Abstract

Problem solving is part of a very important mathematical curriculum. Through this aspect of mathematical ability such as the application of rules on non-routine issues, pattern discoveries, etc. can be developed better. The purpose of this research are: (1) to analyze mathematical problem solving ability viewed by IQ; (2) to analyze the mathematical problem solving ability viewed by gender. This type of research is qualitative. Research subjects consisted of 6 students VB grade SD Nusaputera Semarang 2016 school year. Qualitative analysis includes data reduction, display data, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study are (1) there are three categories of IQ that is high average, average, and low average, which has the ability to solve the best math problem that are high average, then average, and the last is low categories which refers to their ability to solve mathematical problem solving; (2) based on the total number of indicators that can be fulfilled by male gender and female' gender in this study, it shows that female's mathematics problem solving ability is better than that of male. Important finding of this research is that IQ and gender determine the level of problem solving ability of math student. This research can be used as a guide in giving learning to students in improving problem solving ability of math based on IQ and gender difference.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to determine the effectiveness of PBL model assisted with the manipulative teaching aids towards the mathematical communication skills, and to find out the self-efficacy based on the dimensions of magnitude, strenght, and generally. This study applied mixed method type of research with concurrent embedded design. The sample in this study is 9 students consist of 3 students in the magnitude dimension, 3 students in the strength dimension, and 3 students in the generally dimension that had been determined based on the written and oral Mathematical Communication Ability Tests (TKKM). The instruments used to collect data in this study consists of learning aids or devices such as, written TKKM Tests, questionnaire sheet and interview guidelines. The techniques of collecting data were conducted by using questionnaires, tests and interviews. The effectiveness was described based on (1) the average completeness test of 0.436; (2) the average difference test of 2.867; and (3) N-gain test of 0.468. The results of this study showed that learning conducted by using problem based learning model assisted with manipulative teaching aids is effective toward the mathematical communication skills. In addition, by using problem based learning model assisted with manipulative teaching aids can improve self efficacy in its every dimensions, including: the dimensions of magnitude obtain an average of 82.32; the dimension of strength gained an average of 80.37; and the dimensions of generally get an average of 81.78.

Abstract

Critical thinking helps students to study the problems systematically, face challenges with an organized, formulate innovative statements, and design original solutions. This research aims to describe the characteristics of development mathematics learning tools of GI model with scientific approaches, and examine the effectiveness of learning by using developed mathematics learning tools with scientific approach GI model's with character contain to improve critical thinking students'. This research method is R & D using 4-D models developed by Thiagarajan, Semmel & Semmel (1974) but in this research only used of three stages, namely: (a) definitions, (b) design, and (c) development. Research data obtained by observation method, documentation, questionnaire, and test. All data were analyzed descriptively, except test analyzed by statistically using validity, reliability, level of difficulty and distinguishing test. Hard work in learning is the behavior of students who show serious effort in completing tasks, focus on lessons and try to find information about lessons. The results showed that development mathematics learning tools GI model with scientific approaches integrates between indicators of competency achievement with indicators of critical thinking skills accompanied with hard work character and learning tools with scientific approaches GI models with character contained showed a significant impact in improving critical thinking student.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' problem solving abilities based on the mastery of the concept of fractions in the PBL model. Mixed method with sequential explanatory design was used in this research. This research was conducted in class V SD Negeri 1 Cikeduk Cirebon Regency in 2018/2019. The Data obtained by tests, interviews, and observation sheets. Qualitative learning is assessed from the planning, implementation, and assessment stages. The test results of students' problem solving abilities were analyzed quantitatively by one sample t-test and classical completeness test. Students were grouped based on their concept mastery which consists of the high concept mastery category (PKT), the medium concept mastery category (PKS), and the low concept mastery category (PKR) and two subjects from each concept mastery category were chosen to be interviewed. The results showed that; (1) students' problem solving skills achieve mastery in the PBL model; (2) Increased students' concept mastery ability; (3) Students' problem solving skills in students with high concept mastery are able to master the problem solving steps of Polya-Schoenfeld theory. (4) Students' problem solving skills in students whose mastery is able to master three indicators of problem solving from four indicators; and (5) students' problem solving skills in students with low concept mastery only mastered two indicators, and the results of the final answers were not right. It can be concluded that there is an improvement of student learning outcomes in solving problems based on concepts mastery in the PBL model.

Abstract

Mathematical creative thinking ability in problem solving becomes the requirement of mathematics education recently in order to find many ideas and new solution so that the issues can be resolved appropriately. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning in achieving the student’s creative mathematical thinking ability and their ability viewed from gender. This study used a mixed method design with concurrent embedded design by conducting quasi experimental design on quantitative method and Miles-Hubberman model to analyzed qualitative data. The first stage was quantitative data collection, and it was done using tests (essay). The next stage was qualitative data collection, and it was done using triangulation techniques such as tests and interviews. The study population was the grade VII SMP IT Bina Amal Semarang. Samples were grade VII Thoriq and VII Aisyah as an experimental class and grade VII Amru and VII Asma ' as the control class. Data analysis in qualitative research follows the concept given by Miles & Huberman are data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Analysis of quantitative research includes analysis of the achievement aspects of mathematical creative thinking abilities. Quantitative data analysis includes a normality test, homogeneity tests, completeness tests, right-side tests, and average similarity test. The result of this study shown that CPS learning model effectively improved the ability of creative thinking viewed from gender, this is indicated by the mathematical creative thinking ability of the experimental class students reaches the minimal past score, the mathematical creative thinking ability of the experimental class students is better than of the control class, the mathematical creative thinking ability of female students are better than male on elaboration and flexibility indicators, whereas the mathematical creative thinking ability of male students are better than female on fluency and originality indicators. Based on the results, it can be concluded that CPS learning can improve student’s creative thinking abilities and different achievement between male and female students.

Abstract

Creative thinking skills are important to be trained in mathematics learning because solving math problems cannot be separated from these skills. This research described learners’ mathematics creative thinking skills reviewed by curiosity and gender. This research is sequential explanatory research with a mixed methods with quantitative and qualitative approaches. Thirty-five learners of the 10th graders learning group were given a curiosity test to discover their curiosity types. They were stimulated by problem-based learning to develop their mathematics creative thinking skills. The findings showed that learners had various mathematics, creative thinking skills. They were proven by epistemic, perceptual curiosity, and perceptual curiosity diverse learners for both males and females. They were creative. The male learners with epistemic curiosity diverse categories were also creative while the female was very creative. Based on this research, the mathematical creative thinking ability of female gender students with the epistemic curiosity type is more dominant than perceptual curiosity.
