Abstract

This research described diversity and abundance of macrozoobenthos in Naborsahan River Toba Samosir Regency of North Sumatra. Macrozoobenthos sampling station consists of 3 stations using purposive random sampling method. Physical and chemical parameters were measured as temperature, currents, depth, brightness, turbidity, organic content on C-substrate, pH, DO, and BOD5. Macrozoobenthos obtained 5 phylum, i.e. Annelida, Arthropoda, Nemertea, molluscs and Platyhelminthes which were divided into 26 genera. First station had a value diversity index (H') of 2,25 with a high of 11 genera. Tryonia genera had the highest value abundance of 14.430 ind/m2 that found at third station.Keywords: Diversity, Abundance, Macrozoobenthos, Naborsahan.

Abstract

The aimed of this research is to know diversity and abundance of periphytonand to know the primary productivity of periphyton in the Naborsahan River.Water quality parameters measured were temperature, current, dissolved oxygen(DO), nitrate, orthophosphate and abundance of periphyton. The observationswere made four times in two the research station. Sample taking carried is threetime repetition on each station. Based on the result obtained the periphytondiversity ranged from 2.903 to 2.971, the abundance of periphyton ranged from79.02 to 329.76 ind/cm2 and periphyton primary productivity value ranged from57.140 to 571.405 mgC/m3/day.Keywords: periphyton, primary productivity, Naborsahan River

Abstract

This research was conducted in Naborsahan River, North Sumatera in April-June 2013. It was aimed to know water quality in Naborsahan River, fish community structure and the relationship between community structure and physical and chemical factors of water. A survey method was conducted using Purpose Random Sampling in 4 stations. The obtained data were principal component Analysis (PCA) and analyzed descriptively.This research obtained 8 families, 9 genus, 10 species and 10745 individual fish. Highest relative abundance was fish species Bilih of 98.83%, while the lowest was goldfish and Sword Platy fish is 0.016%. Diversity index, fish uniformity index obtained,dominance index and index of similarity ranged from 0.08–0.73, 0.04-0.53, 0.59 - 0.98 and 50% - 89%, respectively. Temperature, current velocity, depth, brightness, pH, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, phosphate, nitrite, nitrate and turbidity varied between 22-25oC, 0.24-0.44 m/s, 0.62-0.79, 0.45-0.76, 6.75-7.9, 7.1-10.9 mg/l, 2.22-8.06 mg/l, 0.003-0.005 mg/l, 0.424-0.584 mg/l, 0.039-0.059 mg/l and 4.207-16.617 NTU, respectively. The results of PCA showed that temperature, depth, brightness, pH, DO and BOD5 are highly correlated with community structure. While flow, turbidity, nitrate, nitrite and phosphate are the lowest correlating factor of community structure.Keywords: Diversity, Fish, Water Quality, Naborsahan.

Abstract

This research aims to know the abundance and diversity level of periphyton and to determine the pollution Deli river, in terms of periphyton diversity and water quality. Physical-chemical, and biological observed parameter that were temperature, current, brightness, pH, TDS, TSS, BOD5, DO, nitrate, Phosphate, Fe, diversity and abundance of periphyton. Sampling was done three times at the five observation station, that each station is divided into three spots (before, during and after the sewage outlet). Diversity index periphyton (H') ranged from 0,803 until 1,195 ind/cm2, abundance ranged from 257.280 until 1.185.280 ind/cm2. The temperature 27 until 30oC, the current range 0,68 until 0,89 m/s, the brightness range 20,50 until 23,50 cm, TDS range 96,50 until 142,03 mg/l TSS 5,33 until 11,33 mg/l, pH range 7,60 until 8,10 mg/l, DO 0,90 until 1,90 mg/l, BOD5 8,99 until 22,50 mg/l, nitrate 1,69 until 3,48 mg/l, Phosphate 0,11 until 0,35 mg/l and Fe 0,20 until 3,78 mg/l. According to the Diversity index (H') and water physical – chemical properties, Deli River is being heavy polluted.Keywords: Periphyton, Diversity, Abundance, Deli River

Abstract

Mirror beach are located in the eastern coast of Sumatra has a variety of activities that affect the water quality, and can changes community of Bivalvia and Gastropoda. Information and understanding of environmental change is indispensable in ecosystem monitoring effort. This research aims to determine the status of the water quality, community of bivalves and gastropods in Cermin Beach,North Sumatera. This research had been conducted on June to July 2013 in Cermin Beach, Serdang Bedagai District, North Sumatera. There are three stations observed, station 1 : Tourism activities area; 2 : the mangroves area; 3 : estuary area. There are three sampling in 2 months. There are 11 genera from bivalves class and 12 genera from gastropods class. The highest total data in station 1 is 31.140 ind/m3, in station 2 is 15.714 ind/m3 and station 3 is 86.341 ind/m3. From the highest total data in three stations showed diversity criteria, the spread of the number of individuals and community stability classified as moderate. Eveneses index in three stations still moderate, eveneses values is 0,3 and 0,4. Dominance index value showed 0,23, 0,18, and 0,15 for three stations. It means, there is no type that dominate. Dispersion pattern showed clumped and uniform pattern.Keyword : Cermin Beach, Bivalves and Gastropods

