Abstract

Long distance marriage is prone to triggering more complex problems if compared to marriages entered into in the same or close geographical conditions or distance. Especially for married couples who are in long distance marriage that crossing the countries, it will certainly be more complicated because it will impact the intensity and quality of communication between the two, considering that there are differences in time zones and the activities that each of they had. Particularly for couples who have just entered the first 0-5 years of marriage, this condition adding risk to the complexity of the conflicts that occur. This research aims to describe in depth how conflict management strategies are carried out by married couples who are in long distance marriage across countries using Conflict Mode Instrument Theory as the main theory, as well as The Interactional View and Relational Dialectics Theory as supporting theories. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach and interpretive paradigm, while the data collection technique used is in-depth interviews. The results of this research showed that the conflict management of long-distance married couples is basically the same as that of live-in couples, but there are differences in the conflict escalation which is greater and more complex. In this study, 2 (two) types of responses were found that emerged during the initial conflict, namely silence and efforts to open up. It can also be seen that all couples seek conflict management with collaboration and compromise, although at the beginning of the conflict there was a temporary avoidance attitude by some informants which then made things worse. The challenges that arise in conflict management efforts are caused by 3 (three) main things, namely the difference in time zones, the husband's busy schedule, and technical signal disruptions that affect the intensity and quality of communication between spouses. Limitations in the distribution of affection and biological needs are also a challenge for couples and it is not uncommon for this to trigger conflict. There are 2 (two) effects of the presence of conflict felt by couples, namely being able to introspect themselves and understand each other better. However, these results only apply in this study and are not necessarily the same as the experiences of other couples in general because differences in couples' responses and conflict management are influenced by internal factors (character) and external (time, opportunity, conditions).

Abstract

The virtual space formed by online game players has both sides, positive and negative. One of the negative impacts is the space for conflict to arise between members. Many conflicts between members start with activities such as chatting and joking, creating sensitivity among members. The messages sent are often considered as hatred (hate speech). Cyberspace causes interactions between individuals to be influenced by the media, making it impossible to know the psychological situation of the other side. This causes an imbalance in social relations in cyberspace. This research aims to determine the maintenance of friendship relationships that take place in the virtual community of Valorant game players without having to meet and find out the individuals who are members of the virtual community in maintaining friendships by managing conflicts that arise. The theory used is the maintenance of friendship relationships, symbolic interactionism theory and relational dialectics theory and uses phenomenological research methods. The results obtained in this research are that maintaining a friendship within a virtual community is not easy and dynamic. Maintenance for the friendship to adapt depends on the individual conditions and not tied to a fixed flow. Furthermore, maintaining a friendship has many factors in it, starting from the form of communication, communication media, commitment formed, handling conflict, and the distance that separates them. Commitment is a major factor in maintaining a longdistance friendship and communication is a crucial aspect in maintaining relationships. Individuals who are members of virtual communities try to be open with each other.

Abstract

Reaching voters in presidential elections frequently involves using identity politics. On the other side, first-time voters might serve as prospective targets for gaining supporters. This study aims to investigate the link between first-time voters' choices for presidential candidates and the social identities (faith, gender, and ethnicity) of presidential candidates. Social Identity Theory is the leading theory that explains the relationship between social identity and political choice preferences. This quantitative survey study looks at the relationship between political candidates' social identities and the preferences of first-time voters in Indonesia in 2023. The study's findings indicate a connection between the presidential and vice-presidential candidates' social identities and the decisions made by first-time voters. For instance, the political choices of first-time voters are directly correlated with their gender, notably whether they will accept or approve of female presidents and vice presidents. The study's findings indicate that first-time voters are open to electing a female president. An interesting finding to highlight is how new voters tend to be open to the choice of president and vice president of other religions. Most first-time voters (respondents) accept presidents and vice presidents from minority religions such as Catholics, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Confucians, and local religions.

Abstract

The Cheng Ho Mosque in Surabaya is the study's main point since it is a cultural artifact with a structural layout and social objectives that combine Chinese and Islamic traditions. The Cheng Ho Mosque is a cultural object, as well as a social arena that represents hybrid culture. The cultural artifact serves as essential for understanding how social interaction takes place in an environment with symbols representing cultural hybridity. This study aims to show how Cheng Ho Mosque, as a cultural artifact, develops significance and becomes part of a cultural group's daily existence. The main theoretical framework used in this study is Cultural Identity Theory. Cultural semiotics is the research method that is being used. The study's findings suggest that the cultural semiotic frame analysis of the artifacts indicates three distinct characteristics of Surabaya's Cheng Ho Mosque: a religious place, a commercial space, and a social space. Worship activities including prayer, reading the Holy Qur'an, and recitation are all part of the interactions in the mosque's main function. The architecture of the buildings surrounding the mosque, meanwhile, was designed to reflect the business culture and network of the Chinese community in Surabaya and the area, including the use of corporate sponsors for events that are not just religious but also for general community activities including sports and gatherings of the Surabaya Chinese community. The Cheng Ho Mosque is an artifact that represents the distinctive features of Chinese Muslims as a subculture.

Abstract

This study examines the politainment strategy employed by the X account @aniesbubble in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election campaign. The account adopts a communication style inspired by K-Pop fandom, presenting Anies Baswedan as an idol-like figure to attract Generation Z voters. This research utilizes a qualitative approach with content analysis as the method. The study aims to analyze how the Anies Bubble account integrates the ten elements of politainment formulated by David Schultz into its posts during the 2024 presidential campaign. The findings indicate that @aniesbubble incorporates nine out of ten elements, such as engaging storytelling, emotional involvement, and media modernity, to enhance Anies Baswedan’s appeal—particularly in reshaping his image and mobilizing public support. However, certain elements, such as building future expectations and swaying swing voters, were less optimized, while the element of securing funding was not identified. This study concludes that the politainment strategy employed by @aniesbubble demonstrates the potential of an organic and culturally relevant approach in shaping political perceptions, with the ability to reach a broader audience in the digital era and improve politicians public image.
