Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh rangkaian gambar terhadap kemampuan menulis teks narasi siswa di kelas VIII Smp Negeri 10 Pematang Siantar. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pada taraf signifikansi 5%, nilai t hitung (t hitung) melebihi nilai t kritis (t tabel), dengan perbandingan masing-masing sebesar 2,62 dan 1,671. Hal ini jelas menunjukkan bahwa skor t melebihi nilai t kritis yang diperoleh dari tabel, sehingga hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima. Pada dasarnya, hal ini menyiratkan bahwa penggunaan rangkaian gambar sebagai alat pembelajaran mempunyai dampak besar terhadap keterampilan menulis narasi siswa kelas delapan. Selain itu, penggabungan rangkaian gambar dalam penulisan teks narasi mendorong peningkatan keterlibatan, kreativitas, produktivitas, dan inovasi siswa, sekaligus menumbuhkan rasa tanggung jawab yang lebih besar. Ini memfasilitasi pembangkitan dan pengembangan ide, penyempurnaan struktur kalimat, pemilihan kosakata yang sesuai, dan pengorganisasian struktur teks yang tepat agar selaras dengan cerita. Lebih lanjut, pendekatan ini mengarah pada peningkatan motivasi dan sikap siswa terhadap pelajaran bahasa Inggris, khususnya dalam konteks menulis teks narasi. Siswa menunjukkan minat yang lebih besar untuk mengikuti pembelajaran dan memanfaatkan media ini. Mereka terlibat aktif dalam berbagai kegiatan sepanjang pembelajaran, menunjukkan kesediaan mereka untuk bertanya dan mengungkapkan ide-ide unik. Antusiasme dan kemauan untuk menulis dan menyelesaikan tugas secara keseluruhan meningkat secara signifikan. Penggunaan rangkaian gambar sebagai alat pengajaran yang menarik berfungsi untuk meningkatkan motivasi dan minat siswa dalam mengikuti kelas menulis.

Abstract

This research investigates the use of Powtoon as a teaching media to enhance students' writing skills in descriptive text. The primary objective is to assess the impact of Powtoon on students' writing abilities. It is posited that Powtoon serves as a powerful tool for classroom engagement. The study employs a quasi-experimental design involving two classes: the experimental group utilizing Powtoon media and the control group relying on conventional teaching methods. The sample consisted of 50 students, with 25 in class VII-2 as the experimental group and 25 in class VII-3 as the control group. Data collection involved writing tests administered before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the intervention. The research utilized Brown’s writing assessment rubric, focusing on aspects such as identification and description. The findings revealed that the mean score for the experimental group increased from 41 in the pre-test to 77.8 in the post-test, while the control group showed a rise from 35.8 in the pre-test to 68.8 in the post-test. The t-test result was 2.52, indicating a significant improvement in the writing skills of students who used Powtoon media compared to those in the control group. These results support the hypothesis that Powtoon media significantly enhances writing skills among seventh-grade students at SMP Swasta Cinta Rakyat 3 Pematangsiantar. The research recommends that educators consider integrating digital platforms like Powtoon into language learning and suggests further exploration of its applications in educational settings.

Abstract

The research aimed to identify syntactical sentence patterns in Sasha Sloas' album, Only Child, using traditional grammar principles and Randolph Quirk's theory of sentence patterns. Data was collected through descriptive qualitative research and documentary analysis, using the Spotify application. The analysis revealed seven sentence patterns: Pattern 1, Pattern 2, Pattern 3, Pattern 4, Pattern 5, Pattern 6, and Pattern 7. Pattern 2 was the most frequently used, and sentence structure, including declarative and imperative sentences, plays a crucial role in conveying meaning and influencing the overall meaning of the text. The study used descriptive qualitative research and documentary analysis to analyze the lyrics of the album. The data was collected through the Spotify application.

