Abstract

Pegagan is an excellent plant used as a raw material for traditional medicine. The bioactive content in pegagan leaves plays a role in the wound healing process, able to cure complex dermatitis in dogs, proven as neuroprotective, and can reduce oxidative stress of body cells. Many efficacies make pegagan leaves have the potential to be produced into various forms of medicinal preparation. This study will calculate the number of microbes’ contamination in pegagan leaves which will be used as various drug preparations and then compare it to the General Standard Parameters for Medical Plant Extracts of the Ministry of Health of Republic Indonesia in 2000 and Regulation of the Head of BPOM RI Number 32 of 2019. The examination of microbial contamination was carried out through the Total Plate Count and Yeast Fungus Test. The research data obtained were quantitative data that were analyzed by counting the number of microbes that grow on PCA and PDA after incubation at the appropriate growth temperatures. The results of this study show that the Total Plate Count from the sample was 3250 CFU/gr and the Yeast Fungus Test was 450 CFU/gr. The number of Total Plate Count has fulfilled the requirements for the Oral Drugs (£105 colony/gr) and required for Semi Solid Drugs (£107 colony/gr). The number of Yeast Fungus Test are required for Oral Drugs (£103 colony/gr) and required for Semi Solid Drugs (£104 colony/gr).

Abstract

Chronic apical periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that causes periodontal tissue destruction and forms chronic lesions. This study aims to prove that the administration of green meniran leaf ethanol extract can affect the kidney histopathology of chronic apical periodontitis Wistar rats. This study used a randomized posttest only control group design with four treatment groups and twelve replications of three sub-groups according to the time of application of the medicament paste, namely the 7th, 14th, and 21st days so that 48 Wistar rats were used. The treatment group consisted of negative control (K1), only injected with disease-causing bacteria. The positive control group was given 2% Calcium Hydroxide and Chlorhexidine digluconate. Treatment group 1(P1) was given calcium hydroxide and 10% green meniran leaf ethanol extract, and treatment group 2(P2) was given calcium hydroxide, 2% chlorhexidine digluconate, and 10% green meniran leaf ethanol extract. All samples were male Wistar rats with a weight ranging from 300-350 grams. The variables observed were congestion and necrosis with a score of 0 (normal); 1 (focal); 2 (multifocal); 3 (diffuse). The data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric statistical test and if it showed a significant effect, it was continued with the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed that in the K2, P1, and P2 treatments, there was a significant difference (P<0.05) in the category of congestion and necrosis of the histopathological changes of the kidneys. The results of this study indicate that the ethanol extract of green meniran leaves which has a function as an antioxidant can repair kidney damage caused by free radicals in chronic apical periodontitis conditions

Abstract

Dental disease is a problem that is common in Indonesia, and it affects around 96.58% of the population. The use of chemical drugs that can cause side effects in patients makes people start other alternative treatments by using natural ingredients namely meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L). This study examines the liver histopathology of Wistar rats with chronic apical periodontitis after administration of intracanal drugs. This study looked at the effects of a medicament paste on rats for a period of seven, fourteen, and twenty-one days. Experimental animals were adapted to chronic apical periodontitis by inducing Enterococcus faecalis into right maxillary molars for 21 days.On day 22, all drug treatment groups were opened with GIC and given the prescribed drug treatment, and then closed again with GIC. The observed variables were the presence of inflammatory cell infiltration, hyperemia, and necrosis. Data were analyzed using a non-parametric statistical Kruskal-Wallis test, and if there was a significant difference, it was continued with the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the study showed that there was no significant difference between the three treatment groups (P1, P2, P3) and there was a significant difference between P0 and the other two groups. However, the results of statistical analysis of necrosis observed by histopathology in the liver showed that there was no significant difference between P0, P1, P2 and P3 treatments (P>0.05).From the research results, it can be concluded that administration of meniran leaves ethanolic extract can improve liver histopathology in rats with chronic apical periodontitis.

