Abstract

ABSTRACT                                   Pteroma plagiophleps bagworm is an important insect pest of albizia. It is necessary to understand the development stages of the larvae as the basis for its control. The research aims to determine the number of instars and the rate of increase in larval size based on the width of the head capsule. Furthermore, larval bag size as an easily observable variable was used to estimate the instar stage. Instar number and the size range were determined by non linear regression, while the instar stage was estimated by the regression equation using bag diameter and length. We concluded that the larvae experienced four instars. The head capsule of larvae grew regularly following Dyar’s pattern, with the value approximately 1.42. The bag size of instar 1, instar 2, instar 3, and instar 4 were estimated as a range from 0-2.19 mm; 2.19-3.55 mm; 3.55-6.10 mm; and more than 6.10 mm in length respectively. The bag length was reasonable to be used as a reliable predictor of the instar stage.

Abstract

Insecticide application is a common practice done by farmers to control the whitefly Bemisia tabaci. While the use of insecticide can suppress the whitefly population, the cost of soybean production is also increased. The objective of this research was to compare the whitefly infestation and economic of two whitefly control methods on soybean production. Two sets of experiments were done, one set with insecticide application and another one without insecticide application. Ten soybean cultivars were used in each set of experiment with completely randomized design and three replications. The whitefly infestation was observed weekly on sample plants on each plot. The benefit and R/C ratio were calculated based on revenue and total costs of soybean production. The average whitefly (egg and nymphs) population on the plots with insecticide application was 4.95 for egg and 5.72 for nymph per leaf, which was lower than those without insecticide application 11.76 for egg and 10.86 for nymph per leaf. The average benefit and R/C ratio for the plots with insecticide application were IDR 9,654,507/ha and 1.51 respectively, while the average benefit and R/C ratio for the plots without insecticide application were IDR 8,706,299/ha and 1.55 respectively. The study can be concluded thatgrowing soybean without insecticide treatmentwas more efficient than growing soybean with insecticide applications

Abstract

ABSTRAK The research showed that the sharia banking still used the Law by District Court as an alternative of the settlement for the Sharia banking disputes because the legal counseling about the forum of settlement for the sharia banking disputes was not effective yet as stipulated in Article 55 Paragraph (1) of the Law No. 21/ 2008 regarding Sharia Banking in conjunction to Article 49 of the Law No. 3/ 2006 regarding the Religious Jurisdiction which states that it assertively gives the absolute authority to the Religious Jurisdiction to receive and settle the sharia economic disputes including the sharia banking disputes; there is a factor of the readiness of the Religious Jurisdiction to settle the sharia banking disputes;the next factor was that the judge of the District Court did not refuse the lawsuit addressed to him even though it was obvious that the absolute authority is possessed by the Religious Jurisdiction; another factor was that there was lack of trust from the customers of sharia banks to the Religious Jurisdiction; because the Religious Jurisdiction was so far considered to only settle the divorce cases. Furthermore, the results also showed that the judge viewed that these provisions are contrary to Article 28D Paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution explaining that every person shall have the right of recognition, guarantees, protection and certainty before a just law, and of equal treatment before the law. The settlement for the sharia banking disputes in accordance with the contract contents after the Constitutional Court Verdict No. 93/PUU-X/2012 tend to have changed the clausal forum for the dispute settlement, which previously referred to the District Court, now it refers to the Religious Jurisdiction and Basyarnas (National Sharia Arbitration Agency). It can be seen in the contracts made at some Sharia Banks in Indonesia, such as Bank Syariah Mandiri, Bank BRI Syariah, Bank Muamalat Syariah, Bank Sumut Syariah, and Bank BTN Syariah.   Keywords: Settlement for Sharia Banking Dispute, Contract Contents, Constitutional Court Verdict

