Abstract

Nurses' dissatisfaction with hospital policies and administration can lead to serious consequences for the hospital, as nearly 80% of care is provided by nurses. The aim of this study is to analyze the factors related to job satisfaction among nurses in the inpatient wards of RSUD Pariaman. This is a descriptive correlational study with a cross-sectional design, using a questionnaire for data collection. Data analysis was conducted using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis. There was no relationship between nurses' characteristics and promotion opportunities with job satisfaction. However, leadership, the nature of the job, salary, and feedback were found to have a relationship with job satisfaction. The most dominant factor influencing job satisfaction is feedback. Recommendations for the hospital management to enhance job satisfaction include paying more attention to feedback: responding to suggestions made by nurses, monitoring job development, providing positive encouragement, and evaluating nurses' performance.

Abstract

Abstract

Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion or resistance. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) reported that in 2021 there were 537 million people with diabetes in the world and is projected to increase to 643 million in 2030 and 783 million in 2045. At Padang Pariaman Regional Hospital, Type II Diabetes Mellitus cases are among the top 10 diseases with a total of 515 cases in 2023, increasing to 661 cases in 2024, and 567 cases in 2025. This study used a case study method on Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients in the Internal Room of Padang Pariaman Regional Hospital in 2026 with a nursing process approach. The results of the assessment on Mrs. S showed complaints of weakness, nausea, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, and a random blood sugar level of 259 mg/dl. Four nursing diagnoses were found, namely unstable blood glucose levels, acute pain, nausea, and risk of nutritional deficit. Interventions included blood glucose monitoring, hyperglycemia management, pain and nausea management, and nutritional needs. Conclusions indicate that comprehensive nursing care can improve patient conditions, characterized by lower blood glucose levels, fewer complaints, and increased appetite.

Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) caused 3.23 million deaths worldwide in 2024, making it the third leading cause of death. In Indonesia, COPD accounted for 1,111 deaths, while its prevalence in West Sumatra reached 3.1% or approximately 164,000 people. This case study aimed to describe the nursing care process for a patient with COPD, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation. The study involved one patient (Mr. R) who was treated in the pulmonary ward of RSUD Prof. H. M. Yamin, SH Pariaman from February 2–6, 2026. Assessment findings revealed dyspnea, productive cough with difficulty expectorating sputum, sleep pattern disturbances, and decreased appetite. Nursing diagnoses included ineffective airway clearance, disturbed sleep pattern, and risk for nutritional deficit. Interventions focused on respiratory monitoring, effective coughing and deep-breathing exercises, semi-Fowler positioning, sleep support, and nutritional management. After five days of care, the patient's condition improved, with reduced dyspnea, easier sputum expectoration, better sleep quality, and increased appetite. Continuous education is essential to prevent recurrence

Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a major health problem characterized by progressive and not fully reversible airflow limitation, which significantly affects patients’ quality of life, particularly due to ineffective breathing patterns. Based on literature review, COPD is associated with risk factors such as smoking habits, air pollution exposure, and a history of chronic respiratory diseases, with nursing theories emphasizing the fulfillment of oxygenation needs and the effectiveness of breathing patterns. This study used a descriptive method with a case study approach aimed at identifying nursing problems and providing appropriate interventions in COPD patients. Data were collected through interviews, observations, physical examinations, and documentation studies, then analyzed by comparing findings with relevant theories. The results showed that the patient experienced an ineffective breathing pattern characterized by shortness of breath, use of accessory respiratory muscles, and decreased oxygen saturation. Nursing interventions included breathing exercises, semi-Fowler positioning, and health education. Evaluation indicated an improvement in the patient’s condition, marked by reduced dyspnea and improved breathing pattern effectiveness. The conclusion of this study is that appropriate, systematic, and continuous nursing care can improve breathing pattern effectiveness in COPD patients and support optimal recovery.
