Abstract

Because they allow for the use of the scientific method in performing inquiries and are anticipated to be able to pick up new information, science process skills are crucial for pupils. This study's goal was to explain how well students could apply their knowledge of marine environmental physics to static fluid content for class XI SMA Negeri 2 Dumai. This kind of study uses a non-equivalent posttest only control group design in a quasi-experimental setting. All 288 students in class XI at SMA Negeri 2 Dumai were included in the population. To identify the populace, a simple random sampling technique is employed. The experimental group's posttest mean score for scientific process skills (M = 61.80, SD=11.92) is greater than the control group's posttest mean score for those same skills (M = 50.35, SD=13.63). According to the findings, classes using marine contextual learning have better pupil scientific process skills than classes using traditional learning. When viewed from a gender viewpoint, there is no clear variation between the science process skills of male and female students.

Abstract

Science education in Indonesia faces challenges in increasing students' scientific literacy, especially at the secondary level. One of the problems faced is the lack of student involvement in science learning relevant to their context. This research aims to improve the scientific literacy skills of class VIII students at SMPN 4 Dumai by applying science-physics learning based on coastal fishermen's activities on work and energy material. The research method used is experimental research using 2 class groups, namely the experimental and control classes. The population of this research was class VIII students at SMPN 4 Dumai. The instrument used to collect data was the results of students' scientific literacy ability tests. The results of the research show that the application of science-physics learning based on coastal fishing activities results in higher scientific literacy abilities and increases significantly. Apart from that, the application of this learning can increase students' interest in linking their daily lives with learning material. Science-physics learning based on coastal fishing activities is effective in increasing students' scientific literacy in work and energy material for class VIII junior high school students.

Abstract

Abstract

Shellfish (Menongkah Kerang) scientific literacy is the ability to understand physics concepts and processes integrated with local culture and wisdom in Tanah Merah, Riau. Menongkah kerang activities are one of the cultures that have existed for generations in Tanah Merah, Riau and it has been identified that menongkah kerang activities have scientific potential that can be explained scientifically. This research aims to identify the level of physics literacy of the menongkah kerang tradition of students at SMP Negeri 1 Tanah Merah, SMP Negeri 3 Tanah Merah and MTS YPI Kuala Enok. The type of research used is survey research with a quantitative descriptive approach. The sample in the study was 158 students consisting of 76 male students and 82 female students. The instrument in this research was a physics science literacy test on menongkah kerang which consisted of 20 multiple-choice questions with a KR-20 reliability coefficient of 0.74. Descriptive analysis techniques were used to determine the level of physics science literacy in the shellfishmenongkah kerang competition sub-context. The results of descriptive and inferential analysis show that the level of physics science literacy of Menongkah Kerang students has an average total score of 52.27. Based on gender, it was identified that male students have better physics science literacy skills than female students. There are differences in scores based on gender, there are significant differences. In general, it is concluded that the level of physics science literacy of Junior High School students in Tanah Merah District in the menongkah kerang activity is still in the low category and gender affects the level of students' science literacy.

Abstract

This study presents the application of fiber bragg grating (FBG) sensors coated with polyimide for detecting carbon dioxide (CO₂) gas, employing both theoretical and experimental approaches. The basic FBG components were coated with polyimide layers of varying thicknesses. Subsequently, the fabricated FBG sensors were characterized using an optical interrogator system with four channels. Furthermore, the sensor was tested for CO₂ detection at a working temperature of 47 °C. Experimental data showed that the FBG sensor coated with polyimide layers of 10 nm, 15 nm, and 20 nm demonstrated sensitivities of 1.9 ppm, 1.84 ppm, and 1.8 ppm, respectively. In contrast, the uncoated FBG sensor exhibited a higher sensitivity of 3 ppm. Increasing the coating thickness beyond 20 nm leads to a decrease in sensor sensitivity. The findings suggest that an optimal polyimide coating thickness for CO₂ detection using FBG sensors is around 20 nm. Achieving high sensitivity in CO₂ gas sensors is crucial for their effective use across a broad range of applications.
