Abstract

The study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the Coping Strategy instrument so that it can be used to explore how adolescents cope with stress in their lives. A total of 100 students of class XI participated in this study. Subjects came from SMA Muhammadiyah 4, SMA Muhammadiyah 5, and SMA Muhammadiyah 6 in the city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The sampling technique used to obtain research subjects is stratified sampling. The Coping Strategy instrument proposed in this study is in the form of a scale with a Likert model consisting of 9 items with seven alternative answers. The item arrangement refers to the Coping Strategy aspect, which consists of problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping. The empirical data that has been collected is then analyzed using the Smart PLS 3.28 program using the Second Order Confirmatory Factor Analysis approach. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that the aspects and indicators that make up the Coping Strategy construct in this study are declared valid and reliable. The most dominant aspect in reflecting on Coping Strategy is problem-focused coping. The results of the study indicate that the development of the Coping Strategy instrument in adolescents in this study is acceptable because the theory that describes Coping Strategy is in accordance with empirical data obtained from the subject. The results of this study can be used by guidance and counseling teachers or counselors to explore strategies / ways for adolescents to deal with stress using the Coping Strategy instrument.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to depict the vocational high school students’ employability. Family support and self-confidence were examined as predictors that can enhance students’ readiness to enter the working world. Ninety-two students of Class XII of a vocational high school participated in this correlational study. They were recruited using cluster random sampling technique. In collecting the data, employability, self-confidence, and family support scales were administered. The collected data were analyzed using multiple regression technique. The result of the study showed that self-confidence and family support are positively correlated with employability, either partially or simultaneously. This study found that self-confidence, as the internal factor, give greater contribution to students’ employability.  The result of this study could be used as a reference for school counselors to provide guidance and counseling services to enhance students’ employability.

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to examine the model between coping strategy, social interaction, and self-adjustment. The respondents of the present study were 660 17-18 years old students of junior high schools in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, both state and private school. The respondents were selected by using proportional sampling from a population of 128,288 students. The present study employed quantitative correlational research design. The data were analyzed using SEM. The result of the study showed that 1) social interaction was intervening variable (mediation) between coping strategy and self-adjustment. Coping strategy holds significant effect on social interaction, social interaction significantly affects self-adjustment, and 2) Coping strategy also possessed a direct correlation with self-adjustment. The result of the study can be used as consideration of the use of a coping strategy in improving an individual's self-adjustment.
