Abstract

This article aims to explain the contribution of the gandul pesantren's meaning symbols and reveal the problems in translating Arabic sentences. The method of data collection is done through observation and documentation from several sources related to the meaning of the Islamic boarding school and translation with the main data source in the form of a book entitled "Fathul Qarib Paling Lengkap" by M. Hamim HR. and Huda Nailul which is then analyzed and the results are described qualitatively. The results of the study show that: (1) There are 4 contributions of the symbol of the Islamic boarding school meaning in translating Arabic texts, namely: the translation process becomes more effective and efficient, helps to know the position of a word in a sentence, helps to read Arabic texts and helps understand the message referred to from an Arabic sentence. (2) The meaning of the Islamic boarding school which has several terms symbolized by certain symbols used to explain the position of words in Arabic sentences has problems in translating them into Indonesian because not all terms can be directly translated so that some of them are not included (omitted) in translation.

Abstract

The Islamic rituals in Indonesia have been studied from several perspectives by many scholars. The rituals are usually performed by using several tools, and the text is most used and read in every ritual. However, the studies do not explain the text used in the rituals comprehensively. Therefore, this paper is meant to describe the roles or functions of the text used in the manaqiban ritual performed by Jamaah Aolia Gunung Kidul Yogyakarta. Using a qualitative method based on participate observations and in-depth interviews, the study finds that an-Nur al-burhani, a Javanese translation of al-Jailani ’s hagiography, is the crucial tool in the ritual. The text is merely a historical book about the miracles of al-Jailani , but it has been sacred and transformed with several functions. First, the text serves as a manual for performing the manaqiban. Second, the text as a sacred mantra must be read in the ritual. Third, the text can serve as a consolation for the participants. Fourth, the text serves as a binder for internal group solidarity. Fifth, the text as a source of educational values.

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss Uthman bin Mazh'un's paragraph in visuals, literature in the Nusantara and the international exhibition of the power of the Ka'bah II. The character of the Prophet Muhammad's companion is that of a friend who cares about others' suffering. Next, the visual form of paraga Uthman bin Mazh'un will be explained, along with its meaning in a review of Indonesian literature and in the international exhibition of the power of the Ka'bah II. Visual, literary, and exhibition discussions will help readers understand the character in a cultural context. Visual paraga in the form of wayang implies a specific message to the audience. Especially when exhibited on the international scene. Apart from that, the messages in Javanese literature are moralistic and intended for connoisseurs. Therefore, Uthman bin Mazh'un's paragraph in the wayang Kekayon Khalifah can serve as a beautiful educational tool for the public, both in appearance and language.

Abstract

Bullying in elementary schools is a critical issue within the context of global education, as it directly impacts children's social, emotional, and cognitive development. This study conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of Scopus-indexed scientific publications from 2014 to 2024 to identify developmental factors associated with bullying in children aged 6–12, the most frequently reported forms of bullying, the resulting psychological impacts, and intervention approaches deemed effective. The review process adhered to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) protocol, utilizing data retrieval via Scopus with keyword combinations related to bullying, elementary school, developmental psychology, and peer relations. Out of 31,494 articles identified in the initial phase, only 32 satisfied all inclusion criteria. The main findings indicate that emotional regulation, empathy, peer group dynamics, and the quality of the school climate are the developmental dimensions most influential in the emergence of bullying behavior. Bullying in elementary schools manifests in various forms, involving physical, verbal, and social aggression, as well as cyberbullying and emotional bullying aimed at harming or dominating other students. The effects of bullying are evident in decreased self-esteem, anxiety, depression, social withdrawal, and disrupted social identity formation. This study underscores the necessity of development-based interventions, such as Social Emotional Learning, strengthening the role of teachers, and implementing school-based prevention programs. Furthermore, the findings reveal that physical, verbal, social, and emotional bullying are the most prevalent forms among elementary school children, whereas cyberbullying is less prevalent due to the lower usage of digital devices among this age group. The authors provide theoretical foundations and practical implications for strengthening anti-bullying policies in elementary schools, including Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of a multilingual environment in the acquisition of Arabic as a second language at Pondok Modern Arrisalah Ponorogo. The multilingual environment, which involves the use of Arabic, English, and Indonesian, represents an interesting linguistic phenomenon to be examined from the perspective of second language acquisition. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, involving students, Arabic language teachers, and language coordinators as research participants. The findings indicate that the multilingual environment at Pondok Modern Arrisalah is systematically developed through language policies, structured language programs, and the habituation of language use in students’ daily lives. This environment plays a significant role in supporting the acquisition of Arabic, particularly through the intensity of language exposure, social interaction, and continuous communicative practice. The presence of other languages does not entirely hinder the process of Arabic acquisition; rather, in certain contexts, it functions as scaffolding that helps students understand and strengthen their linguistic competence. The main supporting factors include the consistency of language policies, teachers’ role modeling, and students’ motivation, while the inhibiting factors include differences in students’ linguistic backgrounds, low self-confidence among some learners, and the influence of non-target language use

Abstract

The low level of students’ communicative competence remains a major challenge in Arabic language learning across various educational levels in Indonesia. Learning practices that primarily emphasize memorization of grammar and vocabulary have not sufficiently addressed learners’ psychological and social dimensions. This study aims to develop and empirically validate a psycho-sociolinguistic-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model for Arabic language learning. Employing a descriptive–analytical design, the study involved both conceptual analysis and empirical validation. The empirical phase utilized a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design conducted at MTs Al-Ma’arif Rakit Banjarnegara, involving 32 eighth-grade students. Research instruments included a communicative competence test, a psycho-sociolinguistic questionnaire, and classroom observation sheets. The findings reveal significant improvements in students’ communicative competence, particularly in sociolinguistic and strategic aspects, along with increased learning motivation, self-confidence, and quality of social interaction. The integration of psycho-sociolinguistic principles into the stages of PjBL effectively fosters contextual, meaningful, and humanistic Arabic language learning. Therefore, the psycho-sociolinguistic-based PjBL model is empirically proven to be effective in real classroom contexts and holds strong potential for broader implementation in madrasah-based Arabic language education. The developed model contributes theoretically by integrating affective and sociolinguistic perspectives into project-based pedagogy, and practically by offering an adaptable framework for improving communicative competence in madrasah-based Arabic education.
