Abstract

This research aims to produce a product and describe the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the Katapel quiz application learning media on energy in living systems. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) research and uses the 4D development model. The research target was class VII of SMP Negeri 1 Asparaga, involving 22 students. The results of Katapel quiz application consist of validity obtained 3.73 in the "valid" category; practicality obtained 85.71% in the "Very Good" category, and through student response questionnaires, which received 88.59% in the "Very Good" category; the effectiveness obtained 84.42% in the "Good" category and through learning outcomes tests of students who obtained a pretest score of 39.09% and a posttest of 90.55% with an N-Gain of 0.84 in the "high" category. The research results concluded that the learning media for the Katapel quiz application had met the valid, practical, and effective criteria for improving student learning outcomes on the subject of Energy in Living Systems.

Abstract

This study developed a guided inquiry-based learning module using Canva media to enhance critical thinking and learning motivation in Grade VIII students on the topic of the digestive system. Given the low science literacy and critical thinking skills in Indonesia, especially in junior high school science, this module aimed to address the gap in teaching abstract topics. A Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model was applied in small-scale (10 students) and large-scale trials (55 students) at two junior high schools. Data were collected through expert validation, a critical thinking test, and a motivation questionnaire, analyzed using N-Gain and descriptive statistics. Results showed a moderate improvement in critical thinking (N-Gain of 0.63) and high student motivation (88% in the small-scale and 82% in the large-scale trial). The use of Canva within the inquiry-based approach significantly increased engagement and helped students understand abstract concepts, proving that combining inquiry-based learning with visual media is an effective strategy to improve critical thinking and motivation in junior high school science.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of local wisdom-based Problem Based Learning (PBL) on junior high school students' learning outcomes in temperature and heat. The method used was a quantitative experiment with a one-group pretest–posttest design; the independent variable was PBL based on local wisdom integrated through Google Sites (e-modules, worksheets, videos, and contextual tasks), while the dependent variable was learning outcomes measured by achievement tests that had been validated by experts and declared to be highly valid. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Shapiro–Wilk test for normality, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test for paired comparisons, and N-Gain for effectiveness. The results show a significant increase: the class average increased from 45 to 84 and from 41 to 84; the posttest data was not normal, so Wilcoxon was used with results of Z = 4.111 and Z = 4.021 (p < 0.001), confirming a significant difference between the pretest and posttest. The average N-Gain = 0.69 (moderate category) with individual distribution in the moderate to high range, indicating that PBL based on local wisdom is effective in strengthening conceptual understanding and encouraging learning engagement. It is recommended to continuously integrate the local cultural context into science units through digital platforms, strengthen teacher training to facilitate PBL, and conduct further research with control groups, larger samples, and mixed approaches to examine conceptual changes and misconception reduction more comprehensively. It is recommended that local cultural contexts be continuously integrated into science units through digital platforms, that teacher training be strengthened to facilitate PBL, and that further research be conducted with control groups, larger samples, and mixed approaches to examine conceptual changes and misconception reduction more comprehensively.