Abstract

Guru dan dosen wajib menguasai kompetensi pedagogik, profesional, sosial dan kemandirian pribadi. Sebagai pendidik, setiap kompetensi tersebut menjadi kecakapan dan modal dasar dalam berkolaborasi, inovasi dan interaksi di dalam pembelajaran bersama dengan peserta didik. Untuk menumbuhkembangkan salah satu dari komponen tersebut yakni profesionalisme, maka workshop, pembimbingan, pelatihan dan pendampingan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) menjadi sebuah kegiatan wajib untuk guru dan dosen. Konsep workshop dilaksanakan dengan: menyampaikan konsep dasar dan pengertian penelitian tindakan kelas, mengungkapkan karakteristik penelitian tujuan dan manfaat penelitian tindakan kelas, menyampaikan prinsip-prinsip penelitian tindakan kelas, melukiskan prosedur pelaksanaan penelitian tindakan kelas, mencirikan masalah yang dapat teliti dan menyusun draft penelitian tindakan kelas. Workshop penyusunan proposal penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) ini dilakukan dengan teknis: Seminar dan ceramah bervariasi, praktek (pembimbingan, pelatihan dan pendampingan), diskusi dan tanya jawab.

Abstract

Dolok Pardamean Nagori, Dolok Pardamean District, Simalungun Regency is one of several priority areas for villages assisted by the Community Service Program by HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar University. Dolok Pardamean District has two State Middle Schools and one Private Middle School. SMP Negeri 1 Dolok Pardamean as one of the state junior high schools in Dolok Pardamean District was greatly affected by post-pandemic learning loss and due to the limited use of digital technology in learning. This is demonstrated by school academic data reports which show a decline in achievement in the 2019/2020, 2020/2021, 2021/2022 academic years. This resulted in a decrease in the number of new students. The 2022/2023 academic year will be a tough challenge for SMP Negeri 1 Dolok Pardamean to improve the school's academic quality after Covid-19. The use and implementation of various online learning, implementation of the Merdeka Belajar curriculum and strengthening digital-based teacher competency are programs prepared to be able to increase the skills of teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Dolok Pardemean so that as educational agents, SMP Negeri 1 Dolok Pardemean teachers are able to increase their interest and each student's interest in learning, innovation, creation and collaboration of competencies so that they work together to improve the academic, psychological and character quality of students. After understanding and mapping the problems at SMP Negeri 1 Dolok Pardamean, lecturers at the English Education Study Program, Mathematics Education Study Program, and Computer Science Study Program at HKBP Nommensen University Pematangsiantar determined and prioritized service to this school with the aim of strengthening the competence of teachers in terms of the curriculum. independent learning and digital technology-based learning. In terms of teacher competency, teachers will be trained in the steps to create and use various digital technology-based independent curriculum learning models and media. The solution is to hold a systematic strengthening and training program.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Swasta Muhammadiyah 55, Kandangan, Kabupaten Simalungun, yang merupakan salah satu bidang prioritas Universitas HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar dalam melaksanakan pelayanan. Melalui hasil observasi di lapangan, disebutkan bahwa guru-guru di sekolah tersebut belum memahami bagaimana menerapkan, merancang, dan membuat media pembelajaran yang berdiferensiasi sesuai dengan Kurikulum Merdeka. Selain itu, belum ada guru yang lulus sebagai Guru Penggerak untuk membantu menerapkan Kurikulum Merdeka. Oleh karena itu, tim pengabdian melaksanakan kegiatan pelatihan di SMP Swasta Muhammadiyah 55 Kandangan dengan tujuan meningkatkan keterampilan 13 Guru di sekolah mitra dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi sesuai dengan Kurikulum Merdeka. Kegiatan pelatihan yang dilakukan oleh tim pengabdian berjalan dengan lancar dan melalui hasil evaluasi menunjukkan keberhasilan yang tinggi baik pada guru SMP Muhammadyah 55 Kandangan, maupun secara umum bagi seluruh guru yang mengikuti pelatihan..

