Abstract

This study examines the effect of board characteristics on financial performance of manufacturing firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2019–2023. Specifically, it investigates the influence of board size, board independence, board expertise, and female board representation on firm performance, while incorporating board commitment as a moderating variable and firm size, firm age, and leverage as control variables. Financial performance is measured using Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). The study employs a quantitative research design using secondary data derived from annual reports of 55 manufacturing companies selected through purposive sampling. Panel data regression analysis is conducted using EViews 9. The findings reveal that firm size and firm age positively affect ROA, whereas leverage negatively affects ROA. For ROE, board size, board commitment, and leverage show positive effects, while female board representation, firm size, and firm age demonstrate negative effects. Furthermore, board commitment negatively moderates the relationship between board size and ROE. The results suggest that larger boards may enhance performance through diverse expertise and experience; however, higher female board representation is associated with lower performance within the observed context. This study contributes to corporate governance literature by highlighting the contingent role of board commitment and provides practical implications for corporate governance design and investment decision-making.

Abstract

Cash holdings of manufacturing companies in Indonesia varied during 2020-2024 in line with changes in investment policies, funding structures, and operating cash flows. This condition reflects the challenges companies face in maintaining optimal liquidity levels. The aim here is to search for the Effect of net working capital, profitability, leverage, cash flow, capital expenditure, and firm size on cash holding. This research implements a quantitative technique by the analysis of data regression through the FEM. This sample contains 39 manufacturing institutions/companies that existed in ISE with a total of 195 observations during the 2020-2024 period. The results show that Net Working Capital, Leverage, Cash Flow, and Capital Expenditure have an effect on Cash Holding, while Profitability has a significant negative effect on Cash Holding. These findings have implications for company management in formulating cash policies that are in line with liquidity management and investment decisions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze various types of financial risks on the performance of insurance companies in Indonesia by including control variables such as leverage, age of the firm, size of the firm, and an additional variable, namely board size. The risks analyzed include credit, market, operational, liquidity, underwriting, and solvency risks. This study uses a quantitative method with secondary data from 32 conventional insurance companies for the period 2020–2024. The focus on conventional insurance was chosen because it has better data completeness, consistent reporting standards, and a significant role in the national insurance market to provide a clear picture of financial risk patterns in the industry. In addition, this sector is interesting to study because it has a complex business structure, broad risk exposure, and high sensitivity to changes in economic conditions. The analysis was conducted using panel data regression, and the fixed effects model was determined to be the most appropriate model. The novelty of this study lies in the addition of board size to assess the supervisory role in the relationship between financial risk and profitability. The results of the study show that credit risk has a positive impact on performance, while other variables such as market risk, operational risk, leverage, and age of the firm have a negative impact. Meanwhile, liquidity risk, underwriting risk, solvency risk, size of the firm, and board size do not show a significant effect, emphasizing the importance of effective risk management and operational efficiency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of underwriting risk, reinsurance risk, technical provision risk, firm size, and leverage on the financial performance of conventional insurance companies in Indonesia. Financial performance is measured using return on equity. The study applies a quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from the financial statements of insurance companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the period of 2020 to 2024, with a total of 200 observations. Panel data regression was employed, and the Hausman test indicated that the fixed effect model was the most appropriate. The results show that firm size has a positive and significant effect on return on equity. Meanwhile, underwriting risk and reinsurance risk have negative but insignificant effects, while technical provision risk and leverage have positive but insignificant effects. These findings suggest that company size plays an important role in increasing profitability, while risk-related variables do not significantly influence financial performance during the observation period.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of digitalization, banking competition, and credit risk on bank stability, with profitability as a mediating variable in conventional banking in Indonesia. This study employs a quantitative research design using hypothesis testing to examine the relationships between independent and dependent variables. The sample is selected using purposive sampling, consisting of conventional banks, including state-owned banks, private banks, regional development banks, and foreign banks. The observation period covers quarterly data from the first quarter of 2019 to the second quarter of 2025. Using panel data, a total of 2,366 observations are obtained. The analytical method applied is panel regression. The results indicate that digitalization does not have a direct effect on bank stability, but it has a positive effect on profitability. Profitability is found to have a positive effect on bank stability and mediates the relationship between digitalization and stability. Banking competition positively affects bank stability but does not significantly influence profitability. Profitability does not mediate the relationship between competition and stability. Credit risk does not directly affect bank stability and does not significantly influence overall profitability. However, when examined through individual profitability measures, credit risk shows a positive effect on profitability. Furthermore, profitability does not mediate the relationship between credit risk and bank stability when measured in aggregate, but partial mediation is observed through specific profitability indicators. The findings suggest that digitalization should be positioned as a strategic tool to enhance profitability, which in turn strengthens bank stability. Banking competition needs to be effectively managed to maintain systemic stability, while credit risk remains a critical instrument in supporting profitability and ensuring long-term sustainability in the banking industry. Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the influence of internal firm-specific variables on dividend per share (DPS) within the non-cyclical manufacturing sector in Indonesia. It emphasizes key internal determinants that shape corporate dividend policy.Method: A quantitative research design is employed, utilizing panel data regression on a sample of 26 non-cyclical manufacturing firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange over the period 2021–2024. Secondary data are obtained from audited annual financial reports. The fixed-effects model is selected as the most appropriate estimation technique, based on the results of the Chow and Hausman specification tests, to ensure model robustness and accuracy.Result: Empirical analysis reveals that firm life cycle, leverage, firm size, firm age, and earnings volatility exert a statistically significant influence on DPS. Conversely, profitability, liquidity, and growth opportunities are found to have no significant effect.Practical Implications for Economic Growth and Development: The findings have important implications for corporate managers, investors, and policymakers in formulating dividend strategies that align with a firm’s financial structure and stage of development. Enhanced dividend decision-making can strengthen investor confidence, improve firm valuation, and promote capital market efficiency, thereby contributing to sustainable economic development.Originality/Value: This study extends the existing body of knowledge by integrating earnings volatility into the analysis of dividend determinants, offering original empirical evidence from the Indonesian manufacturing sector. The results provide a deeper understanding of firm-level financial factors influencing dividend policy in the context of emerging economies.

Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of board of directors’ characteristics on the financial performance of banks in Indonesia, considering the moderating role of bank size and control variables such as gross domestic product and liquidity risk rasio. The study using a quantitative approach and panel data from 21 commercial banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2019–2023, analysis used panel data regression techniques. The findings reveal that bank size and liquidity risk ratio have a significant positive effect on financial performance, measured by return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE). However, board characteristics such as board size, board independence, board gender diversity, and board age diversity do not significantly influence financial performance, nor do their interaction terms with bank size or gross domestic product. Implication for bank management is the importance of focusing on bank size and liquidity risk rasio management to improve profitability, while the role of board characteristics requires further investigation.
