Abstract

The presence of digital platforms increasingly permeates contemporary everyday culture, necessitating a re-evaluation of observational studies on social and cultural phenomena. Traditional qualitative research methods that rely on physical locations face challenges in the era of digital platforms. This article aims to explain the use of ethnography and digital ethnography in fieldwork, combining classic ethnographic methods with participant observations in locations where digital platforms are utilized. Technical exploration can uncover social and cultural assumptions embedded in interactions and interviews, as well as how their accessibility can create symbolic meanings. Meanwhile, participant observation focuses on the perspectives of digital platform users within a community. Referring to pioneering works in the field of "digital ethnography," this article critically explores the potential and challenges posed by new technologies that warrant attention. It can be concluded that a balanced combination of physical and digital ethnography not only provides researchers with diverse and intriguing methods but also allows for a better appreciation of respondents' voices. The development of digital ethnography as a research methodology, along with the challenges encountered in addressing classical concepts of fieldwork, participation, and representation, creates opportunities for digital ethnographers to gain professional recognition in conducting research related to society and culture.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang tingkat partisipasi Komunitas Akit dalam aktivitas pembangunan desa diKecamatan Bantan Kabupaten Bengkalis dan juga menggali sejauhmana keterlibatan lokal wisdoomdan informal leaders dalam mempengaruhi aktivitas Komunitas Akit dalam proses pembangunan desadi Kecamatan Bantan Kabupaten Bengkalis. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuantitatif deskriptif yangmenitikberatkan pada penelitian lapangan. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah masyarakat KomunitasAkit yang berada di Kecamatan Bantan, dimana dari 23 (dua puluh tiga) desa. Terdapat dua jenis datayang digunakan yaitu data primer dari masyarakat (hasil wawancara/kuesioner dan survey) dan datasekunder berupa tinjauan dan data dari berbagai instansi. Hasil penelitian berkesimpulan bahwa SukuAkit berpartisipasi tinggi dalam kontribusi pemkiran yaitu dengan tingkat persentase 55,6% dan sudahbisa berbaur dengan masyarakat setempat. Kemudian komunitas dan pemerintah desa di KecamatanBantan mampu berkoordinasi secara relevansi untuk kemajuan pembangunan desa dan tetapmempertahankan norma dan nilai kulturnya tanpa merenggangkan kerja sama dalam pembangunandesa dengan pemerintah desa. Saran hasil penelitian kepada masyarakat umum dan pemerintahdiharapkan dapat lebih aktif dalam merangkul suku Akit dalam berbagai aktivitas kemasyarakatan danpembangunan desa serta Masyarakat Suku Akit diharapkan lebih terbuka dan mau menerima ulurantangan pemerintah sebagai bentuk dari langkah sinergi untuk pembangunan kedepannya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang kekerasan seksual terhadap empat orang perempuan yang ada di Kota Pekanbaru. Dalam tesis ini peneliti menekankan pembahasan pada aspek kekerasan struktural dan relasi kuasa sebagai penyebab terjadinya kasus kekerasan seksual dengan pendekatan feminis. Melalui pendekatan penelitian kualitatif, terutama melalui teknik observasi dan wawancara, tesis ini ditujukan untuk menggali informasi terkait penyebab utama kasus kekerasan seksual yang dialami oleh empat orang perempuan di Kota Pekanbaru.  Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan ditemukan bahwa kasus kekerasan seksual yang dialami oleh para korban disebabkan karena adanya kekuasaan dan kekuatan yang dimiliki oleh para pelaku yang membuat korban menjadi tidak berdaya. Posisi korban yang lemah ini dimanfaatkan oleh para pelaku untuk menekan korbannya. Kekerasan seksual tersebut juga melukai korban dalam hal identitas, kesejahteraan, dan kebebasan sebagaimana yang dikemukakan dalam teori Johan Galtung tentang kekerasan terhadap perempuan. Dalam aspek relasi kuasa dan feminisme, kasus kekerasan seksual yang dialami oleh para korban disebabkan karena posisi pelaku yang lebih tinggi dari korban dan memiliki kekuatan dari segi pengetahuan, jabatan, finansial, dsb, sehingga para korban yang mengalami kejadian tersebut tidak bisa berbuat apa-apa, sedangkan dalam teori feminisme korban kekerasan seksual disebabkan karena adanya budaya patriarki yang diskriminatif dan subordinatif terhadap perempuan. Para korban dianggap sebagai pihak yang lemah sehingga mudah mendapatkan perlakuan yang diskriminatif.