Abstract

Soybeans compsumsion in Indonesia is about 2.7 million ton, while the national production is only about 0.7 million ton per year. There are some problems in the soybean production in Indonesia, including pests and diseases. Whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), is one of the important pests in soybeans causes a significant loss of yields. Developing soybean cultivars resistant to whitefly is one of method to reduce the production loss. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the physical characteristics of lower surface leaves and B. tabaci population on five local soybean cultivars. The experiments were conducted in the IPB greenhouse by Completely Randomized Design (RCD) using five soybean cultivars (Anjasmoro, Dena-1, Detam-3, Devon-1, and Wilis) with 3 replicates. Three plants of each cultivar were planted in a polybag, put under a cage, and after one week then infested with 5 female whiteflies. The parameters observed in this study were leaf epidermal thickness; density and length of trichome on lower leaf surface; and the number of egg, nymph, and adult of the whitefly. Observations were carried out every week, from 1−7 weeks after the plant was infested with the whitefly. The population of whitefly was affected by trichome density and length, as well as by the epidermal thickness of the lower leaf surface. The infestation of B. tabaci was higher in the soybean cultivars with denser and longer leaf trichomes, and thinner epidermal of the lower leaf surface. This result of this research suggests that it is necessary to include the characteristics of leaf trichome and epidermal thickness in the breeding program to produce soybean cultivars that are superior in productivity and resistant to whitefly.

Abstract

Banana aphid, Pentalonia nigronervosa Coquerel (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is known as vector of Banana bunchy top virus (BBTV) that threatening production of banana worldwide. It was reported recently that P. nigronervosa and P. caladii is “cryptic species”.  A good and proper identification is necessary to verify the correct species and its status. Research was conducted to identify and to find the host range of banana aphids in Java. Aphid collection was conducted in several locations in West Java, Central Java, and East Java. Eleven morphometric characters were analyzed to assess the morphometric variations among banana aphids. Morphological identification and principle component analysis (PCA) approach were conducted for accurate identification of banana aphids. Two species of aphids were found during the survey in Java, i.e. P. nigronervosa and P. caladii. P. nigronervosa mostly infested bananas (Musa spp.), and a few was found on heliconia (Heliconia sp.) and banana traveler (Ravenala madagascariensis). In contrast, P. caladii generally infested taro (Colocasia esculenta), turmeric (Curcuma longa), costus (Costus sp.), dumbcane (Dieffenbachia sp.), but rarely on bananas.

Abstract

Abstract

Effect of different agroecosystem management on community structure of insects in soybean crop in Ngale, Ngawi District, East Java. Insect community structures in agroecosystem may always change. Agroecosystem management techniques affect insect community structure. The aim of this study was to determine the diversity and composition of insects on soybean plants under different pest management systems and varieties. The experiment design was split plot with varieties (Anjasmoro and Wilis) as the main plots and pest management systems (Integrated Pest Management (IPM), Non-Chemical Management (P-NK), Chemical Management (P-K), and Control) as the sub plots. There were ten insect sampling sessions for each plot. Samplings were done in June until September 2013 using pitfall traps, sticky traps, sweep net, and yellow pan traps. Statistically the results of experiment showed that varieties and pest management had no significant differences to the insects diversity. Herbivore and beneficial insect in soybean crop had differences composition between varieties Anjasmoro and Wilis. In both soybean Anjasmoro and Wilis varieties, herbivore populations tend to be higher in the control plots compared to the IPM plots. Abundance of decomposers, parasitoids, and predators tend to be higher in the control and P-NK plots which were without the use of synthetic insecticides compared to the IPM and P-K plots which were given the treatment of synthetic pesticides. This indicates that the use of pesticides causes decrease in the beneficial insect populations such as pollinator, parasitoids, and predators.

Abstract

The study of host range and population dynamic of B. tabaci in red chili pepper fiel dswas conducted in Sub-district of Pakem, District of Sleman, Province of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta during dry season of May-October 2009. The study of host plants of B. tabaci from the red chili pepper fields revealed that there were 27 species of host plants belong to 22 genera of 13 families including crops and weeds. The host plants belong to families of Araceae, Amaranthaceae, Asteraceae, Brassicaceae, Capparidaceae, Convolvulaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Lamiaceae, Oxalidaceae, Papilionaceae, Rubiaceae, Solanaceae and Sterculiaceae. The host plant families of Asteraceae and Euphorbiaceae had the most abundant population of B. tabaci. Geminivirus-like symptoms were found in the weeds of A. conyzoides and A. boehmerioides. Population of B. tabaci adults correlated with abundance of host plant species found in the red chili pepper fields. The population of B. tabaci in red chili pepper fields was affected by natural enemy population. Population dynamic of the parasitoid Eretmocerus sp. correlated with population dynamic of the parasitized nymph of B. tabaci. Parasitoid Eretmocerus sp. was potentially good in controlling population of B. tabaci nymph in red chili pepper fields.
