Abstract

Student textbooks need to contain character education following curriculum objectives. This study aimed to describe the character content in high school science textbooks 10th-grade, analyze the distribution of character content on each topic, and identify similarities in each textbook. The research objectives were answered by inferential content analysis. The books analyzed were two textbooks (one published by the government and one published by a private company). The results showed that both textbooks contained dimensions of the Pancasila student profile presented explicitly and implicitly. The analysis showed that the character content in book 1 was 262 and in book 2 was 463. Book 1 is dominated by critical reasoning (39%) and book 2 is dominated by independence (34%). The distribution of characters on each topic in the two books is different, but both books contain all dimensions of the character profile of Pancasila students. The results of this study are considered for teachers to use various books and learning resources in learning. In addition, the results of this study also provide initial information for future researchers to develop a mechanism for measuring the profile of Pancasila students as a feature of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the four skills that must be prepared in the 21st century. The results of observations in one of the leading high schools in Tolitoli, Central Sulawesi, showed that low critical thinking skills were likely caused by using learning models that were not yet relevant. One effort to develop students’ critical thinking skills is through the Auditory Intellectually Repetition (AIR) model based on Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI). This study aims to determine the effect of the SSI-based AIR model on students’ critical thinking skills about environmental pollution materials. This type of research is a quantitative quasi-experimental study with a Pre-test-Post-test control group design. The research sample was selected through cluster random sampling from the population of four Grade X science program classes. After randomization, a research sample of 72 out of 144 students was selected, and they were divided into two groups: the experimental group (SSI-based AIR) and the control group (discovery learning). Experts have validated the research instrument used. The research data analysis used the independent sample t-test or Mann-Whitney test. The results of the Mann-Whitney test analysis showed a significance value (two-tailed) of 0.012 (p 0.05). Based on these results, it can be concluded that applying the SSI-based AIR model has a positive impact on students’ critical thinking skills regarding environmental pollution materials. Teachers can utilize the findings of this study as an alternative to employing innovative methods in their classrooms.

Abstract

Meaningful learning can be carried out by adapting learning to local culture and traditions. Ethnoscience is a set of knowledge identified in a community and can be used as the learning base to create contextual and meaningful learning for students. This study aims to find more information about ethnoscience-based biology learning. The research method used was a literature study. The literature used mainly discusses ethnoscience, ethnoscience learning, and learning methods. The instrument used in this study was a summary table of all related articles, following the summary table made by Cronin et al. (2008). This research produces a new conceptual framework which is a synergy between ethnoscience and problem-based learning. This research also generates six procedures for designing ethnoscience-based learning and five steps to integrate ethnoscience into Problem-based Learning. The integration of ethnoscience in problem-based learning can increase the contextuality and meaning of biology learning and can be applied to maintain local culture. This study recommends the use of procedures resulted from this study to design ethnoscience-based learning and integrate ethnoscience learning into Problem-Based Learning.

Abstract

Fluctuations in world crude oil prices significantly impact oil-importing countries like Indonesia. These fluctuations affect multiple sectors, including the import of consumer goods, which is vital for the domestic economy. In Indonesia, consumer goods are crucial for economic stability. Thus, understanding how oil price fluctuations influence imports is essential for policymaking. This study investigates the relationship between world crude oil price fluctuations and the import value of consumer goods in Indonesia over an extended period. A quantitative approach was used, treating world crude oil prices as the independent variable and the import value of consumer goods as the dependent variable. Linear regression analysis, supported by descriptive statistical methods, was employed to assess this relationship. The results indicate that world crude oil prices have a significant effect on the import value of consumer goods, with data showing near-normal distribution and low skewness and kurtosis, validating the model. However, positive autocorrelation in the residuals suggests the need for further analysis to ensure the reliability of the model. These findings offer important insights for policymakers on managing the economic impact of oil price volatility on Indonesia’s domestic market. Future research could explore additional factors, such as inflation or trade policy, that may influence this relationship, contributing to more effective economic strategies.