Abstract

The wealth of local potential existing in a community can inspire creativity which can create some opportunities for the community through establishing home-based businesses or what is now known as Home Industry. IKM Langgak Craft group is able to construct a palm oil stick waste processing plant considered as having contributing ability in the long term. The objective of current research is to analyze the elements of social capital contributing and the weaknesses of each social capital element in the IKM Langgak Craft group in Koto Tandun Village, Tandun  Sub District, Rokan Hulu Regency. This research used Putnam’s theory stating that social capital includes (1) trust, (2) norm/ethics, and (3) network. This research used qualitative methodology with purposive sampling technique; the author also lived in the location of research for 2 (two) months. The result of research analyzing the Bonding of IKM Langgak Craft group shows that the group has high solidarity. Strong solidarity social care), mutual help, and support for each other create emotional relation in the IKM Langgak Craft group as shown with sympathy and empathy appearing in the group. Bridging Social Capital can be seen from the net wok relation between IKM Langgak Craft group and other groups or IKMs; through this network, the IKM Langgak Craft group will exchange ideas and information on how to produce business innovation and other varying common knowledge.  The Linking Social Capital of IKM Langgak Craft group has fairly broad network that has been created since 2019-2022 with both governmental institutions and private companies around it.

Abstract

Disability is a condition where a person experiences physical, mental, intellectual and sensory limitations for a long time, so that he will experience interference or obstacles in interacting and carrying out an activity with the community environment. Including having skills, of course, it is not easy for children with disabilities to be able to develop every interest or talent that has been bestowed on them. The purpose of this study is to analyze and find out how with the limitations possessed by coaching students can create or develop skills in the extraordinary school of the Pekanbaru City Coach, because children with disabilities are children with special needs different from normal children in general so it is not easy, especially for teachers to be sensitive or understand in recognizing and developing skills for them. The method used in this study is qualitative research method. The informants contained in this study were coaching students, teachers, and parents of SLB Pembina students. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it was obtained regarding (1) The socialization process of skill development for children with disabilities at SLB N Pembina Pekanbaru, that is, there are several stages carried out by each teacher in debriefing to the development of skills of each coaching student, (2) Obstacles experienced by teachers in socializing skill development for children with disabilities at SLB N Pembina Pekanbaru, including suitability in communicating and difficulties in managing the emotions of coaching students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine informal economic activities carried out by the elderly in the city of Pekanbaru who are still working and find out the reasons behind the elderly are still actively working based on social actions. This study used descriptive qualitative research methods in data collection using observation, interview, in-depth and documentation techniques. The subjects in this study amounted to seven people, of which five elderly people were actively working, including banana fruit traders, tissue sellers, blacksmiths, parking attendants, seasoning entrepreneurs, and two supporting subjects, namely children of the elderly and the Head of protection and social security. This study used purposive techniques based on certain criteria. The results of this study show that in carrying out economic activities, preparation is needed before carrying out activities, the process of implementing activities and the difficulties experienced during work. The results of observational analysis of research show that in carrying out economic activities in the need for behavior and physical ability to work by showing interest in work and social action. Rational and irrational social actions are behind the elderly still working. Instrumental actions go into all the reasons they work because the economic activity they do certainly produces something useful for their purposes, although these actions are not the main reason they work. The informal economic activities that the elderly choose are carried out independently. Independent means independent in the funds spent, independent in energy and able to overcome difficulties on their own without anyone protecting them.

Abstract

A negative self-image can lead to low self-confidence, whereas a positive self-image can lead to a positive response. This trend has led to a shift in the perception of the term, with university students showing a higher interest in appearance, self-care, and modern lifestyles. Riau University, a leading university in Riau Province, is a prime example of this trend, with its students focusing on appearance and fitness as well as a positive self-image. This study aims to determine the activities, motivations, and self-image formation of students through body care and fitness activities using the approaches of Symbolic Interactionism Theory by George Herbert Mead, Hyperreality by Jean Baudrillard, and Lifestyle Theory by Kotler and Keller. The subjects selected in this study were six informants and one triangulator using the purposive sampling technique. This type of research is field research and uses a qualitative approach by Miles and Huberman. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation The results of this study indicate that the media plays an important role in motivating individuals to achieve goals and influencing self-image and self-perception. The media industry, including social and intellectual media, influences self-perception through various factors, such as social status, family, and personal experience. The media aims to create products and services that promote self-perception, helping individuals achieve an idealized self-image. Keywords: Self-Image, Metrosexual, Media.

