Abstract

Controlling drug inventory in hospitals plays an important role in ensuring the continuation of safe, timely, and efficient health services. However, problems such as overstock, out-of-stock, and inefficiency of the distribution process are often the main obstacles that still occur frequently. Lean Six Sigma in drug inventory control in hospitals is an approach that combines Lean and Six Sigma principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and decrease variation in the drug management process. The implementation of Lean Six Sigma aims to overcome problems such as stock out, overstock, and inefficient drug purchases, thereby improving the quality of pharmaceutical services in hospitals. Methods: This literature study used a combination of keywords "six", "sigma", lean", "inventory", "pharmacy", "hospital" and "Indonesia" in three databases ProQuest, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar. With the guidance of PRISMA, the selection of research articles that meet the inclusion and exclusion requirements is carried out. Results: Using the PRISMA guide, 6703 articles were found from the combined keywords. After screening for conformity with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 5 research articles were found that explained the implementation of lean six sigma in the pharmaceutical inventory supervision area in hospitals. From the five research articles, there are several implementations of lean six sigma such as DMAIC, 5 R's, Pareto Chart, Turnover Ratio, and waste analysis. Conclusion: Several methods of implementing lean management can be applied in pharmaceutical logistics to improve inventory oversight in pharmaceutical logistics.

Abstract

Introduction: Microbial variations and oral hygiene (OH) status of an individual are related to the oral biofilm formation. The metabolite of microorganisms influences biofilm formation. This research aims to analyse the effect of bacterial isolates' metabolites from a good OH individual on the in vitro biofilm of bacterial isolates from a poor OH individual. Materials and Methods: Spent medium of bacteria isolated from a good OH individual tongue swab that contains different protein and nitrate concentrations was treated in vitro with biofilm from a poor OH individual tongue swab to evaluate the cell viability and in vitro biofilm mass under aerobic conditions. The methods used include the Bradford test, Griess test, Crystal Violet test, and Total Plate Count. Results and Discussions: There were significant differences in the cell viability of bacteria isolated from poor OH individual treated by spent medium isolated from good OH individual with different concentrations of protein and nitrate (p value <0.05), as well as biofilm mass of the sample that was treated with spent medium containing different nitrate concentration (p value < 0.05). Conclusion: The protein and nitrate content in the spent medium from a good OH tongue swab can influence cell viability and in vitro biofilm mass from a poor OH individual tongue swab.

Abstract

The development of Sharia hospitals represents a unique integration of Islamic values into healthcare services, fostering new avenues for economic growth. This study has three key objectives: (1) examining factors contributing to the establishment of Sharia hospitals, (2) analyzing the essential elements of Sharia hospital development using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) to ensure sustainability; and (3) assessing Sharia hospitals' potential to drive economic growth. Through a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data were collected from 619 patients and 149 respondents, while qualitative insights were gathered through focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with stakeholders including hospital managers and policymakers. Results indicate that Sharia hospitals report higher levels of patient satisfaction and loyalty compared to non-sharia hospitals, with significant emphasis on service quality, and experiential marketing. The integration of Islamic financial instruments such as Zakat, Infak, Sedekah, and Wakaf (ZISWAF) also enhances financial accessibility for underserved populations, promoting equitable healthcare. Indonesia also has the opportunity to open up Muslim-friendly health tourism destinations, attracting patients from other Muslim-majority countries. The growth of Sharia hospitals also contributes to the expansion of the halal ecosystem in Indonesia. This is not only beneficial for the health sector but also drives economic growth. ACKNOWLEDGMENT The authors acknowledge the support from the Research Grant Bank Indonesia (RGBI) 2024, for funding this research endeavor.

Abstract

In order to increase service quality and to improve service standard, hospital management should give attention to performance achievement of each unit within hospital system. One way of allocating hospital resources in controlling hospital service performance is budgeting system. Most government hospitals still use traditional budgeting system in planning the budget. Performance budgeting system is a breakthrough compared to traditional budgeting system. Although there are still difficulties in determining the output measurement, the performance budgeting system can be counted on hospital financial reform due to its accountability.

Abstract

Posyandu Remaja (Posmaja) is a community-based adolescent care service in Indonesia that comprises a group of adolescents working as volunteers and healthcare workers under the guidance and responsibility of the Public Health Centre and City Health Office. The study aims to provide a formative evaluation program of Posmaja using the Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (RE-AIM) framework. This research used a qualitative approach and took place in South Tangerang City, Indonesia. The data were collected from July until December 2018. Nineteen people participated in the study. The study used in-depth interviews and focus group discussions that adopted the RE-AIM framework for data collection. Content analysis was used to analyze the collected data. The majority of Posmaja’s participants were male adolescents aged around 15 years old. Common themes generated were “adolescent empowerment,” “increasing health knowledge,” and “monitoring health and nutrition” as a result of doing the pilot program. Volunteers and healthcare workers recognized the benefits of Posmaja and thus encouraged the adoption of the program. This awareness, followed by the city Health Office’s willingness to fund and adopt the program, was viewed as highly necessary for the program’s continuation.

Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients, their families, health workers, and cemetery officials are not only haunted by tragedies of the new coronavirus but are also stigmatized by the community. Stigma can be very detrimental to social life because it can be long-lasting without proper social measures. This qualitative study examined some cases of stigma in Indonesia. The interview was broadcast both live and online by a private television station, in April 15, 2020, and supplementary informationwas obtained from reliable news stories published by various mass media and from interviews with various groups of people. We identified the limited availability of personal protective equipment among health workers, a public lack of clear understanding regarding COVID- 19, the distortion of news by various media, and a lack of clarity among those responsible for providing education, information, and communication. The government has not acted in a sufficiently prompt mannerto prevent the spread of imported infectious diseases, resulting in local transmission and creating various stigmasamong local communities. Although the infection has already begun to spread, the government must continue toensure the correct understanding and clear mechanismsfor how to prevent COVID-19 among the public.
