Abstract

Understanding the impact of ASF comprehensively is a crucial step in efforts to control and prevent future outbreaks. Therefore, an in-depth study is needed on the "Mortality and direct economic impact of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak" on pigs in East Tomoni District. This study was conducted in East Tomoni District, East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi Province. Given the population of more than 1001 people, 5% of the population (1,085 farmers) were used as research samples. This study uses a comprehensive approach to evaluate economic losses due to ASF in the Tomoni Timur District. By considering three main aspects, namely pig mortality, direct losses to pig farms, and government losses. The analysis results show that the mortality rate of pigs due to ASF in the ASF outbreak in Tomoni Timur District caused pig mortality of up to 99.46%, having a major impact on the livestock population and the local economy. The economic loss per household reached IDR 55 million, reflecting a significant impact on farmers. The government also bears the cost of handling more than IDR 1 billion, but the main burden remains on farmers. The high number of losses shows the importance of appropriate interventions to prevent similar impacts in the future. More effective prevention strategies need to be designed to reduce the risk of recurrence. The mortality rate of pigs in East Tomoni District due to ASF is very high.

Abstract

FCAW welding is an automated welding process that employs a wire roll electrode to melt metal, using flux or powder within the electrode's core for protection. A common issue with FCAW welding is the occurrence of angular distortion and alterations in the length and width dimensions, particularly in thin plate iron materials, due to residual stresses from the welding process. This research aims to assess the impact of static thermal tensioning, preheating, and their combination on angular distortion in SS400 steel corner joints during FCAW welding, considering heat input during welding. True experimental research methodology was employed, with variations in preheating temperatures of 200°C, 250°C, 300°C, static thermal tensioning at 150°C, 200°C, 250°C, transient thermal tensioning at 150°C, 200°C, 250°C, and a reference method with no treatment to determine the welding approach that minimizes angular distortion. The material used was 3mm thick SS400 steel. Data analysis was performed using Minitab 18 software and the One-Way Anova method. The research results indicate a significant influence of static thermal tensioning, preheating, and their combination on angular distortion. The optimal welding methods identified are preheating-static thermal tensioning at 89°55', preheating-transient thermal tensioning at 89°50', static thermal tensioning at 150°C at 89°45', transient thermal tensioning at 150°C at 89°40', and preheating at 200°C at 89°35'.

Abstract

Background: Guava fruit (Psidium guajava L.) is known for its antioxidant properties, attributed to its content of beta carotene and phenolic compounds such as quercetin, guavin, protocatechuic acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid, caffeic acid, and vitamin C. However, the use of guava fruit flesh in lip balm formulations has not been extensively studied. Objective: This research aims to determine whether the ethanolic extract of guava fruit flesh can be formulated into a lip balm preparation that provides moisture at certain concentrations without irritating the lip skin. Method: This study utilized the guava fruit flesh (Psidium guajava L.) as the test material. Phytochemical analysis and lip balm formulations were prepared at concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, along with a blank control. Commercially available products were used as a comparison. The physical quality evaluation of the formulations included tests for homogeneity, pH, melting point, stability, preference, and effectiveness on the lip skin using a moisture checker device. Results: the ethanolic extract of guava fruit flesh (Psidium guajava L.) can be formulated into a lip balm. The pH of the lip balm formulations ranged from 6.0 to 6.2 immediately after preparation and from 5.8 to 6.1 after 12 weeks of storage. The melting point of the formulations was between 58-62°C. The lip balm with a concentration of 7.5% was the most preferred in the preference test. The formulations remained stable in terms of odor, color, and shape over a 12-week storage period. The lip balm with a 10% concentration provided the best moisturizing effect on the lips, achieving a 23.1% improvement, while the commercial comparison product had an average recovery rate of 26.1%, falling under the "moist" category. Conclusion: the ethanolic extract lip balm formulations did not cause any irritation to the skin and potential used as moisturizer

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the short-term and long-term effects of socio-economic indicators on the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia in 2018-2022. The estimation used to analyze the spatial dynamic panel data model in this study is the Generalized Method of Moment (GMM). Based on the results of the analysis, the variables that have a significant positive effect on the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia are GRDP per capita and poverty, while the variables of literacy, sanitation and HDI have a negative effect on the prevalence of stunting. Although the effect of GRDP per capita on stunting is weak, if followed by low poverty, increasing literacy spirit, awareness of the importance of sanitation and the continued growth of Indonesia's human development index, it is hoped that every household can provide the nutritional needs of toddlers to quickly reduce the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia.

Abstract

Kangkong (water spinach) is a perennial plant consisting of two main types: upland kangkong (upland water spinach, Ipomoea reptans poir) and aquatic water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica). This plant is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, and beta-carotene, which act as antioxidants to combat free radicals and prevent cholesterol oxidation. To optimize the growth of upland kangkong on Ultisol soil, enriched organic fertilizer containing dolomite lime, natural phosphate rock, and palm oil ash is required. This fertilizer improves soil fertility, adjusts soil pH, and supports microbial activity. This community service aims to enhance the skills of women in the PKK group RT 23, Pasir Putih Village, Jambi City, in cultivating upland kangkong using enriched organic fertilizer. The activity included two stages: delivering material on the benefits of enriched fertilizer and conducting field practice on its application. The team provided materials such as seeds, fertilizer, supporting tools, and educational resources. The results indicated high enthusiasm from the participants, who gained an understanding of proper fertilizer usage and dosage. Post-training, the participants successfully applied the techniques, resulting in healthy kangkong growth with shiny green leaves. These skills are expected to promote sustainable local agriculture.