Abstract

This research was conducted at two newspaper companies located in the city of Pekanbaru, namely Riau Pos and Haluan Riau, to know the existence of printed newspapers in the era of digitalization of media as it is today by reviewing their printed newspaper production activities in today's digital era, as well as looking for know how their distribution methods work so that they can survive in facing the challenges of digitalization of media. To answer the formulation of the problem, qualitative methods are used with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation coupled with a simple survey to strengthen data regarding the existence of printed newspapers in the present. The subjects in this study were two representatives from each newspaper company and three newspaper sellers in the city of Pekanbaru as triangulation subjects. The results of this study note that the circulation of printed newspapers in Pekanbaru City is now greatly reduced because the amount of production has also been greatly reduced, this is because people are more interested in accessing news and seeking information through online media. With the presence and rise of online media, companies experience disruption which then requires them to transform their media production from print to online. To answer this problem, they are innovating to create a new platform for online media so that they can survive and maintain the market. Nevertheless, even though the production and circulation of printed newspapers have now greatly decreased, printed newspapers are still the choice of some people because newspapers are considered to have a higher level of trust than online media which often contains hoax news. Thus, newspaper companies will still be able to survive and exist as long as the community still needs them. Keywords: Newspaper, Digitalitation, Transformation of Technology

Abstract

Javanese people are generally synonymous with carrying out traditions that have been passed down by their ancestors. Likewise the Javanese people in Air Kulim Village who hold Javanese traditions namely To install suroan. Tradition suroan in this area has a unique combination of Javanese tradition with Islam. The local community does this tradition using dhikr and there are mandatory supplies called ratib water, bertih, ingkung, as well as yellow glutinous rice and core. In addition, this tradition is not only done by the Javanese community, but is also followed by the non-Javanese community. This research was carried out in Air Kulim Village, Bathin Solapan District, Bengkalis Regency, which aims to find out how the tradition is carried out suroan as well as to know the meaning of tradition suroan for the people of Air Kulim village. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection using in-depth interview techniques, observation, and documentation. The subjects of this research are two people key informan and five informants who participated in the implementation of the tradition suroan in the village of Air Kulim. The results of this study note that the implementation of the tradition suroan on 1 Muharram at the time after evening prayer by using syadzaliyah dhikr in an open field. Over time there is a shift in the meaning of tradition suroan which developed in people who think that the moon suro is a sacred month, there are many prohibitions and taboos that must be maintained and carrying out a series of traditional Javanese activities has turned into a religious ceremony by conducting dhikr together as a ceremony to welcome the Islamic new year. Hence, meaning suroan in the village community Air Kulim is a joint dhikr activity that is carried out in the open field every year to welcome the Islamic new year. Abstract

Research was conducted in Boncah Mahang Village, Mandau District, Bengkalis Regency. This research aims to determine fish gambling activities and interactions between players and spectators in gambling and fish. The activities and interactions that occur involve players and spectators who have relationships within the group. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. With a total of 6 subjects, they are also involved in carrying out activities and interactions in fish gambling, then they are native people of the village who carry out gambling activities and they are able to define and explain a process of how interactions and gambling activities run based on existing facts. To collect data using observation techniques, in-depth interviews and also documentation. The theories used are labeling theory and also Edwin Sutherland's theory of social deviance. Research in the field found that activities and interactions occur due to internal and external encouragement. What is meant by internal encouragement is encouragement that comes from within oneself and external is encouragement that comes from outside oneself, for example being able to carry out gambling activities or gambling interactions due to temporary access to friends. Internal encouragement is encouragement that originates from oneself, for example one's desire to experience entertainment, curiosity, eliminate feelings of loneliness and the urge from within oneself to get the main prize even though it is not certain. The gambling table, which is precisely located in Boncah Mahang Village, is currently still active, therefore gambling activities and interactions between players and spectators are still ongoing and active today and are still ongoing.
