Abstract

Based on data released by Central Connecticut State University in 2016 with the title World's Most Literate Nations, stating that Indonesia ranks 60th out of 61 countries in terms of literacy skills, it can be said that literacy skills in Indonesia are still very minimal. Indonesia has a "Literacy Emergency". Research on science literacy is mostly done at the primary and secondary education levels while for higher education research is still not significant. So that this research aims to be related to the trend of science literacy research in higher education. The method used is a systematic literature review taken from national and international journals. Searching for literature sources in this article through the ERIC database and Google Scholar in 2022-2023. From the results of the search for literature articles obtained 25,480 consisting of ERIC there are 7493 titles and from Google Scholar 21,000 titles with the keywords Science Literacy and Science Literacy. Then using the exclusion criteria by looking at the publication time of the last 1 year (2022-2023) and the suitability of research in higher education obtained 571 articles consisting of ERIC there are 29 titles and from Google Scholar 600 titles. Then at the final stage an assessment was carried out by selecting journals with the same title and author, then limiting the year of publication, the scope of higher education and completeness obtained 14 literature, consisting of 11 literature in Indonesian and English.

Abstract

This research aims at using appropriate learning models to help students avoid misconceptions and help students construct new knowledge through appropriate learning models. The method used is a systematic literature review taken from national journals and international journals. Search for library sources in this article via Google, SagePub, Science Direct, Emerald Insight, Hindawi, Springer, Taylor and Francis, and Wiley databases for 2013-2024. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the concept learning model is a learning model that has the view that students are not only required to be able to form concepts through classifying data, but they must also be able to form concepts using their own abilities. By using the concept learning model in the learning process, it is hoped that students' understanding of concepts will increase. The concept learning model is designed to teach concepts and help students more effectively learn the concepts of the material they are studying so that it can significantly help them in the process of improving their learning outcomes. This model is an efficient method of presenting structured and planned information from a wide range of topics for students at every level of development.

Abstract

Salah satu bentuk kecerdasan emosional yang penting dimiliki peserta didik dalam pemecahan masalah adalah norma sosiomatematika. Namun, kemampuan ini masih tergolong rendah pada siswa SMPN 4 Langsa, yang terlihat dari kurangnya interaksi selama proses pembelajaran di kelas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui ada atau tidaknya peningkatan kemampuan norma sosiomatematika melalui penerapan ETNO-AR berbasis model Problem Based Learning (PBL) terintegrasi budaya Aceh menggunakan metode Quasi eksperimen dengan desain pretest -posttest control group. Hasil penelitian ini dilihat dari uji Mann Whitney nilai N-Gain diperoleh U = 81,000 dan nilai signifikansi 0,014 maka H0 di tolak artinya peningkatan norma sosiomatematika siswa melalui ETNO-AR lebih baik dari pada melalui pembelajaran tanpa media ETNO-AR. Terjadi peningkatan pada seluruh indikator norma sosiomatematika, dengan capaian tertinggi sebesar 95,5% pada indikator kemampuan siswa dalam menghargai perbedaan tingkat berpikir tanpa merasa superior maupun inferior. Sementara itu, pada kelas kontrol, indikator tertinggi adalah kemampuan siswa dalam menyampaikan solusi lisan untuk mencapai kesepakatan terhadap suatu permasalahan persentase sebesar 79,5%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe think pair share (TPS). Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang terdiri dari dua siklus. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini berupa tes dan non tes, yaitu tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan observasi untuk mengukur peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Berdasarkan hasil observasi awal yaitu tes kemampuan awal siswa, hanya 6 siswa atau 17,64% yang memenuhi KKM dengan rata-rata nilai tes awal 50,00 yang tergolong sangat rendah. Pada siklus I, jumlah siswa yang memenuhi KKM meningkat dari 6 siswa menjadi 16 siswa atau 27,64% menjadi 47,05%. Rata-rata nilai tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis I juga meningkat dari 50,00 menjadi 67,69. Pada siklus II, diperoleh jumlah siswa yang memenuhi KKM meningkat 16 siswa menjadi 29 siswa atau 47,05% menjadi 85,30%. Rata-rata nilai tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis II juga meningkat dari 67,69 menjadi 81,32. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh pada siklus II dalam penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa penelitian ini berhasil karena sudah mencapai indikator keberhasil sehingga dapat dihentikan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dan beberap penelitian yang relevan, disimpulkan penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe think pair share (TPS) ini dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita.

