Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic infectious disease caused by bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) and usually attacks the lungs. Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 causes of death globally. Indonesia is still ranked third in the world and is one of the biggest challenges facing Indonesia and requires attention from all parties, because it causes a high burden of morbidity and mortality. One effort that can be made is strengthening the understanding of TB among health cadres who are part of health services in the community. The service activities carried out include measuring prior knowledge (pre test and post test), counseling for posyandu cadres with the aim of information obtained by health cadres being disseminated to sufferers and their families in the community. The activity was attended by 10 health cadres, after the outreach there was a 30% increase in knowledge about tuberculosis. Keywords: health cadres, counseling, tuberculosis.

Abstract

Background: Depression is highly prevalent among tuberculosis (TB) patients, with reported rates reaching 31-61%, and it is strongly associated with poor medication adherence and adverse treatment outcomes. Despite this considerable burden, mental health screening for TB patients has not yet been integrated into routine TB care. Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors associated with depression among TB patients. Methods: This secondary data analysis used the Survei Kesehatan Indonesia (SKI) or Indonesian Health Survey 2023 with a cross-sectional design. A total sampling approach was applied, to all TB patients who met the inclusion criteria, resulting in 1,163 respondents. Statistical analyses included the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The prevalence of depression among TB patients was 5.38% (95% CI: 3.26–8.76%). Multivariate analysis showed that being female [aPOR = 15.90, 95% CI (1.99-143.09)], age 15-40 years [aPOR = 5.80, 95% CI (1.17-28.67)], TB treatment duration ≤6 months [aPOR = 5.22, 95% CI (1.67-16.34)], smoking [aPOR = 11.33, 95% CI (2.07-61.97)], and stress [aPOR = 39.04, 95% CI (11.23-135.66)] were significantly associated with depression in TB patients. Stress was identified as the most influential factor. Conclusion: Depression remains a relevant issue among TB patients in Indonesia, with stress emerging as the strongest associated factor. Routine depression screening and integrated mental health support within TB programs are strongly warranted, particularly for high-risk groups such as women, younger adults, patients in the early phase of treatment, smokers, and those experiencing stress.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the leading infectious causes of death worldwide and continues to pose a major public health challenge. The disease is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is transmitted through airborne droplets when infected individuals cough or speak. Without treatment, TB has a mortality rate of approximately 50%; however, about 85% of patients can be successfully treated with anti-tuberculosis drugs administered for 4–6 months according to standard guidelines. Indonesia is among the eight countries contributing the highest number of TB cases globally, yet national treatment adherence remains suboptimal. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with medication regularity among pulmonary TB patients in Indonesia using data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey. A cross-sectional design was applied using secondary data from respondents aged ≥15 years who had been diagnosed with TB and received treatment, with a weighted sample of 667,421 individuals. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate (Rao-Scott Chi-Square), and multivariate logistic regression with backward elimination. The prevalence of regular medication intake was 72.21%. Education level, residence, presence of a treatment supervisor (PMO), type of therapy, and comorbidities were significantly associated with medication regularity. Multivariate analysis identified the presence of a PMO as the most dominant factor, followed by higher education and absence of comorbidities. Strengthening treatment supervision and implementing Health Belief Model–based health education are essential to support the 2030 TB elimination target in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a critical developmental period marked by biological, psychological, and social changes that increase vulnerability to mental-emotional disorders. Mental-emotional disorders among adolescents may impair academic performance, social relationships, and overall well-being. In Indonesia, particularly at the regional level, evidence regarding comprehensive biopsychosocial determinants among junior high school students remains limited. Purpose: To identify the biopsychosocial determinants associated with mental-emotional disorders among adolescents. Method: A cross-sectional design conducted from May to November 2025. A total of 101 students were selected using proportional stratified random sampling. Mental-emotional disorders were measured using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Independent variables included physical activity, sleep quality, academic burnout, smartphone addiction, peer support, bullying, parenting style, and sex. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the chi-square test and prevalence ratio (PR) at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The prevalence of mental-emotional disorders among students was 41.6%. Significant associations were found between mental-emotional disorders and low physical activity (PR=2.7; 95% CI: 1.750–4.393), poor sleep quality (PR=2.4; 95% CI: 1.483–3.974), high academic burnout (PR=2.5; 95% CI: 1.604–4.162), smartphone addiction (PR=1.9; 95% CI: 1.269–3.109), low peer support (PR=1.8; 95% CI: 1.150–3.032), and experiences of bullying (PR=13.7; 95% CI: 4.558–41.760). Sex and parenting style were not significantly associated with mental-emotional disorders. Conclusion: Mental-emotional disorders among adolescents are significantly influenced by multiple biopsychosocial factors, particularly lifestyle behaviors, academic stress, peer relationships, and bullying experiences. School-based promotive and preventive interventions focusing on physical activity, sleep hygiene, stress management, strengthening peer support, and bullying prevention are strongly recommended. Abstract

The health status of the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) community remains a serious concern, particularly regarding mortality, morbidity, nutrition, and reproductive health. Nutritional problems among toddlers, adolescents, women of reproductive age, and the wider community continue to contribute to poor health outcomes. In addition, childbirth and reproductive health complications are still major factors causing high infant mortality rates within SAD communities. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mentoring and educational interventions for SAD Posyandu cadres in improving their knowledge and practical skills. The study used a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design and was conducted at the SAD community hall in Dwi Karya Bakti Village, Pelepat District, Bungo Regency, Jambi. The study population consisted of all SAD Posyandu cadres, totaling 19 participants. Most cadres were unemployed, with 6 men (31.6%) and 13 women (68.4%). Fourteen participants (73.7%) had low educational backgrounds, while 5 participants (26.3%) had higher education levels. The youngest respondent was 12 years old, and the oldest was 31 years old, with an average age of 18.53 years and a standard deviation of 5.037 years. Statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0.002 (<0.05), indicating a significant increase in knowledge after the educational intervention. Therefore, continuous mentoring and training are recommended to strengthen cadre competencies and sustain independent health services. Strengthening community participation through regular Posyandu activities may also help reduce preventable diseases, maternal complications, and infant deaths among SAD families.

Abstract

The success rate of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) treatment in Jambi Province has not yet reached the target. This study aims to determine factors contributing to treatment success in patients with rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB) in Jambi Province. The study was conducted in Jambi Province using a retrospective cohort design. Data were obtained from the Tuberculosis Information System (SITB) for the period 2020–2023. A total of 122 patients were included using a total sampling technique. The inclusion criteria comprised patients who received treatment between 2020 and 2023 with complete data. Exclusion criteria included patients who had not completed treatment, had incomplete or duplicate data, or whose treatment outcomes had not been evaluated. The instrument used was the TB RO.03 report. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test and log-linear Poisson regression. The treatment success rate for RR-TB was 61.5%. Age was significantly associated with treatment success, with an adjusted relative risk (aRR) of 1.65 (95% CI: 1.03–2.66). In contrast, no significant associations were found between treatment success and gender, history of previous treatment, anti-tuberculosis drug regimen, diabetes mellitus status, or HIV status. Age was identified as the most dominant factor influencing treatment success. Therefore, special attention should be given to patients aged over 50 years to improve TB treatment outcomes.
