Abstract

Introduction:Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that requires long-term treatment and high adherence. Patients' self-care ability plays an important role in the success of TB therapy; however, various social and demographic factors may influence the level of self-care. Objective: The study aims to analyze factors associated with self-care ability among tuberculosis patients. Method: The study used a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. Sample size 80 tuberculosis patients were selected using simple purposive sampling, and data were collected through questionnaires. The main instrument used was the Self-Care of Tuberculosis Questionnaire consisting of 29 items with a Likert scale, along with a respondent identity questionnaire for sociodemographic variables. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 25.0. Univariate analysis was used to describe respondent characteristics, and the Chi-Square test was used to determine the relationship between sociodemographic variables and self-care levels. Results: The results showed that most respondents had low levels of self-care. There were significant relationships between age (p = 0.000), gender (p = 0.003), education (p = 0.000), and income (p = 0.000) with self-care levels. Meanwhile, marital status (p = 0.201) and occupation (p = 0.073) did not show significant relationships as the p-values > 0.05. Conclusion: Self-care among tuberculosis patients is influenced by factors such as age, gender, education, and income. Therefore, healthcare services need to consider these sociodemographic aspects to support treatment success.
