Abstract

Estuary is one of an aquatic ecosystem that has something unique, because it is a meeting area of the fresh and sea water. This study aimed to analyze phytoplankton structure community in estuary of Bengawan Solo River, conducted from January to June 2001 at ten stations distributing from river, estuary and sea. Data analysis was done to evaluate species composition, abundance, diversity, evenness, and dominance indices of the phytoplankton. Clustering based on the phytoplankton abundance was done by using Bray Curtis index. Based on the study, the phytoplankton in the estuary of Bengawan Solo River consisted of 5 classes and 33 species such as. Bacillariophyceae (19 species), Cyanophyceae (2 species), Crysophyceae (3 species), Chlorophyceae (3 species) and Dinophyceae (6 species). Phytoplankton abundance varied, at the river station was 1026-3005 inde/l, the estuary was 5098-19727 inde/l, and the sea was 4206-8697 inde/l. Diversity Index (H) was 0, 29-2, 24, Evenness Index (E) was 0, 02-0, 98, and Dominant Index (C) was 0, 12-0, and 88. There were 3 groups according to clustering analysis based on the phytoplankton abundance using Bray Curtis Index (55%).

Abstract

Study on some reproductive aspects of blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) in Mayangan waters, Subang, West Java had been conducted for eleven months (Ferbuary-Desember 2003). The blue swimming crab samples (n=556 individuals, consisted of 251 male and 305 female) were caught by fisherman using crab net and trap sized 25x70 cm. This study covered sex ratio, gonad maturity stage (GMS), gonad somatic index (GSI), fecundity and eggs diameter. During the study (carapace width varied from 63,40-159,70 mm for male and 59,30-163 mm for female), sex ratio (male : female) of the crab was 1 : 1,2. Gonad maturity stage of the crab varied from immature to spent condition. Number of the male mature gonad was found higher during February - April, while female one was in February and June. Carapace width of first mature gonad analyzed using by Speraman-Karber method were 101,5 mm (male) and 122,2 mm (female). Gonad somatic index of male and female ranged 0,57-5,59% and 0,35-5,63%, respectively. The highest value of the gonad somatic index was found in June indicating a peak of spawning season of the crab. Fecundity of the crab ranged from 64.380-1.526.600, while egg carried in the abdomen (of ovigerous female) ranged 80.998-1.343.850. The egg diameter varied from 0,09-0,48 mm, with one mode indicating a total spawner.

Abstract

Coastal waters of Bojonegara in Banten Bay has a lot of pressure from the surrounding environment, including industry and sand mining. The high intensity and limited space encourage reclamation in coastal areas which can trigger changes in water quality. Research was conducted from October to December 2019, aims to analyze the phytoplankton biodiversity and pollution bioindicator of the waters. The phytoplankton was obtained through filtering 50 liters of water at a depth of 30 cm or surface waters. Observations were also made on water quality conditions including transparency, depth, color, temperature, pH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen (in-situ) and turbidity, Total Suspended Solid (TSS), nitrate, nitrite, and total phosphate (ex-situ). Data analysis was performed on abundance, diversity index, eveness and dominance, similarity index, and saprobic index. Based on observations, it is known that the phytoplankton found were in the class Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Dinophyceae, and Chrysophyceae. The index values of diversity, eveness, and dominance of phytoplankton each ranged from 0.2223-1.0070; 0,1289-0,5664; and 0.1550-0.8181, respectively. According to these values, the Bojonegara waters were classifeied as mild to moderate ecological pressure. The similar conditions are also indicated by the saprobic index values. The result of Main Component Analysis (PCA) shows the first component with 53.726% variance represented by turbidity parameters, TSS, total phosphate, transparency, depth, temperature, pH, and DO. These parameters have the most influence on the presence of phytoplankton.
