Abstract

Extracellular matrix (ECM) is currently one of the most commonly used scaffolds for tissue engineering procedures. Extracellular Matrix (ECM) can originate from the submucosa of the small intestine or vesica urinaria (urinary bladder) of a pig. The purpose of this study was to determine the suitability and safety level of using pig’s vesica urinaria as an extracellular matrix to the process of healing open wounds in white rats and to find out the changes that occurred in the implant area after administration of urine vesica powder which was observed macroscopically. Thirty-two male white rats to be used in the study were adapted environmentally for 1 week and given commercial feed (pellet brand 552) and adlibitum drinking water. Rats were divided into two groups of 12 each. Group I (treatment) of 12 rats in the back area were injured with a scalpel blade 2mm deep and 2 cm long and treated with extracellular matrix material derived from pig’s vesica urinaria. Group II (control) ie 12 treated rats were the same as group I and were not treated. Monitoring the safety of the matrix material then observing the development of wound healing at 24 hours, day 5, day 10, and day 15 postoperatively by observing macros (redness, swelling, and scab). The results of the examination showed that the administration of extracellular matrix material accelerated the wound healing process compared to the control group with a perfect closed wound mark on the 15th day.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the histopathological picture of the liver of white rats due to the treatment of yeast at several different doses. A total of 24 white rats were randomly divided into 4 treatment groups, namely P0: control; P1: giving yeast of 100 mg/kg BW; P2: 200 mg/kg BW; and P3: 300 mg/kg BW. The treatment dose was carried out for 21 days. On the 22nd day, all samples got euthanasia and a necropsy procedure was performed. The liver organs were taken to make histological preparations by staining with Hematoxylin Eosin. The variables observed included fatty degeneration and necrosis. The data obtained were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that the administration of yeast at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW, 200 mg/kg BW, and 300 mg/kg BW was not significantly different (P>0.05) compared to the control (P0). It can be concluded that threating by yeast up to a dose of 300 mg/kg BW does not cause histopathological changes in the liver of white rats.

Abstract

Bali grapes are a source of antioxidants with high flavonoids and anthocyanins, which have many health benefits such as lowering cholesterol and anti-cancer, inhibiting aging, and protecting the heart. Many people consume Balinese grapes by eating directly, drink in the form of juice or extract form because of its benefits. The purpose of this study was to determine the sub-acute toxicity of the ethanol extract of bali grapes (Vitis vinera cv. Alphonso lavelle) to changes in SGOT and SGPT of male Wistar rat liver. This test includes a sub-acute toxicity test and a pharmacological effect test. This research is an experimental study with a completely randomized design using a post-test-only control group design. The number of white rats used in this study were 24 rats, which were divided into four groups of control groups, groups of mice given ethanol extract of bali grapes 0.3 g / ml/kg BW (P1), groups of mice given ethanol extract of grapes bali 3 g / ml/kg BW (P2), and the group of rats that were given 30 g / ml kg BW (P3) of ethanol extract of bali grapes. Each group consisted of 6 white male rats. In this study, the grape ethanol extract was presented orally once per day for 28 days. After 28 days of treatment, Wistar rats were euthanized, and blood samples were taken through Chantus Medial Orbitalis and then put into non-EDTA tubes. The blood sample that has been centrifuged and becomes serum is then inserted into the Eppendorf tube, which is used to test the levels of SGOT and SGPT. The results of the One-Way ANOVA analysis on SGPT levels in the liver of rats showed a significant difference (P <0.05), so that further analysis was necessary using the Duncan-test. Based on the results of the analysis using the Duncan Test, changes occurred in the P3 treatment group of rats given the ethanol extract of Bali grapes at a dose of 30 g / ml/kg BW, which was significantly different from the control treatment group (P0) so that the mixture of these materials was included in the class of materials that were practically non-toxic.

Abstract

Abstract

Ultrasonography is a rapid and non-invasive method for assessing internal organs. The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in ultrasonographic imaging of internal organs between green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and olive ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea). This study used two female green turtles (C. mydas) and two olive ridley turtle (one male and one female) (L. olivacea) with body condition index ranging from Average-Very Good. Micro-convex transducer ultrasonography with frequencies 4.5-8 MHz was used in this study. Acoustic windows were used in this study from cervical dorsal, cervical ventral, cervicobrachial, sinister-dexter, axillary sinister-dexter, prephemoral sinister-dexter and postphemoral sinister-dexter. The necropsies were performed to provide reference data. The results of ultrasonography imaging showed that the jugular vein of the olive ridley turtles (L. olivacea) was wider than the jugular vein of the green turtles (C. mydas). The ultrasonography imaging also showed that the stomach of green turtles (C. mydas) was smooth folds but the stomach of olive ridley turtles (L.olivacea) was sharp folds according to necropsy. There were no differences in the heart, stomach, liver, small intestine, large intestine, and kidneys. Vitellogenic follicles ultrasonography imaging was found from the olive ridley turtles (L. olivacea) which had shown in the period of premating and mating.

Abstract

Bone xenograft from cattle bone is commonly used to treat a comminuted fracture case. This study aims to know the process of fractured-femur bone healing in rabbit post-implantation powder bone graft from cortical femur bone of Bali cattle evaluated by radiographs. Ten male local rabbits were used in this study, which were divided into 2 groups randomly. Group I (KI) as control, the diaphysis of femur bone was drilled with a diameter of 5 mm without implanting the bone graft, while Group II (KII), the diaphysis of femur bone was drilled 2 holes with a diameter of 5 mm each and with distance 20 mm, substituted with mineralized powder bone graft for the proximal hole (KIIa) and demineralized powder bone graft for the distal hole (KIIb). Fracture healing evaluation was done at week 0 (24 hours), 2, 4, and 6 postoperative by monitoring the growth of callus, fracture line, and union process with radiograph based classification according to Hammer et al., tabulated statistically, and presented descriptively. The results showed that KI and KII were in the sequel of fracture healing but had not reached remodeling phase perfectly. In conclusion, mineralized and demineralized powder bone graft used in this study was as osteoconductive and the use of bone graft shows no different significance and time shows different significance to fracture healing.