Abstract

The increasing phenomenon of student employment affects approximately 30% of Indonesian students, creating complex challenges in balancing academic and professional responsibilities. This quantitative descriptive study examined competency levels among working students managing dual roles in higher education. Using a structured 4-point Likert scale questionnaire, data were collected from 67 working students across UNRIKA, UT, and UNIMED, with supplementary interviews and observations for validation. Descriptive statistical analysis examined eight competency dimensions through frequency distributions and cross-tabulation methods. Results indicated predominance of young females (18-25 years) among working students. High competency levels were demonstrated across multiple areas: 87.5% completed assignments punctually, 76.5% managed stress effectively, and 87.5% exhibited strong communication abilities. Task management and adaptability showed positive outcomes, with 82.9% successfully adjusting academic schedules for work demands and 87.5% prioritizing tasks effectively. However, workload management presented challenges, as 65.7% reported feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities. The statistical findings highlight the need for institutional support mechanisms including flexible learning frameworks, accessible counseling services, and enhanced digital resources. This research contributes empirical evidence for developing targeted interventions to optimize working student competencies, providing measurable insights into dual role management patterns that can inform evidence-based educational policies and support program development in higher education institutions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine: (1) Whether there is an effect of the Problem-Based Learning model on students' mathematical communication skills. (2) Whether there is an interaction between the Problem-Based Learning model and students' initial mathematical ability (KAM) on their mathematical communication skills. (3) Whether there is an effect of the Problem-Based Learning model on students' learning motivation. (4) Whether there is an interaction between the Problem-Based Learning model and students' initial mathematical ability (KAM) on their learning motivation. This study is a quasi-experimental design. The population in this study was all students at MTs Negeri 2 Medan. Then, two classes were randomly selected, class VIII-D (30 students) and class VIII-E (30 students). The experimental class was given the Problem-Based Learning model treatment, and the control class was given the usual learning treatment. The instruments used consisted of: (1) a mathematical communication ability test, and (2) a student learning motivation questionnaire. These instruments were found to meet validity requirements, as well as reliability coefficients for mathematical communication ability and the learning motivation questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using a two-way ANOVA. The results of the study indicate that (1) There is an effect of the Problem-Based Learning model on students' mathematical communication ability. (2) There is an interaction between the learning model and initial mathematical ability on students' mathematical communication skills. (3) There is an effect of the Problem-Based Learning model on students' learning motivation. (4) There is an interaction between the learning model and initial mathematical ability on students' learning motivation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat apakah ada pengaruh antara kesenangan siswa dalam membaca dengan instruksi langsung yang diberikan guru dan umpan balik yang dirasakan siswa. Subjek penelitian adalah 12.098 siswa Indonesia yang berusia 15 tahun yang datanya diperoleh berdasarkan data PISA tahun 2018. Analisa menggunakan multilevel modeling. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa kesenangan membaca siswa berbeda-beda pada tiap sekolah, namun perbedaan kesenangan membaca yang berkaitan dengan peran sekolah sekolah sebesar 8,7 %. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa faktor individu lebih berperan dalam membuat siswa senang belajar. Kemudian, setelah menambahkan faktor guru, dalam hal ini persepsi siswa terhadap instruksi yang diberikan guru dan persepsi terhadap feedback yang diberikan guru, menunjukkan hasil bahwa kedua variabel tersebut berperan dalam menentukan kesenangan membaca siswa. Saat memasukkan variabel instruksi yang diberikan guru dan persepsi terhadap feedback yang diberikan guru maka peran sekolah semakin kecil menjadi hanya 4,4%. Kedua model ini menunjukkan bahwa kesenangan membaca lebih disebabkan oleh faktor siswa (student level) daripada faktor sekolah (school level).

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the subjects that students consider difficult and less interesting. This can be due to the lack of variety and learning models as well as the proper integration of learning media. One of the impacts of this is the low mathematical problem-solving ability of students. Therefore, this study was conducted to see whether the discovery learning model assisted by the GeoGebra application has an effect on the ability to solve mathematical problems for students in class X of Prayatna Private High School Medan T.A 2024/2025. The research method used was Quasi Experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample determined by random sampling consisted of two classes, the first using discovery learning with the help of GeoGebra and the second using direct learning. Data was collected through instruments in the form of pretest and posttest. A comparative analysis of two independent groups using a t-test found that the discovery learning model assisted by the GeoGebra application had a significant effect on the mathematical problem-solving ability of students. In addition, the average score of the experimental class (83.83) was higher than that of the control class (76.66) and the average N-Gain score of the experimental class (75.70) was higher than that of the control class (54.09), showing that the discovery learning model assisted by the GeoGebra application not only had a significant effect but also improved the mathematical problem-solving skills of students. In addition, there is an increase in students' mathematics learning where students become active in the learning process and easily understand the teaching material

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are crucial as a basis for solving various problems in everyday life. A relatively weak critical thinking skill impacts students' understanding of learning materials, particularly in mathematics. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Inquiry Based Learning model in improving critical thinking skills of grade X high school students on quadratic functions and its effectiveness. This study is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental approach. This study was conducted at Prayatna Private High School in Medan with a sample of 2 classes, each with 30 students. The research instrument used a critical thinking test in the form of essays. After the data were collected, data analysis was carried out using normality testing, homogeneity testing, hypothesis testing, and the N-Gain test. The results showed that there was a significant increase in students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class using Inquiry Based Learning. With these results, it can be concluded that the Inquiry Based Learning model is effective in improving critical thinking skills of grade X high school students in learning mathematics on quadratic functions. Therefore, the Inquiry Based Learning model is able to improve critical thinking skills in mathematics teaching.
