Abstract

Research has been carried out on the bioabsorption of lead (Pb) using durian skin biomass (Durio zibethinus) which has been activated using an H2SO4 activator. The durian skin sample used was durian skin from Central Sulawesi. The processing technique to remove lead (Pb) from liquid waste was carried out by an adsorption process. The adsorption process is an effective purification and separation technique used in industry because it is more economical and simple in treating wastewater and is a technique that is often used to reduce metal ions in wastewater. This study aims to determine the mass and contact time of the adsorption of Pb by durian skin biomass. Determination of the adsorbed metal used atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The results obtained showed that the optimal Pb ion adsorption occurred at a weight of 2.5 grams with an absorption capacity of 99.94 %. While the optimal Pb ion adsorption occurred at a contact time of 40 minutes with an absorption capacity of 99.94 %.

Abstract

Biscuits are one of the most popular snacks for the public, with the primary raw material being wheat flour. However, the high dependence on wheat flour encourages the need to find alternative ingredients that are more diverse and have high nutritional value. This study aims to analyze the proximate content (carbohydrate, protein, and fat) of biscuits made from durian seed flour (TBD), which is compared with cornstarch (TM) and wheat flour (TT). Proximate analysis methods included UV-Vis spectrophotometry for carbohydrate analysis, the Kjeldahl protein method, and Soxhlet fat extraction. The formulations used consisted of: F1 (100% TBD), F2 (100% TM), F3 (50% TBD:50% TM), and F4 (50% TT:50% TM). The results showed that the highest carbohydrate content was found in F1 at 70.07%, while the highest protein content in F4 at 13.65%. The highest fat content was found in F2 at 21.69%. The best formulation was obtained in F3 (50% TBD:50% TM) because it has a balanced nutritional composition and potential as a functional food product, especially for people with diabetes. In addition, this biscuit product has the potential as a contextual learning medium in food science and nutrition, especially in introducing proximate concepts and utilizing tropical fruit seed waste.

Abstract

Low understanding among teachers regarding the concepts and benefits of Classroom Action Research (CAR) as a means of professional development is one of the main problems at SD Negeri 2 Labuan. Most teachers are not yet accustomed to systematically reflecting on their teaching practices thru classroom-based research. This resulted in very limited teacher participation in CAR activities, and the learning innovations that were supposed to emerge from this process were also hindered. To address this, the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at Tadulako University conducted a Community Service (PkM) activity to improve teacher competence thru training and the implementation of Classroom Action Research. This activity included training, mentoring in preparing CAR as well as reflection and evaluation. The evaluation results show an 84% increase in teachers' understanding of CAR. Full support from the school and active participation from the teachers also contributed positively to the success of this activity.

Abstract

The essential oil of tuberose flowers has a distinctive aroma that mosquitoes dislike and can kill insects, and it also contains eugenol, a beneficial antioxidant. Therefore, this essential oil is utilised in aromatherapy candles. Another essential oil with a distinctive aroma is pine needle oil. Its aroma can relieve cold symptoms and also repel mosquitoes. The objective of this research is to determine the characteristics and effectiveness of essential oil extracts from pine needles (Pinus merkusii) and tuberose flowers (Polianthes tuberosa L) as anti-mosquito aromatherapy candles. The research method used is true experimental. The samples used in this study are pine leaves and tuberose flowers. Fresh pine leaves are steam-distilled, while tuberose essential oil is commercially produced. Then, an evaluation stage of the aromatherapy candle preparation is conducted. The results of the therapeutic effect test on F1 and F4 show a feeling of relaxation and freshness. The percentage of mosquito mortality in formulations F0, F1, F2, F3, and F4 were 0%, 27%, 37%, 43%, and 53% respectively. From these formulations, it can be concluded that F0, F1, F2, and F3 are not effective at killing mosquitoes, as only F4 meets the lethal concentration 50 (LC50) criteria. This shows that in the F4 formulation, the essential oil content, consisting of eugenol and α-pinene, produces the highest mosquito mortality rate, and this combination has the potential to be used as an anti-mosquito aromatherapy wax.
