Abstract

Stunting is a linear growth disorder caused by malnutrition and recurrent infections. Prevention is through the Nurturing Care Framework (NCF) approach, which includes health care, adequate nutrition, responsive care, early learning opportunities, and safety and security. This study aims to analyze the relationship between NCF-based parenting risk factors and stunting among toddlers in the Pagambiran Padang Community Health Center (Puskesmas) work area. This study was analytical with a cross-sectional design, conducted from June 2024 to January 2025. Sampling used stratified random sampling and simple random sampling, totaling 214 toddlers aged 24-59 months. Data collection used a questionnaire and was analyzed using univariate, bivariate (chi-square), and multivariate (multiple logistic regression with the backward elimination method). The results showed a stunting prevalence of 43.9%. Parenting patterns using the NCF (composite) approach were less than good at 55.1%. Multivariate analysis showed that risk factors significantly associated with stunting were health care (p=0.011), adequate nutrition (p=0.000), and safety and security (p=0.023). Adequate nutrition was the dominant factor (OR=8.602). Meanwhile, early stimulation and responsive parenting did not show a significant relationship. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between health care, adequate nutrition, and safety and security with stunting. Adequate nutrition is the dominant factor. Cross-sectoral collaboration is expected to address nutritional issues, provide basic health services, monitor growth and development, and implement a healthy environment based on the National Child Protection Framework (NCF).

Abstract

Aging is a process of diminishing tissue capacity for self-repair and maintenance of normal structure and function, leading to vulnerability to injury and damage. The high incidence of neurodegenerative diseases coincides with increased life expectancy in the elderly. An unavoidable negative effect of neurodegenerative diseases is the potential to cause cognitive decline. Gambier (Uncaria gambir Roxb.), containing 90% catechin, is a traditional plant with potential to enhance cognitive function. This scoping review aims to map existing research on the potential of bioactive compounds from gambier in modulating cognitive function, based on research articles in journals from the last 10 years in the PubMed, PMC, Google Scholar, and Google Scholar databases (2014-2024). The research was conducted by collecting research data from the last 10 years, totaling 12 articles. Among these, 4 articles met the inclusion criteria, focusing on the potential of bioactive compounds from gambier in modulating cognitive function. The article screening was conducted systematically using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) as 1 a guideline, followed by screening based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. This scoping review found potential for bioactive compounds from gambier in modulating cognitive function, as evidenced by increased Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores, decreased levels of Beta Amyloid (Aβ), Microtubule-Associated Protein Tau (MAPT), Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and increased Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). The potential of catechin, the primary bioactive compound in gambier, which possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective effects, yields beneficial results in enhancing cognitive function in the elderly.

Abstract

Indonesia’s aging population presents an increasing demand for accessible, community-based health services. However, the utilization of Rumah Kasih, a community health program for older adults, remains suboptimal. Objective to examine the reinforcing factors influencing its utilization, including support from healthcare workers, university students, community health workers (CHWs), village heads, family members, and peers. A quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted involving 192 elderly respondents with total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression. The bivariate analysis indicated that all support factors were significantly associated with service utilization (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis identified healthcare worker support as the most influential predictor (OR = 48.346; p < 0.001), followed by student involvement (OR = 5.259; p = 0.005). Although family support was significant in the bivariate analysis, it was not retained in the multivariate model. CHW and peer support yielded high odds ratios but lacked statistical significance, possibly due to data variability or multicollinearity. These findings highlight the critical role of professional engagement and student participation in enhancing elderly involvement in community health programs. Strengthening these factors, along with targeted strategies to involve social actors, may improve the effectiveness and long-term sustainability of elderly care services.