Abstract

The decline of fish populations bilih (Mystacoleucus padangensis Bleeker) caused by fishing activity and the availability of natural food in the River Naborsahan closely related to the physico-chemical factors of the river. The purpose of this study was to determine the feeding habits of fish bilih (Mystacoleucus padangensis Bleeker). This study was conducted in June - July with purposive random sampling method. The results showed that the natural food of bilih fish is phytoplankton from the genus Rhizosolenia, Synedra, Aulacoseira, Gonatozygon, Pinnularia, Closterium, Surirella, Gyrosigma, Melosira, Oscillatoria and zooplankton from genus Creseis, tubifex and Daphnia. Natural food that became the main food of bilih fish is phytoplankton from the genus Synedra with IP (Index Preporedence) > 40% fish is 98.9%. Natural feed becomes additional food of bilih fish <4% that is Rhizosolenia, Aulacoseira, Gonatozygon, Pinnularia, Closterium, Surirella, Gyrosigma, Melosira, Oscillatoria, Creseis, Tubifex and Daphnia. Measurement results of physico-chemical factors water good enough for the availability of natural food and life of bilih fish (Mystacoleucus padangensis Bleeker).Keywords: Fish bilih (Mystacoleucus padangensis Bleeker), Food Habits, Naborsahan River.

Abstract

The samples of Kelong shrimps are 1758 which consist of 654 male shrimps and 1104 female shrimps. The growth pattern of Kelong Shrimps is negative allometric. The frequency distribution of the carapace length of Kelong Shrimps is in the range of 13.07-39.68 mm, the size group which is dominating the male Kelong Shrimps and female Kelong Shrimps is 24.57-25.88. The assumption of the Von Bertalanffy growth parameter of male Kelong Shrimps L∞ is 36.30 mm with K=0.5 per year, the assumption of the value of female Kelong shrimps L∞ is 41.91 mm with K=0.62 per year. The rates of the natural mortality (M) is 1.161 per year. The mortality caused by the arrest (F) is 1.365 per year show the exploitation rates is 0.54. The value E which is obtained, is showing the indication overfishing of Kelong Shrimps. The comparison of male and female Kelong shrimps is 1:1.688. The value of the condition factor which shows that Kelong Shrimps have the body shape which is flat (thin).Keywords: Growth, exploitation rates, Penaeus merguiensis, Langkat

Abstract

Mercury (Hg) is a dangerous pollutant because its toxic when accumulating in the tissues of organism and difficult to degraded in environment. Mercury can pollute the environment of river water that comes from galundung waste to waters area without management or handling. The objective of this research Are to analyse the heavy metals concentrations Hg and in water and soft tissue of cencen fish, analyse the effect of mercury on cencen fish gill histological observations. This study was conducted in Batang Gadis River Mandailing Natal Regency from June until August 2014. Sampling method is purposive sampling, which located 3 station. Water and fish sampling was taken for 2 weeks. The result of this research has showed that average out heavy metals Hg concentrations in the water are between 0,00015 − 0,00043 ppm, and in tissue of fish between 0,00128 − 0,01097 ppm. Concentrations of Hg in the river water and tissue was below of the quality standard. The result of the calculation of low value fish bioaccumulation factor are between 12,88 – 25,51. This study showed that cencen fish in Batang Gadis River accumulated Hg. The observation of the gill histology in all stations showed availability of edema, hyperplasia, fusion of lamellae and mineralization.Keywords: Batang Gadis River, Mercury (Hg), Accumulation, Histology

Abstract

River is one of the most important natural resources for human, due to it’s a source of drinking water, tourism, animal husbandry, and fishery. Positive impact of tourism activities in economic development can also lead to negative effects of environmental degradation. Research conducted at District Mandailing Natal of Panyabungan, in May – August 2014 by analyzing water quality of Batang Gadis River and perceptions of visitors and managers. The results showed that water quality value for eight parameters of Batang Gadis River was under quality based on PP No 82 tahun 2001. Visitors felt comfortably with the attractions. Batang Gadis River has great tourism Potency for develop with properness 79,25 % .Key Words : Colifaecal, Water Quality, Potency of Tourism, Batang Gadis River, Tourism.

Abstract

Pelawi River is one of the small rivers in the area of Langkat Regency whose streams flow gets input wastes from agricultural activity, domestic and industry activities that may effect water quality. This research described The Pelawi River Water Quality in Pelawi Village District Babalan Langkat Regency of North Sumatera Province. Physics and chemical parameters were analyzed by the Storet method based on water quality standard required by Peraturan Pemerintah No. 82 Tahun 2001, while biological parameters (macrozoobenthos) were analyzed by Abudance and Biomass Comparison (ABC) curve. The location of sampling sites was done by Purposive Sampling method in three core areas are station 1 (agriculture activity), station 2 (domestic activity) and station 3 (industry activity). The result of this research is that the River Pelawi used Storet method and ABC curve showed that water quality in Pelawi River were classified slightly polluted until moderatelly polluted water. Relate of Peraturan Pemerintah No. 82 Tahun 2001 that the water quality standard of Pelawi River is Class III.Keywords : Water Quality, Macrozoobenthos, Pelawi River
