Abstract

Tourism is a primary sector supporting Bali's economy, as it is capable of driving economic growth, creating job opportunities, and accelerating the development of tourist areas. Canggu is one of the regions experiencing an increase in guesthouse-based accommodation development, in line with the rising interest of tourists. However, The Manggar Guesthouse is facing a decline in occupancy rates and a number of complaints related to service, facility completeness, and the guests' stay experience. To ensure the sustainability of service quality in this situation, research is needed on the components that influence guest satisfaction. The objective of this research is to study how service quality, service perspective, and customer experience affect the satisfaction of guests staying at The Manggar Guesthouse. A quantitative method was used by conducting a survey of 112 participants selected through a purposive sampling method. The research data was collected through a four-point Likert scale questionnaire, complemented by documentation and observation as supporting data. The research instruments underwent validity and reliability testing, and the data was analyzed using classical assumption tests and multiple linear regression. The research results indicate that service quality (t = 2.828; p = 0.006$), customer experience (t = 3.354; p = 0.001$), and service perspective (t = 4.835; p = 0.000$) partially and significantly influence guest satisfaction. Simultaneously, the three variables also have a significant effect, with an F count of 40.300 and p = 0.000. The adjusted R2 value of 0.515 indicates the contribution of the three variables to guest satisfaction. Thus, these three factors should be the main focus in the strategy for improving the quality of accommodation management.

Abstract

This study analyzes gender bias in nyentana marriage practices among the people of Cemagi Village, Badung Regency, using Pierre Bourdieu's Theory of Social Practice Capital. Through a qualitative descriptive approach using interviews, observation, and documentation techniques, this study reveals how men who enter women's families experience shifts in habitus, social roles, and symbolic authority. The results show that even though nyentana is formally recognized in customary law and men obtain equal ritual rights after being approved as krama, social acceptance does not occur automatically. Men must rebuild their social and symbolic capital through active participation in banjar activities and other customary obligations. Gender bias is evident in three main aspects: (1) community perceptions that position nyentana men as subordinate; (2) symbolic violence through everyday language such as “follow your wife” or “megolih”; and (3) the distribution of economic, social, and symbolic capital that is not yet fully equal in women's families. For female families, nyentana is a strategy for preserving the family line and increasing the family's symbolic capital. This study recommends the formulation of more gender-sensitive customary regulations, the use of more inclusive language, and community education to reduce bias and symbolic violence in the practice of nyentana in Bali.

Abstract

This qualitative research, using a case study approach, aims to analyse the role of Instagram as a development communication tool in the development of Pinge Tourism Village, Tabanan, Bali. The study's results reveal that Instagram serves as an adequate digital public space for promoting and branding Pinge Tourism Village. Community participation is essential for sustainable development in various sectors, including tourism and environmental management. Involving the local community will provide experience and ensure that economic benefits are distributed evenly. Through tags, geotags, and collaborations with influencers or other tourism accounts, Instagram helps Pinge Tourism Village build networks with external partners such as travel agencies, local governments, and tourism communities, thereby expanding the reach of its promotion. From a development communication perspective, Instagram facilitates a two-way communication process. Village managers can convey information while receiving feedback from visitors. This interaction aids in the planning and development of tourism villages that are more responsive to market needs and trends. However, the study also identified challenges, including pressure on village capacity and the potential for cultural commodification. The study concludes that, from a development communication perspective, Instagram functions as a strategic development communication tool that transforms local values into socioeconomic capital, while requiring critical and balanced content management to ensure genuine development sustainability. Furthermore, participatory development communication plays a vital role, with Instagram serving as a tool for this form of communication

Abstract

This research analyzes how local Balinese media frame the narrative surrounding Bali Mandiri Energi following the 2025 blackout that paralyzed the island for more than ten hours. The study applies Robert Entman’s framing theory to examine how two major local news outlets, Radar Bali and Bali Post, constructed meaning and directed public attention toward the government’s energy independence agenda. Using a theoretic descriptive approach, the study identifies key framing devices such as problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. Findings reveal that both media positioned the blackout not merely as a technical failure, but as a symbolic crisis that exposed Bali’s energy dependency on Java. The discourse of Bali Mandiri Energi was amplified through positive moral framing, portraying the initiative as a collective breakthrough rooted in regional pride and resilience. However, subtle differences appear: Radar Bali emphasized political accountability, while Bali Post foregrounded cultural and environmental narratives. The research concludes that local media framing played a strategic role in transforming a regional crisis into a narrative of innovation and self-reliance.

Abstract

This study examines how promotional strategies, service quality, and hotel image influence occupancy rates at Bali Mega Hotel Jimbaran. The research involved 98 respondents living in the South Kuta area, aged 17–45 years, who had stayed at the hotel more than once. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) version 4. The findings indicate that all three variables—promotional strategies, service quality, and hotel image—positively and significantly contribute to higher occupancy levels. These results highlight the importance of strengthening the hotel’s marketing efforts, particularly through engaging digital promotions that appeal to potential guests. In addition, improving service quality by enhancing staff responsiveness, refining guest interaction, and ensuring consistent service delivery is essential. The study also recommends upgrading outdated facilities, adding amenities that guests commonly expect, and ensuring greater comfort throughout the hotel environment. Collectively, these improvements can enhance the hotel’s overall image, align more closely with guest expectations, and ultimately increase the value perceived by tourists, thereby helping Bali Mega Hotel Jimbaran remain competitive in the hospitality market.

Abstract

This study examines gender performativity in the film 500 Days of Summer using Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity as the main analytical framework. Butler argues that gender is not an inherent identity but a social construct formed through repeated actions, language, and everyday expressions. This qualitative research analyzes how the characters Summer Finn and Tom Hansen represent gender construction through dialogue, cinematic visuals, and symbolic elements presented throughout the narrative. Data were collected from dialogue scripts, visual components such as expressions, gestures, framing, lighting, and costumes, as well as symbolic signs supporting the interpretation of gender. The analysis shows that the film consistently presents a reversal of traditional gender norms. Summer is portrayed as an independent, rational, and dominant woman, while Tom is depicted as emotional, sensitive, and passive. This configuration reinforces Butler’s concept that gender is fluid, unstable, and produced through repeated social practices. The findings indicate that 500 Days of Summer not only offers a romantic storyline but also provides a critique of traditional stereotypes of masculinity and femininity through the performativity of its two main characters. This research is expected to enrich studies on gender representation in film and create space for broader discussions on the construction of gender identity in popular culture.
