Abstract

Ferns (Pteridophyta) are a group of vascular plants that reproduce by spores and possess true roots, stems, and leaves, as well as xylem and phloem tissues. This study was conducted to investigate the phenetic relationships among fern species based on their morphological characteristics in an oil palm plantation located in Tampaure Hamlet, Bambaira District, Pasangkayu Regency, West Sulawesi, Indonesia. A field exploration method was employed, and samples were collected using a free-collection technique. Morphological data were compiled using Microsoft Excel and subsequently analyzed through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) in PAST version 4.03. A total of 50 individuals representing 10 fern species were identified from both terrestrial and epiphytic habitats, namely Sphaerostephanos heterocarpus, Diplazium dilatatum, Davallia denticulata, Asplenium nidus, Selaginella delicatula, Pityrogramma calomelanos, Stenochlaena palustris, Lygodium circinatum, Nephrolepis biserrata, and Pteris wallichiana. The UPGMA analysis revealed that Pteris wallichiana and Sphaerostephanos heterocarpus exhibited the closest phenetic relationship, with a similarity index of 0.88. In contrast, the most distant relationship was observed between Selaginella delicatula and Asplenium nidus, with a similarity index of 0.63. The PCA biplot analysis demonstrated that the major variation distinguishing fern species in the study area was primarily influenced by meristic traits, particularly the number of fertile pinnae, as well as overall plant size. These morphological characteristics contributed substantially to species differentiation and the phenetic grouping pattern observed among the investigated fern species.

Abstract

Food-wasting behavior contributes significantly to the increasing volume of household organic waste, which has the potential to pollute the environment if not managed properly. This study aimed to describe the potential of food waste processed using the biopore technique as an organic fertilizer for the growth of spinach (Amaranthus hybridus) and to determine the optimal application concentration that promotes the best plant growth. This study employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Five concentrations of biopore organic fertilizer were tested with four replications: P0 (control/no fertilizer), P1 (25 g), P2 (50 g), P3 (100 g), and P4 (150 g). The observed parameters included plant height (cm), number of leaves, and leaf area (cm2), which were measured periodically for four weeks after planting (WAP). The collected data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of biopore organic fertilizer derived from food waste had a significant effect on all growth parameters evaluated. Based on the post hoc analysis, treatment P4 (150 g/L concentration, equivalent to 15%) consistently produced the best growth performance. At the end of the observation period (4 WAP), P4 resulted in an average plant height of 13.23 cm, an average of 8 leaves per plant, and a leaf area of 6.10 cm2. These values were significantly higher than those of the control group (P0) and the other lower-concentration treatments. In conclusion, food waste decomposed through biopore holes has considerable potential to be utilized as an agronomically valuable organic fertilizer. A concentration of 15% (P4) is recommended as the most effective formulation for sustainably promoting the growth of Amaranthus hybridus L. plants.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini berfokus pada dekonstruksi seni canang sari persembahan sakral Hindu Bali yang dibuat secara tradisional oleh anak-anak di Kecamatan Balinggi, Sulawesi Tengah sebagai media pembelajaran berbasis STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) di tingkat Sekolah Dasar (SD) dalam konteks pendidikan seni rupa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menganalisis elemen-elemen STEAM yang terkandung dalam seni canang sari melalui perspektif dekonstruksi; (2) mengeksplorasi potensi canang sari sebagai media pembelajaran seni rupa berbasis STEAM bagi anak usia sekolah dasar; dan (3) menganalisis model pembelajaran STEAM kontekstual berbasis kearifan lokal untuk kurikulum SD di Sulawesi Tengah. Metode Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif-interpretatif dengan teori dekonstruksi Jacques Derrida untuk menganalisis perubahan bentuk dan makna canang sari dalam konteks pembelajaran. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam semi-terstruktur dengan tokoh budaya dan guru, serta dokumentasi visual proses pembuatan canang sari. Teknik analisis data yang meliputi kondensasi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan/verifikasi kesimpulan, didukung triangulasi sumber dan teknik. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa: (1) seni canang sari memuat elemen-elemen integratif STEAM secara natural (geometri, simetri, rekayasa anyaman, estetika, dan kalkulasi bahan); (2) proses kreatif pembuatan canang sari oleh anak-anak merangsang perkembangan kognitif, motorik halus, dan sensitivitas budaya; dan (3) transformasi seni tradisional ke dalam pembelajaran STEAM mampu memperkuat karakter dan identitas budaya lokal anak. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan kurikulum pendidikan seni rupa di Sekolah Dasar yang berbasis kearifan lokal serta menawarkan model pembelajaran STEAM kontekstual yang inovatif. Abstract This study examines the deconstruction of canang sari a sacred Balinese Hindu offering traditionally crafted by children in Balinggi District, Central Sulawesi as a STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) learning medium within the context of fine arts education at the elementary school level.. This study aims to: (1) analyse the STEAM elements embedded in canang sari through a deconstructive lens; (2) explore the potential of canang sari as a STEAM-based fine arts learning medium for elementary school-aged children; and (3) examine a contextual STEAM learning model grounded in local wisdom for the elementary school curriculum in Central Sulawesi. Employing a descriptive-interpretative qualitative approach, the study draws on Jacques Derrida's deconstruction theory to analyse the shifting forms and meanings of canang sari within educational contexts. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews with cultural figures and teachers, and visual documentation of the canang sari production process. Data analysis followed the interactive model comprising data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification, supported by source and technique triangulation. Findings reveal that: (1) canang sari organically integrates all STEAM elements (geometry, symmetry, weaving engineering, aesthetics, and material calculation); (2) children's creative engagement in crafting canang sari stimulates cognitive development, fine motor skills, and cultural sensitivity; and (3) the transformation of traditional art into STEAM learning effectively strengthens children's character and local cultural identity. This study contributes to the development of local wisdom-based fine arts curricula at the elementary school level and proposes an innovative contextual STEAM learning model.
