Abstract

Malachite green is a synthetic dye that is widely used in the textile industry. Textile industry waste that is not treated properly will pollute the aquatic environment. The threshold value for the permissible concentration of Malachite green in waters is around 0.01 mg/L. The adsorption method is an alternative method used to remove dyestuff waste. This study used a batch method which aims to determine the optimum conditions for absorption and the maximum absorption capacity of Malachite green using activated carbon from the peel of Kepok banana (Musa balbisiana Colla). In this study, treatments were carried out using variations in solution concentration and contact time. The results of this study, obtained the absorption capacity at optimum conditions concentration 150 mg/L and contact time 150 minutes with absorption capacity of 9.2429 mg /g with absorption percentage of 97.9734%. Mechanism the absorption of Malachite green follows the equation Langmuir isotherm with a determinant coefficient (R2) of 0,9989.

Abstract

Abstract

The malachite green dye is one of the harmful dyes produced from various textile industry wastes and needs to reduce by the presence of the waste. The biosorption method is one of the alternative methods used to remove the concentration of malachite green. Biosorption using langsat peel biosorbent proved to be able to absorb malachite green dye. This study using the coloum method by varying the pH of the MG solution and particle size of the biosorbent. In this research, spectronics were used to measure the concentration of the solution and analyze the functional groups on langsat peel before activation, after activation, and after contact using FTIR. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the optimum conditions for each variation were at solution pH 5  with an adsorption rate of 4.962 mg/g and particle size of biosorbent 106 m with an adsorption rate of 15.376 mg/g.

Abstract

Methylene blue is one of the textile industry wastes which can cause pollution to aquatic ecosystems. The threshold value for the permissible concentration of methylene blue in ambient waters (5-10) mg / L. So we need a method to treat wastewater contaminated with dye so that it is safe to dispose of and does not pollute the environment. One of the effective methods for removing dye waste is the adsorption method. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum absorption conditions and maximum absorption capacity of methylene blue using activated carbon from the peel of a banana (Musa balbisiana Colla). In this study, using the Bacht method to adsorb methylene blue dye by varying the pH and stirring speed. The results of this study showed that the absorption capacity at the optimum conditions of pH 6 and a particle size of 250 µm was 5.4096 mg / g and the absorption percentage was 86.54%.

Abstract

Composite bacterial cellulose - seaweed (BC-SW) was prepared by immersing the bacterial cellulose (BC) in seaweed extract (SW) for 1,2,3, and 4 days. Has researched the effect of immersion time on the physical and mechanical properties of the composite, the result showed that longer of immersion time decreases the water content, the higher the compressive strength, tensile strength and elasticity BC-SW composite. From the research done, the content of BC reached 99 156% while for BC-SW composite decreased water content of up to 98 585%. In the compressive strength test, the compressive strength of BC is 0292 MPa, while the BC-SW composite the compressive strength increased 2 times to 8 times stronger than BC. The value of physical and mechanical properties have not been suitable with the standards for the manufacture of cartilage. Analysis of the structure of KSB-RL was observed using FTIR and XRD. Results of FTIR spectra showed no new functional groups but only experienced a slight shift in the vibrational wave numbers.

Abstract

Flowers cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L) is an important and widely grown vegetable in many places. Soil as the growth of vegetables such as flowers cabbage can be contaminated media by harmful substances, such as heavy metals like cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn). Analysis of cadmium and zinc contents in flowers cabbage in the Koto Baru in Tanah Datar and Padang Lua in Agam by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry has been done. This study aims to determine the content of cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn) in flowers cabbage and to know what kind of a good solvent on the analysis of the content of cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn) in flowers cabbage by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. This study uses a wet destruction, where the destruction process done with some variation of the solvent variation: HClO4 p.a, HNO3 p.a and HNO3-HClO4 mixture (4:1). Research results showed that local flowers cabbage in Koto Baru Tanah Datar and Padang Lua Agam is still below the safety limit but still have to watch out for. Good solvent for analysis of Cd metal content in the sample flowers cabbage  for Koto Baru area of Tanah Datar is HNO3-HClO4 mixture (4:1) for a Padang Lua, Agam is HClO4 p.a good solvent for analysis of Zn metal content in the sample flowers cabbage for Koto Baru area of Tanah Datar and Agam, Padang Lua is HNO3-HClO4 mixture.

Abstract

Activated carbon from durian peel is synthesized by chemical activation using an alkaline sodium hydroxide. The carbonization process is carried out for 2 hours at a temperature of 320ºC. Activated carbon is characterized by conducting several quality tests based on SNI 06-3730-1995 which has met all specified standards. The results of the FTIR spectrum show that activated carbon has a cluster of -OH at wave numbers 3000-3400 cm-1, C = C at wave numbers 1540-1630 cm-1, C-O in wave numbers 1150-1275 cm-1. Adsorption test results by batch method showed that the prepared activated carbon was able to absorb Pb2+ ions at an optimum concentration of 280 mg/L and an optimum contact time of 150 minutes with an absorption capacity of 34,145 mg/g that was close to langmuir's isoterm equation by producing a regression coefficient value of R2 = 0.999.
