Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of self-regulation in enhancing mathematical literacy among high school students solving PISA Space and Shape problems. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through self-regulation questionnaires, PISA-based tasks, and semi-structured interviews from high school students categorized into high, moderate, and low self-regulation groups. The data analysis technique in this study consisting of three stages: data condensation, data display, and conclusion. Results reveal a strong correlation between self-regulation and mathematical literacy, with high self-regulation students excelling in formulating, employing, and interpreting mathematical problems. Moderate self-regulation students displayed partial success, while low self-regulation students struggled significantly, particularly in interpreting and validating solutions. The study underscores the importance of self-regulation strategies such as goal-setting, monitoring, and reflection in improving mathematical literacy. Instructional recommendations include structured goal-setting frameworks, reflective practices, and scaffolded tasks to support learners with varying self-regulation levels. These findings contribute to mathematics education by addressing the interplay between self-regulation and problem-solving in the underexplored Space and Shape domain. Future research should expand on these insights through larger, longitudinal studies to further validate the implications of self-regulation in educational contexts.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the geometric shapes and structures found in the Uma Lengge traditional house with a qualitative approach based on the ethnographic model. This research was conducted in Maria Village, Wawo Sub-district, which was chosen because of the existence of the Uma Lengge traditional house and its role in cultural preservation and the development of the tourism sector. The problem raised in this research is the lack of studies linking the architectural design of Uma Lengge with mathematical concepts, especially within the framework of ethnomathematics, which has the potential to provide new insights into the relationship between culture and science. Respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique, including custodians, cultural experts, and conservationists who have in-depth knowledge of the history and construction of Uma Lengge. Data collection was conducted through direct observation, literature study, and in-depth interviews. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and verification to ensure the validity and reliability of research findings. The results show that the architectural design of Uma Lengge combines geometric concepts in flat and spatial shapes, including patterns of triangles, squares, rectangles, triangular prisms, cubes, blocks, and pyramid frustums. These geometric structures not only reflect beauty and function, but also reflect local wisdom in the use of traditional mathematical concepts. This research makes an important contribution in expanding the understanding of ethnomathematics as part of cultural heritage that can be integrated into the mathematics learning process. It is recommended to conduct more comprehensive follow-up research on the application of other mathematical concepts, as well as develop ethnomathematics-based learning modules to increase students' appreciation of mathematics in a cultural context.

Abstract

Peer interaction among primary school students is a natural social phenomenon, especially during break times, which provide students with the freedom to build relationships without academic pressure. Existing empirical studies have focused more on student interaction in the context of formal classroom learning, so that the spontaneous social dynamics and subjective experiences of students during break times have not been explored in depth. This study aims to examine the role of peer interaction in shaping the psychosocial development of primary school students during recess. The research used a qualitative approach with a descriptive design and was conducted at SD Inpres Nontotera, Bima Regency. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with the principal, classroom teachers, and students, as well as supporting documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that peer interactions contributed to the development of empathy, social skills, and emotional regulation.

Abstract

Mathematics is often perceived as a discipline that is separate from everyday reality and has little connection to the cultural context of society. Historically, however, mathematics grew and developed from the social practices of communities, including local culinary traditions. Sasak traditional snacks, as part of cultural heritage, not only have aesthetic and symbolic value, but also contain mathematical structures that can be studied to bring geometric concepts closer to the cultural reality of society. This study aims to identify and analyze the geometric shapes and patterns contained in the traditional snacks of the Sasak community in Montong Tangi Village, East Sakra District, East Lombok Regency, through an ethnomathematics perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design. Data were collected through direct observation and ethnographic interviews with traditional snack makers, traditional leaders, and community leaders who understand Sasak culinary traditions. Data analysis was carried out interactively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, and its validity was tested through source triangulation. The results show that traditional snacks such as cerorot, lupis, jaje abuq, and renggi represent various geometric concepts, including cones, triangular prisms, circles, and triangular pyramids, which are formed through traditional techniques of folding, compacting, and wrapping ingredients. These geometric representations are not only structural in nature, but also contain cultural values such as perseverance, togetherness, and harmony, which are reflected in the traditional practices of the Sasak people. These findings confirm that traditional Sasak snacks have the potential to be a relevant source of contextual learning to enrich culture-based geometry learning.
