecular studies and advanced cloning techniques are ongoing, representing the most sustainable approach for combating fungal diseases in rubber plantations. By synthesizing current knowledge and advancements, this review underscores the pressing challenges in managing fungal diseases and the opportunities presented by innovative technologies. The findings aim to guide future research and promote the development of efficient, sustainable strategies for maintaining rubber crop health, ensuring consistent production, and safeguarding the economic stability of the rubber industry.

Abstract

Background: Evidence on the effectiveness of Narrative Therapy remains limited and varies across age groups, psychological conditions, and cultural contexts; therefore, a systematic review is needed to integrate findings across studies for a more comprehensive understanding. Objective: This review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Narrative Therapy in reducing psychological problems across all age groups based on evidence from previously published studies. Methods: A systematic review was conducted on 20 articles with Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) designs obtained from major academic databases. Study selection was performed using strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. Research participants included children (≤17 years), adolescents (18–25 years), adults (26–59 years), and older adults (≥60 years) from various clinical and community settings across different countries. Results: Of the 20 studies analyzed, 18 showed significant results (p < 0.05) with moderate to large effect sizes (Cohen’s d = 0.5–1.6), while 2 studies were not significant. The highest recorded p-value was 0.019 and the highest t-value was −9.46 (p < 0.001). The greatest effectiveness was observed among children with anxiety and trauma survivors, along with improvements in self-efficacy, self-image, social relationships, and quality of life. Conclusion: Narrative Therapy is effective in reducing psychological symptoms such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and loneliness, while enhancing self-efficacy, self-image, and quality of life across ages and cultures. The therapy is flexible, adaptive, and relevant for psychiatric nursing practice, making it a recommended evidence-based intervention in both clinical and community settings.

Abstract

Background: Postoperative recovery in the early hours after surgery is often accompanied by pain, vital-sign fluctuations, and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). Complementary therapies such as Citrus sinensis aromatherapy and nature sound therapy have been used as adjuncts to pharmacological management; however, evidence on their combined effects on multiple recovery indicators in the early postoperative period remains limited. This study evaluated the effectiveness of these interventions compared with standard postoperative care. Methods: Three-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental study was conducted in two hospitals using purposive sampling. Participants were conscious and hemodynamically stable adult patients 8–12 hours after surgery. Patients with chronic pain, hearing impairment, or olfactory dysfunction were excluded. Based on G*Power analysis (f = 0.25, α = 0.05, power = 0.80), 30 participants per group were required; therefore, 32 were recruited per group. Interventions were provided 8–12 hours post-surgery alongside standard care: Citrus sinensis aromatherapy (25 minutes) and nature sound therapy (30 minutes). Outcomes included pain intensity (Numeric Rating Scale), vital signs, and PONV severity (4-point scale). Data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA in SPSS version 26. Results: Both Citrus sinensis aromatherapy and nature sound therapy showed significant improvements in pain, vital-sign stability, and reduced PONV severity compared with the control condition (p < 0.05). No adverse effects were observed. Aromatherapy demonstrated a moderate effect on PONV reduction, while nature sound therapy showed a large effect on pain reduction and vital-sign stabilization. Conclusion: Citrus sinensis aromatherapy and nature sound therapy are safe adjunctive interventions that may enhance early postoperative recovery by improving symptom burden and supporting physiological stability, with strong potential for integration into sensory-based postoperative comfort protocols.

Abstract

Background: Pain is a common problem in hemodialysis patients and is often accompanied by anxiety. Aromatherapy is a simple, low-cost complementary intervention, but evidence in hemodialysis patients is still limited and inconclusive. Citrus sinensis essential oil is of particular interest because its major bioactive components are analgesic and anxiolytic agents. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of citrus sinensis aromatherapy on pain and anxiety in hemodialysis patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a control group included 50 hemodialysis patients (25 control and 25 intervention) selected by purposive sampling at the Bangil Health Centre in Pasuruan City. Eligible patients were ≥ 18 years old, have good sense of smell, on routine hemodialysis. Pain was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and anxiety using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7)—data analyzed with a paired t-test. The intervention was given twice a week for 30 minutes. Ethical clearance was obtained. Results: In the intervention group, mean pain score decreased from 6.2 ± 1.1 to 3.4 ± 1.0, and anxiety scores decreased significantly (both p < 0.001), while changes in the control group were not significant. Between-group comparisons showed a greater reduction in pain and anxiety in the intervention group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The Citrus sinensis aromatherapy was effective to reduce on pain scale and anxiety level in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. These findings suggest that citrus sinensis aromatherapy can be considered as a simple complementary nursing intervention to improve comfort and psychological well-being during hemodyalisis period.