Abstract

Gastrointestinal helminth parasites in animals can be zoonotic-parasitic. This study aims to determine the efficacy of polyherbal oil formulations against intestinal worm parasites of Kintamani dogs. This study used 24 Kintamani Dogs aged 3-6 months which were kept by releasing them into the wild. The anthelmintic potency of polyherbal oil formulations was determined by measuring Eggs Per Gram of feces (EPG), using the Modified Stoll Dilution method before and seven days after treatment. P0 as control was given a placebo, while groups P1, P2, and P3 were given Polyherbal oil at doses of 300, 600, and 900 mg/kg body weight for three consecutive days. The results showed that there was a decrease in the EPG value sequentially P0, P1, P2, and P3 which was -4%, 23.1%, 66.7%, and 81.3%. Based on the identification of worm eggs, it was shown that the efficacy of polyherbal oil against Toxocara canis decreased EPG at P1, P2, and P3 by 26.09%, 73.33%, and 86.08%. Against Ancylostomata spp respectively at P1, P2 and P3 caused a decrease in EPG of 17.39%, 52.63%, and 72.0%. Against Strongyl spp worms respectively at P1, P2 and P3 caused a decrease in EPG by 16.67%, 58.82%, and 73.68%. Statistical analysis showed that polyherbal oil had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the decrease in EPG. We can conclude that the polyherbal oil formulation has vermicidal efficacy against intestinal worm parasites in Kintamani dog puppies.

Abstract

A 14-year-old black male Poodle was brought to the Animal Teaching Hospital, Udayana University by its owner with clinical signs of frequent licking of its left front paw. Upon examination, red bumps were observed on the left front leg, accompanied by small, round black spots scattered on the dorsal side of the body. Additionally, black nodules were present on the lower eyelids and hind limbs. Surgical intervention was undertaken to excise the tumor mass, with the animal under anesthesia induced by ketamine at 5 mg/kg BW intravenously. The reddish nodule was excised by performing an elliptical incision at the base of tumor. Postoperatively, the animal received an antibacterial injection comprising ceftriaxone and tazobactam at 25 mg/kg BW intramuscularly and antiseptic wound dressing for supportive care. Microscopic examination revealed neoplastic cells arranged into lobules of varying sizes and shapes within the tumor mass. These lobules consisted of differentiated sebocytes and basaloid cells. At the periphery of the neoplastic lobules, the basaloid cells displayed several layers and exhibited invasion with moderate anisocytosis. The mitotic index was no more than ten cells in one field of view. Based on these histopathological features, the tumor was confirmed to be a sebaceous adenoma. After a 10-month follow-up period, there were no signs of tumor recurrence observed.

Abstract

Aspergillus sp are fungi that commonly caused a systemic respiratory infection in Human and Dog. In Bali, most of the dog are free-roaming dogs, and has poor skin health condition. Some of them are suspected with fungal infection. Aspergillus sp has high risk to infect the dog, because they are available everywhere in environment. Therefore, this research is conducted for adding primary data of Aspergillus sp isolated from dog’s skin and their prevalence. The samples are 15 free-roaming Bali dogs with suspected fungal infection. Identification was carried out by using microscopic and macroscopic observation methods, skin swab was taken from the dog’s skin using the Mackenzie method, and the sterile toothbrush swab gently from the dog’s skin to the Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) media. The fungi were cultured on SDA media for macroscopic identification for approximately 3-4 days, mostly to observe how the fungal colony grew and its color. Microscopic identification are using adhesive tape, the tape was gently pressed into the fungal colony, the tape was stuck into the surface of object-glass with 3-4 drops of Methylene Blue staining, and the object glass was examined by using a light microscope, the findings of Aspergillus sp fungi are recorded and the data are descriptively presented. The result shows that most Aspergillus species that were found is Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus niger according to their colonies growth and microscopic appearance, and the prevalence from 15 samples were 53.33%.
