Abstract

Local wisdom is something very important to be cultivated as an effort to inculcate the values contained in it. This needs to be instilled from an early childhood education. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of learning local wisdom in kindergarten throughout the province of DIY. The research method used is a survey. The results of the study show that the wealth of local wisdom has not been used optimally for the stimulation process of early childhood development. The skills of taste such as carving, playing gamelan and tambourines performed by children hardly occur in the implementation of early childhood learning. However, the skills of painting skills get the best portion of early childhood learning in all districts / cities in DIY. Likewise, the introduction of names for nuclear family members, large families, types of work, traditional games, traditional ceremonies, names of animals, plants, and time markers have been well implemented in the process of early childhood learning. Learning local wisdom can stimulate children’s full potential.

Abstract

Fostering patriotism in early childhood is a critical challenge in an era of globalisation, where traditional values risk being overshadowed by modern influences. This study investigates the cultivation of patriotism in early childhood through the "Angkasa Berbudaya" program at Angkasa Adisutjipto Kindergarten in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving 20 students, five educators, and the school principal. The program integrates local culture, science, and technology to foster national identity while introducing global perspectives. Arts-based approaches, including traditional dance, angklung music, and marching bands, instil cultural appreciation, self-discipline, and creativity. Additionally, patriotism is embedded through national ceremonies, storytelling, and wearing traditional attire, promoting values like love for the homeland, discipline, and cooperation. Findings indicate that the program supports cognitive, social, and emotional development, contributing to a well-rounded education that balances tradition and modernity. However, challenges include inadequate facilities, limited parental involvement, and the absence of systematic evaluations to assess the program's long-term impact. Recommendations include improving resources, enhancing parental engagement, and incorporating broader multicultural perspectives to strengthen the program's effectiveness. This study underscores the significant role of culturally integrated education in fostering patriotism and social cohesion, offering a replicable model for early childhood education. By blending local heritage with global insights, the program prepares children to value diversity while maintaining a strong sense of national identity. Future research should focus on longitudinal impacts and scalable strategies for integrating patriotism into early education curricula.

Abstract

Batik is one of Indonesia's most renowned traditional art forms, crafted by hand and rich in cultural significance. Introducing batik to children early is essential for preserving local heritage and fostering creativity, imagination, and motor skill development. This study aims to explore the identification of batik motifs in art education at PPBI Batik Kindergarten Yogyakarta and its role in enhancing creativity and cultural awareness in early childhood. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research subjects included the principal and teachers of the kindergarten. Data analysis involved reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that several traditional batik motifs are incorporated into art learning, including kawung, parang, lereng (slope), truntum, and semen motifs, alongside modernized variations created by the children. The study demonstrated that identifying and learning batik motifs enhanced children’s artistic skills and deepened their cultural awareness. Through the use of visual and qualitative analysis methods, children were able to understand and appreciate the symbolic meanings of various motifs. Their participation in the creative process—from motif introduction, drawing, and canting to coloring—enhanced their creativity and art skills. This research concludes that art education involving batik at PPBI Batik Kindergarten Yogyakarta fosters children’s creativity, artistic abilities, and cultural awareness while contributing to the broader preservation of Indonesia's cultural heritage.

Abstract

The To optimize children's art development in art learning activities, teachers must have the right strategy. Therefore, it is not only the right techniques and resources that are needed to enhance children's art development. The teacher's method of preparing for learning, as well as methods, media, and other elements, greatly affect the child's learning process. The purpose of this study is to provide an explanation of the methods teachers use to make art learning fun for students in kindergarten. The research was conducted in one month, during April 2024. The location of this research was conducted in one of the PAUD in Yogyakarta, namely Jabal rahmah PAUD. This qualitative descriptive study was designed as a case study. Data collection involved observation, documentation, and interviews. Presenting data, reducing data, and drawing conclusions were part of the data analysis conducted using the Miles Huberman model. The discussion of art learning strategies in early childhood at Jabal Rahmah PAUD shows that these strategies are quite different: direct and collaborative learning strategies with group and centre models proved to be fun and improved children's art skills. based on this, children are used to working together and are confident in their respective fields. in addition, teachers use art learning as part of teaching and learning activities, while extracurricular teachers conduct art form activities such as music, fine arts and dance. This is due to the difference between classroom teachers and teachers who teach outside the classroom, who have greater professional experience gained through arts education.

Abstract

Diopatra claparedii Grube, 1878, is a tubicolous polychaete species widely used as fishing bait by local anglers in Cilacap, Central Java, Indonesia. Little is known about its biological characteristics despite its ecological and economic importance. This study aimed to examine the survival rate, growth, metabolic rate, and osmoregulatory capacity of D. claparedii under different salinity conditions. The experiment was conducted using plastic containers (20 × 30 × 25 cm) filled with a muddy substrate and water at four salinity levels: 10, 15, 20, and 25 ppt, with each treatment replicated five times. The results showed that the survival rate of D. claparedii ranged from 87% to 93%, while its growth varied between 0.17 and 0.58 g. The metabolic rate, measured in terms of oxygen consumption, ranged from 0.201 to 0.467 mg·g-¹·h-¹. The  osmoregulatory capacity of the worms varied between 1.26 and 1.54 mOsm·kg-¹ solvent. Statistical analysis indicated that salinity did not significantly affect survival (p> 0.05). However, it significantly influenced growth, metabolic rate, and osmoregulatory capacity (p< 0.05). The results suggested that a 15–25 ppt salinity range was more favorable for the species, with 20 ppt being the most optimal level for its maintenance and growth. This study highlights the potential for cultivating D. claparedii under controlled conditions, providing a sustainable alternative to wild harvesting. As polychaete farming has been successfully implemented in several countries, similar efforts could be applied in Indonesia to support local fisheries while conserving natural populations.