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh motivasi guru terhadap keberhasilan program literasi di Sekolah Dasar. Motivasi guru, baik intrinsik maupun ekstrinsik, diyakini memainkan peran penting dalam pelaksanaan program literasi yang efektif dan berkelanjutan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif dengan teknik survei terhadap guru-guru SD di beberapa sekolah dasar negeri dan swasta. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat motivasi guru yang tinggi berkorelasi positif dengan keberhasilan pelaksanaan program literasi, ditandai dengan meningkatnya minat baca siswa, ketersediaan bahan bacaan, dan inovasi dalam strategi pembelajaran literasi. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa pemberdayaan dan penghargaan terhadap guru menjadi kunci dalam menciptakan budaya literasi yang kuat di lingkungan sekolah dasar.

Abstract

The purpose of reading comprehension is to get some skills in understanding the text. So, they can master English well and can comprehend the aspects of reading comprehension well. This purpose of this research is to find out the effect of using task-based learning on students' reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 8 Pematangsiantar. In this study, the researcher use quasi experimental research The research sample is 31 students of class Vlll-7 as the experimental class and 31 students of class Vlll-8 as the control class The instrument of this research is a reading test that is conduct into two tests, pre-test and post-test The instrumentation is create into 25 multiple questions. Based on the data analysis by using Paired Sample T-test in SPSS 21 for windows, the mean of pre-test score in the experimental class was 59.226 while the mean of post-test score in the experimental class was 87.871 It can be conclude that the students' who are teach by using task-based learning as teaching method are better than students who are taught by using conventional method The significance of the test is 0.000 which is lower than the significance level that is 0.05 with 5% of degree Moreover, it is also find that the students' score is improving especially for the students in the experimental class which gained 28.645 of their average score. The conclusion based on the data task based learning is a good method to Increase the students reading comprehension and the suggestion is the teacher should be more creative in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using Quizizz, a gamified online learning platform, in improving the vocabulary mastery of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar. The study employed a quantitative experimental design involving two groups: an experimental group taught using Quizizz and a control group taught through conventional methods. Both groups were given a pre-test and post-test to measure their vocabulary acquisition before and after the treatment. The total number of participants was 72 students, consisting of 36 students in each group, selected using cluster random sampling. The results showed a significant improvement in the vocabulary scores of students in the experimental group compared to those in the control group. The average gain score for the experimental group was notably higher, and the statistical analysis using an independent sample t-test confirmed that the difference was significant (p < 0.05). The findings suggest that Quizizz effectively enhances vocabulary learning by increasing student engagement, motivation, and retention through interactive and enjoyable learning experiences. In conclusion, the study supports the integration of digital tools like Quizizz into vocabulary instruction as a means of improving student learning outcomes. The use of game-based learning not only improves academic performance but also fosters a more engaging and dynamic classroom environment.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of the TPRC strategy on students' reading comprehension of descriptive text in eighth grade at SMP Negeri 10 Pematangsiantar. This investigation was conducted at SMP Negeri 10 Pematangsiantar, namely in classes VIII-2 and VIII-3. The research issue is about the impact of the TPRC Strategy as a teaching medium on reading comprehension descriptive texts for class VIII students at SMP Negeri 10 Pematangsiantar. The researchers employed quantitative descriptive research methodologies in a quasi-experimental design with two classes: experimental and control. Multiple choice exams were used to acquire the data. The data collection instruments were collected from students' pre-test and post-test results; scores were then computed and assessed using MS Excel and manual. The study findings revealed that the experimental class had an average pre-test score of 57.96 and a post-test score of 80.8. Meanwhile, the control class had an average score of 61.09 before the exam and 71.40 after the test. The post-test findings demonstrate that the usage of TPRC learning medium is extremely helpful for class VIII students' reading comprehension of descriptive texts. The t-test computation reveals that the t-test result exceeds the t-table value (2.13 > 1.669). At a 5% significance level, a two-sided test indicates that the null hypothesis (HO) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This suggests that the use of the TPRC Strategy as a teaching medium may help students enhance their reading comprehension.
