Abstract

Abstract

Traffic accidents can lead to medical emergencies that threaten the health and safety of victims. Immediate, appropriate treatment is crucial to minimize severe bodily harm, disability, or death. Traffic police, as first responders at the scene, can provide critical first aid before professional medical personnel arrive, relying on their adequate knowledge and skills. This study aims to assess the knowledge of traffic police in providing first aid to accident victims. This quantitative descriptive study was conducted on 83 traffic police officers in Banjarmasin, selected using total sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, and the analysis was carried out using frequency distribution. Among the 83 respondents, 61 (73%) had sufficient knowledge, 18 (22%) had good knowledge, and 8 (5%) had poor knowledge. These findings highlight the need for educational interventions to improve the respondents' knowledge in providing first aid during traffic accidents.

Abstract

Private nursing schools in South Kalimantan face increasing pressure to produce high-quality, ethically driven nursing professionals, aligning with Indonesia’s “Golden Vision 2045.” Within this context, the "Macbeth effect"—a psychological phenomenon where individuals experience guilt, anxiety, or a compulsion to "cleanse" themselves after confronting morally ambiguous situations—poses a challenge to ethical leadership. This study investigates the manifestation of the "Macbeth Effect"—the compulsion to morally cleanse oneself following ethically ambiguous situations—among leaders of private nursing schools in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with five school leaders to capture their experiences and perceptions of moral responsibility and ethical decision-making. Thematic analysis was employed to identify key themes, focusing on how the Macbeth Effect shapes leadership behavior, decision-making processes, and organizational dynamics within nursing education institutions. Findings reveal that leaders frequently exhibit moral cleansing behaviors, such as self-evaluation, transparency in decision-making, and using mediators to handle conflicts. While the Macbeth Effect enhances ethical leadership practices, it also introduces challenges that may impact mental well-being and leadership efficacy. Practical strategies, including promoting a culture of transparency, emotional support, and task delegation, are recommended to mitigate the psychological burden associated with moral cleansing. This research contributes to understanding ethical leadership in nursing education and highlights the need for support systems to sustain leaders’ mental resilience and ethical commitment.

Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) remain a major public health issue, largely driven by low consumption of nutritious food and limited protein intake. This community service program aimed to enhance awareness and skills in NCD prevention among residents of Sungai Pinang Baru Village through health education and freshwater fish cultivation using floating net cages (keramba apung) along the Martapura River. The activities included health education, technical training, installation of floating cages, stocking of catfish and tilapia fingerlings, and continuous mentoring. Results showed an increase in community knowledge of NCD prevention from 33.3% to 80%, and in fish farming practices from 38% to 83%. A total of 10 floating cages were successfully installed with active participation from local health cadres and youth groups. This program effectively improved nutritional awareness, fish farming skills, and created new economic opportunities for riverside communities. The integrative approach is expected to serve as a model for sustainable community empowerment based on health promotion and local food resilience. Keywords: non-communicable diseases, fish farming, floating net cages, health education, riverside community

Abstract

Indonesia is still among the 10 countries with the highest number of tuberculosis cases in the world. Prevention, treatment, and tracing efforts have been carried out, but many new cases are still being found. Handling tuberculosis cases is a shared responsibility and requires cross-sector collaboration. One of the sectors currently involved is the Ministry of Education and Culture, through the Tuberculosis-Aware Schools Program. The TB-Conscious School Program is the embodiment of GEBER towards the elimination of TB by 2030 in educational institutions. Based on coordination with the Sungai Bilu Community Health Center, it was deemed necessary to hold a GEBER event at SMK Wirakrama 1 Banjarmasin. The purpose of this activity was to increase synergy between educational institutions and health services in the context of implementing GEBER through health education and TB detection in school children. The methods used were lectures, demonstrations, and sputum sampling for examination. This activity was attended by 46 students, with males making up the majority at 58%. Based on the evaluation results, there was an increase in participants' knowledge, with the majority (58.7%) scoring “adequate” on the pre-test and 100% scoring “good” on the post-test. The conclusion is that GEBER represents the active participation of various parties in TB management.
